Hillary: "I Intend To Ask John Edwards To Be A Part Of Anything I Do"

ABC News   |  Eloise Harper   |   February 9, 2008 05:51 PM

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., speaking in Lewiston, Maine, said that she would call on former No. Carolina Sen. John Edwards if she becomes president.

"There is a lot John and I have in common. I will be a fighter, and I intend to ask John Edwards to be a part of anything I do in the White House." Clinton was prompted to speak about Edwards after a woman stood up and sad she was a former supporter of his -- but has not switched allegiances to Clinton. The woman commended Edwards for being a fighter -- and thought Clinton was a fighter, as well.

Clinton mentioned earlier in the speech that Edwards was the only other candidate running who offered a universal health care plan. "I was proud Sen. Edwards and I decided to put ourselves on the line politically," she said.

Edwards has not endorsed any candidate, and it would be a helpful endorsement for Clinton or Obama to have in this tight race. Clinton asked voters in Lewiston to stand up for her tomorrow during the caucuses in Maine.

I have read (but one can read many things) that Elizabeth Edwards favors Obama, but some of his advisers want him to support Clinton. (Assuming that to be true) let's hope his wife (whom I liked better than him, although I wouldn't have minded his becoming president at all) has more influernce with him that those pros. I distrust most political pros.
John, listen to your better half -- and your better angel.

This comment from Macready is why I would not give my vote to Obama should he become the nominee.
The smugness and fanaticism of the Obama supporters, shall not be rewarded. You support the 'Hope and Change' candidate, but continually spew your venom.
You have to 'be the change you wish to see'.

Since Obama is reported to be the "un-named political candidate" in documents that outline the Feds beef with Rezko, compounded by Rezko receiving a payment/loan of 3.5 Mill. from Nadhmi Auchi, a business man who has alleged reported ties to Saddam Hussein Hussein and the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, in which the secured party name on the loan-filing form for the 3.5 Mill payment/loan, that Rezko reportedly received from Nadhmi Auchi, is ... "Fintrade Services", a Panamanian offshore business entity that has *also* reported to have given Obama a financial loan (is this ringing any bells?) in May of 2005, for some kind of reported fund raiser for Obama.

It's a great probability that Edwards knows all of the this stuff pertaining to Rezko,Nadhmi Auchi, Fintrade Services, ... and Obama; I mean, at this point, who doesn't ... it's all over the Internet! The Feds say Obama has done nothing illegal; so be it. But there still is the perception of possible impropriety. And being that Obama may have possibly been completely hypocritical in seemingly pointing his hypocritical finger towards the other Democratic presidential candidates in this '08 election, possibly planting the seed-of-doubt, as a wedge-issue, based on offshore entity legislation that Obama is purported to have co-sponsored, for their seemingly *legal* offshore business dealings, seemingly for Obama's own political gain, ... it just may be very possible that Edwards will *never* endorse Obama; not in this lifetime ... or the next. Of course, we will all just have to wait and see. But at this point? ... I would be most shocked and surprised if Edwards ever endorses Obama.

The funny thing is - Obama is whoop'in up on the Clintons pretty good - yet Hillary's questioning wether Barack could handle McCain.

I think Billary should concern themselves with the fight their LOSING RIGHT NOW, instead of shrilling about how they 'won't get knocked-out' & 'are ready to take on McCain anywhere, anytime".

The Billary campaign is getting its clock cleaned by the junior senator from Illinois.

My advice to them, get up off the ground, pick you teeth up, & get ready for some more a$$ whoop'in from Barack.

Go Obama!!

I hope John Edwards wont endorse either of the corporate whores who, after shooting him down, now want his endorsement and his delegates. I also hope that he hasnt endorsed either hilary or obama because he is considering resuming his own campaign. He did say that he was "suspending" his campaign, not dropping out or quitting. Semantics, folks, semantics.

Does anyone know if his campaign team has disbanded or found other jobs?

