Kimora Lee Simmons Scientology Cameo

Kimora Lee Simmons--celebrity designer, ex wife of Russell Simmons, and great beauty--is not happy with Scientology.

Yesterday, we had to call her press person and inform her that Kimora is being featured in a new Scientology promotional video. The sect's chief, David Miscavige, can be seen in the video telling followers that Simmons has been distributing the group's "Way to Happiness" propaganda pamphlet in New Jersey and Los Angeles.

The news that Simmons is somehow involved in Scientology comes around the 6-minute mark in the 8-minute video currently posted at YouTube. [Embedded here]

Miscavige, dressed in a tuxedo, seems to be addressing a large crowd in the gauche, ornate Celebrity Center in Hollywood from the same podium on which he gave Tom Cruise an Olympic-looking medal in 2004. He tells the gathering that in order to reach new recruits 12 to 18 years old, they can do better than Simmons, who "funnels booklets" in the aforementioned locales. On the screen behind him, Simmons' face is shown.

Only one problem, though, Simmons' publicist told me yesterday while her client was traveling. "I've asked everyone," said the flack. "Kimora is not a Scientologist. We have nothing to do with this."

Between all the war rhetoric and weird phrasing. I am quite stunned. I'd never seen a 'scientological' lecture before. I did find the anti-psychiatry stuff pretty hysterical, though. I am not a fan of the profession, since it's benefits are so overblown. It's just a tool, and its only as good as the psychiatrist, I guess.

The fact that a cult like Scientology need publicity and $$$ in order to gain wider accetpance made them look for gullible, emotionally unsecured mega stars to propogate their religion.
Some stars are not as intelligent as they are made out to be in the movies, their intellectual level is closer to a moron. Despite being fleeced by their religion, they declare their faith to their new found cult to their fans.

Typical Roger Freedman hype. Anything to take a snipe at Scientology, eh? Of course Kimora Lee Simmons isn't a Scientologist. No one ever said she was. The Way To Happiness in a completely secular program. Scientologists support it. Obviously. But so do Muslims, Christians and Buddhists. It's a moral code, so it makes sense Freedman would find offense, his moral character being what it is.

jbasoon - you are a liar, and probably a Scientologist yourself...

The Way to Happiness booklet contains a set of 21 precepts written by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. This book is frequently given out by Scientologists. A campaign in the early 1990s to distribute the book in United States schools was described in Church of Scientology publications as "the largest dissemination project in Scientology history" and "the bridge between broad society and Scientology."[3] Though it is now used as its own separate foundation, many Scientologists give out the book. The book is currently available in over ninety different languages and is also made available online as an E-book. The trademarks for The Way to Happiness name and symbol are owned by the L. Ron Hubbard Library (a name for the Church of Spiritual Technology). A reprint licensing fee of seven cents per booklet for printing a minimum of 20,000 copies is paid to The Way to Happiness Foundation International.[4]

In 2007, "The Way to Happiness Foundation" produced and distributed pamphlets with sample endorsements from the mayors of Dallas, Texas and San Francisco, California. The mayor of Dallas did not appreciate this unauthorized usage of the mayor's logo and the official seal of the city of Dallas, stating: "Clearly we were not very comfortable and did not think it was appropriate to use the seal of the city of Dallas, the mayor's logo or my name on something we were not aware of."[5] According to a report in The Dallas Morning News, the city attorney's office of Dallas is looking into possible options in this matter.[5]

Similarly, in San Francisco, California, the office of the mayor was also not pleased with this unauthorized usage of the mayor's image, logo, and the seal of the city. According to a report by the Associated Press, the city ordered the Scientology group to stop using an unauthorized picture of Mayor Gavin Newsom on its promotional pamphlets.[6] An official spokesman for the mayor of San Francisco released a statement, saying: "The mayor does not support the unauthorized use of his image or the city seal on this booklet."[7] The city attorney for San Francisco wrote a letter to "The Way to Happiness Foundation", citing California state law, which prohibits deceptive and misleading advertising that could create an appearance that the pamphlets are from a government agency. The city attorney also cited San Francisco law, writing that the Board of Supervisors must approve any commercial use of the city's official seal.[7]

In Winnipeg, Manitoba a box of pamphlets was delivered to the mayor's office with the official City of Winnipeg logo and the image of mayor Sam Katz. No legal action was taken: "This is obviously a sample sent to our office and it was not approved or paid for by our office... If material was being distributed on our behalf with a false endorsement, it would be a different story."[8][9]

These people are fucking crazy - it's as if the lunatics have escaped the asylum and now they're trying to take revenge on their captors. And it's scary. The Third Reich decorating motif should be your first clue. Looks like their production team and art directors watched Triumph of the Will a few times. Again, scary AND dangerous.

This is an incredibly scary group.

I find Miscavige's assertions about psychiatric pharmacology hilarious.

I find HuffPo's posting of this ridiculous though, the timing is extremely suspect since Simmons just endorsed Clinton.

I've had a couple of experiences with COS over the years. First off, back in the mid-80's, a guy my sister knew in San Fran used his supposedly "clear" status to try to convince her that she should sleep with him.

Second, in Time Square, I got metered, for the sheer amusement of it. My gosh, I never realized how messed up I was. I also never realized how many classes I could take, at great expense, to get myself fixed. Every conversation with those folks turned into something regarding cash.

Interesting how Scientologists who were all present for the Nancy Cartwright/Kirstie Alley/Scientology related dialog here at Huffpo, all claiming that this sort of thing doesn't happen, are mysteriously absent when its all out in the open for us to see...

As I said earlier, people who have committed time and money to the effort don't want to think that maybe they have been duped and ripped off and they defend their choice rather than face humiliation. But that is the beauty of the scam, people who are truly in need and truly hurting aren't really capable of hanging with the curves of such a bad decision.

I don't hate Scientologists per se but I feel that Muscavidge and his lieutenants are a menace to society. They are doing great harm and represent a neofascist perspective that is as dangerous as it is offensive.

I particularly find that goal of recruiting 12-18 year olds, minors and some of the most impressionable and vulnerable members of our society to be particularly dispicable. Criminally so. If my child ended up in their clutches I would be all over them like white on rice....

man, I HATE bullies....

MySpace deletes hacked Web site for atheists and agnostics

http://www.cleveland.com/living/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/living-0/1201772086310820.xml&coll=2

It isn't easy being godless online.

For the third time in three years, what may be the largest group of organized atheists in the world is struggling to stay on MySpace, said a Cleveland State University assistant professor who founded the site for nonbelievers.

MySpace deleted the 35,000-member "Atheist and Agnostic Group" on Jan. 1, a little more than a month after hackers broke in and renamed the group's site "Jesus Is Love," Bryan Pesta said Wednesday.

I think it is obvious, she is in the video and was, apparently, put there by the Scientologists to support their org without her permission.

In other words, they used her image to continue frauding their members... business as usual for COS.

Since COC is so viscious in its attacks on anyone attempting to provide information about their group that they don't control, Huffpo is doing a public service by keeping us informed.
Scientology uses the images of entertainers etc to promote its activities and this is the Entertainment section of Huffpo... it all makes sense to me...

I would bet you that if we could contact the other businesses and organizations that David M claims to support their cult we would learn that half or more are being used just like Kim, without their knowledge or permission. Fraud, in other words. Something they are known for.

I'm so proud of Kimora Lee Simmons for putting a quick stop to this awful use of her image!

Watching a small snip of the video, where the speaker talks about targeting impressive people with their message, instead of just passing out books, reminds me a lot of the Oxford Group/MoralRe-Armament/Buchmanism, a "spiritual" organization of the 1st half of the 20th century. They targeted "key people" [i.e. rich, famous & powerful], travelling & living 1st class all they way [suppported financially by their rich recruits], on the excuse that they needed contact with the rich & powerful to recruit more "key people" to financially support & publicize OG/MRA/B, so that eventually, the masses would follow the rich/powerful into OG/MRA/Buchmanism. The statement, "It it's good enough for Cruise & Travolta, it's good enough for me" is another example of this sort of recruiting.

Well, to this nonrich/non powerful/non famous member of the masses, Cruise & Travolta are more like poster children for "Run Away!"