Maybe Im a dreamer or delusional but Im not ready to give up on a John Edwards presidency. I will write his name in on my ballot.

Or maybe Al Gore will decide to throw his hat in the ring at a later date.

An Edwards or Gore presidency is the only thing that will get our country out of the disastrous death spiral that it is in. prez fucksupalot can do a whole lot of more damage in his last year in office. (Think war with Iran. Does that give anyone else nightmares??)

Edwards is not going to revive his campaign during the primary season, although he may still be hoping that, if the convention deadlocks, it will turn to him as the comporomise nominee. It's true that he said he was "suspending" rather than ending, his campaign, but all candidates say that, so that they can continue to get federal funds, which enables them to pay down their campaign debt. In poltical palance, "suspended" means "ended."

She is depending on the track record of many men to support her failing experience and run for the "first woman president". If Hillary really wanted to bring change, stability, and opportunity for America's future she'd be smart enough to recognize who the best leader for America really is. Someone who knows what he stands for and has the rare ability to stir people to put their best faces forward - and his name is Obama. The more time she spends in this race, the farther her star is falling. It isn't good for her or those whose loyalty come from old Clinton stalk. They've had their time in the White House and now it needs a renovation.

Boy this article turns my stomach. John Edwards has too much integrity to be on the Clinton team. I really don't believe for one second that Clinton has any intention of giving Edwards a useful role anyway. As usual its all talk with Clinton. She just wants his delegates, his labor support, etc. I was a big Edward's supporter because of his passion and attention to the issues. He has also accomplished so much with the Poverty Center outside of politics. Edwards represented real change. Hilary is all about more of the same. I can't see them working together. However, I can see Obama utilizing Edward's skills in a very positive way.

If Clinton asked Edwards to become AG I don't doubt for a moment he would accept. Edwards would be equally willing to work in an Obama administration. Quite honestly, your efforts to cast Obama as an instrument of change just don't square with the man's background. Both Clinton and Obama are strictly mainstream candidates with DLC support. Besides rhetoric and style, there really isn't much difference policy wise between the two. Edwards isn't going to be swayed by flowery talk of change; I suspect that he won't care one whit which of these two gets the final node and I don;t doubt he'd jump at the chance of working with either.

BTW: I was and remain and Edwards supporter and backed it up with contributions. I met Edwards and heard him speak.

You are very lucky that you got to meet Edwards and hear him speak in person. Unfortunately, I never had that great pleasure!

Hey, Roger, are you from New Hampshire?
I, too, got to hear John Edwards in person and came away feeling I knew what he stood for and how he would make needed changes in this government of ours. He was so passionate about his desire to make the world a better place that I felt I could believe what he said, and I'm fairly cynical.
I also donated to his campaign after that and now wish I'd done more. I think whatever he decides to do in future, it will in some way involve public service.
I wish all the best for him and his family!

Hm, I can't see right through this, wow.

Seriously, there is no way in hell Edwards will endorse Hillary. The vast majority of his supporters have gone to Obama, his union endorsements have gone to Obama, his superdelegates are going to Obama, and Obama is the candidate of change, Edwards' entire campaign was about change vs status quo, and he identified Hillary as the status quo. Of course he won't endorse Hillary, quit pandering you pathetic politician.

On that note, Edwards better endorse Obama, for all of the reasons above. If Edwards was truly serious about change vs status quo and about a new America then he has to endorse Obama, he can't sit this one out, the time is now, and if Edwards stays out of it he is pretty much being a sellout. I still believe in him though, I think he will, it is just a matter of when. I'm thinking after Obama wins the rest of the February elections...then he can throw his support behind him.

Cambio, you are absolutely right. Edwards must endorse Obama NOW!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:50 PM on 02/10/2008

The problem with your logic is that you actually believe Obama is the candidate of change. Remember, this is the same junior Senator who sought out Joe Lieberman as his mentor, who conservative magazines and pundits across America and Europe have been saying they can work with, and who has nearly as many former Clinton staff as advisors as the Clintons. Why is that?

Maybe that's why Edwards isn't supporting either of them and why many of his supporters would rather walk than vote for any of these frauds.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:34 PM on 02/10/2008

cambio, I think you're being too critical of Mr. Edwards without thinking it through. If you recall, the most important issue to him was to remember the people who couldn't speak for themselves, the poor, the ill,the disenfranchised, etc.
If Senator Clinton receives the party nomination and offers him a way to achieve his goals through joining with her, would you really call him a sellout?
If I learned one thing when I studied political history, it was that, in the 1960 Democratic campaign, Johnson and Kennedy despised each other and each did his best to gain the nomination however possible. When Kennedy won and asked Johnson to be on the ticket, it was because he thought Johnson could carry the Southern states, not because he thought Johnson was a friend. They were able to put aside partisan differences and create a winning ticket.

I hope he tells the press, the DNC and campaigns vying for hs endorsement to shove it. Where the hell were they all when he was RUNNING? He's a private citizen now and his vote is between him and Diebold.
But don't mind me, I'm just bitter. I liked Biden and Edwards. I don't like parties or the press shoving candidates down my throat.
I wonder how many voters out there are now voting AGAINST the press and conventional wisdom, rather than for Hillary or Obama (or Huckabee/McCain). I wonder if THAT's the swing vote. Maybe that's why the polls are always wrong this year.

More pandering by Hillary. Edwards may not endorse either candidate, but for Hillary to evoke his name in an effort to win votes is pure Hillary. The I'll-do-and-say-anything-to-win strategy is in fifth gear now. I HOPE Edwards comes out for Obama, and shuts down the shameless Clintons!

Why should Edwards endorse Obama? Kerry suported Obama and not his running mate Edwards. Edwards should stay out or go for Hillary and look to become Attorney General.

It would make sense. She knows the legislative process so she really doesn't need someone in the VP slot that can push legislation (like Obama needs someone). Edwards the view of the common man and also has a loud enough voice that he isn't going to let Bill run over the top of him.

I think it makes a better ticket than Obama/Edwards or Clinton/Obama.

AnninCA, she sure as hell won't be considering another WOMAN! Clinton has proved over and again that SHE CAN'T DO IT ALONE. Bill has proved that he doesn't think she can do it alone. She is a feminist the way the moron in the WH is a uniter.

Wake up ladies. This election is not about you. It is all about HRC. So go with a candidate who hasn't disappointed us YET!

I don’t know if the media is giving candidates like Clinton & Huckabee a fair game. They are pushing Obama no matter what and assuming McCain is the sole republican running. Overall I do enjoy the WP editorials.
Also, check out the articles “Red States’ and ‘Latino States” http://savagepolitics.com/?p=78 and “The Numbers Game” http://savagepolitics.com/?p=84 on www.savagepolitics.com. It offers a refreshing/brilliant analysis on voters, what the polls really mean, etc… I haven’t seen this type of analysis in a long time. It was about time someone unbiased analyzed the current presidential race!!!!!!!!!!

Hucka-who? Come on, you can't really consider Huckabee a serious contender for the Presidency. The fact that he has gotten so far just points out how thin the Republicans are for a candidate. After all, Bush and Cheney destroyed Powell, the one person that might have guaranteed them a win in 2008.

What is the saying, ... "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Hillary has nothing in common with Edwards. She wants him NOT to endorse Obama, ... and so wants to keep him close.

Love those who claim Edwards is a demagogue. Against whom? What? Corporations. ... Oh, shed a tear! Enron, KBR, WalMart, Halliburton? Tough times and they jump ship, ... head to Dubai, or cust their payrolls to save their sorry asses.

Give us all a break here! Feel badly for your broker, if you choose, ... but Edwards has always chosen people over property in his politics. A demagogue is someone, say, who drives the long way to work, so he can pretend there are no vets living under bridges!
