Scarlett Johansson And Natalie Portman On Monogamy And The Elections

Scarlett Johansson And Natalie Portman star as sisters vying for the affection of King Henry VIII in the upcoming "The Other Boleyn Girl". The pair posed and sat for an interview with W magazine.

On monogamy:

Natalie:

"I'm into monogamy. But I'm not really into marriage right now. I sort of hate the legal aspect of it. What does the state have to do with it? Why are they making rules that say my lover can stay in the United States if they're foreign or share my health care benefits because I'm straight -- but if you're gay, you can't have that?"

Scarlett:

"I've been battered for saying that I don't believe humans are monogamous by nature. The response was, like, 'What a ho-bag!' I didn't mean that I don't practice monogamy in my own life -- of course I do! I'm not going to be in some tarty relationship... I remember another time. I said I get tested for AIDS twice a year, and again that got spun as me being promiscuous. But I was single at the time, and I think it's important to do that!"

On trying to stay out of the limelight:

Natalie:

"I don't want people to have a juicy read about me. I've been trying to watch more TV [in an effort to better] converse with people. People talk about TV way more than you think... I get branded a lot as a good girl. I'm, like, the prude,

Scarlett:

"You're never going to find me at the Ivy. I don't care how good the Cobb salad is. These tabloid magazines -- I think they're hideous and the downfall of society," she said, referring to a recent Us Weekly story accusing her of having had a nose job. "It was as ridiculous as if they'd showed side-by-side pictures of me at 11 and 20 and saying, 'Look, she grew breasts!'"

On who they're voting for:

Scarlett:

"I will continue stumping for [Barack] Obama until he's elected. The past eight years have been painful for a lot of people. We're in a state of emergency."

Natalie:

"I met with about 10 representatives... and Hillary [Clinton] was by far the sharpest. Did you read Gloria Steinem's op-ed piece?" Natalie asks, citing Steinem's January 8 column about the presidential hopeful in the New York Times. "Hillary's just so experienced."

W is on newsstands nationwide on February 26.

I'm presuming that not too many of us bothered to watch the video. It was excrutiating. Another two minutes and they'd have stripped down naked and....well....'nuff said.

"We're in a state of emergency" ??!! Wow. What part of the vocabulary has this actress reserved for, say, living during the Great Depression. Or living in Kenya? or being a Jew in Germany in 1938. What a spoiled, ignorant brat.

Um, those are examples of the status AFTER a state of emergency had gone unheeded, or efforts to avoid the looming catastrophic results had failed. Bush co. has us, average citizens, on the precipice on so many fronts. But you won't admit it till when, the dollar collapses and the economy is in ruins? Till all the world fears our next preemptive war and takes a more openly defensive posture against us? Maybe you want to live under Marshall law?

Maybe she's just more in touch with reality than you are. Perhaps if more people had realized that Germany was in a "state of emergency" in the 1930's, there'd have been no WWII and no holocaust.

I wrote an article about how smart Natalie Portman is, so I give her a lot of credit. She was an assistant to Robert Shapiro, in fact.

That said, Hillary Clinton's "experience" clarion call is getting old. I'm tired of people just accepting that our candidates are dirty and judging them on how old they are.

Do we really care what who celebrities are voting for?

Not to be mean or anything but Scarlet doesn't have much education and although Natalie went to Harvard she also wrote an article in a fashion magazine comparing her life being chases by paps to blacks dealing with racism. It was completely crazy and offensive - so many people complained to the magazine that she had to write an apology.

The point is these are actresses - I don't care who they vote for or support.

Of course I said "not to be mean or anything" and then proceeded to be really mean and insult someone for their lack of education. I'm just in a bad mood today - an education doesn't make anyone smarter then other people.

I agree with you about education and smartness. In truth, real education shouldn't purport to promote smartness (since it doesn't necessarily do that). The degree that education develops a persona's intelligence (smartness) rather depends on what they study, their level of commitment, and natural ability. A person can have a PhD in physics and an IQ of 180 but be unable to write a coherent letter of self expression. Smartness; that is, to have or show quick intelligence or ready mental capability, comes from many causes including genes, life experience. and education with the importance of each largely dependent on the individual. I will say that most people with a well rounded education and who were interested in learning not just testing well, tend to be smarter than those who neglected their education and who are flaky. These observations represent trends however, and there are always people who defy categorization.

I knew I liked Scarlet.... not only beautiful, but smart.

Don't worry Scarlet.... I don't believe any of the tabloid crap about you... your acting has impressed me not nearly as much as your work for a good cause.

Neither of them is very interesting. And stop censuring me Huffington Post or I'll post this everywhere! Ari Emanuel is a really pompous, arrogant person who can insult anyone he wants but we can't insult him. What a wimp!

I'm going to post it and you can't stop me.

"This is off-topic and probably rude but I can't stand it when rich white men use the word "bro" as if they're straight out of the hood.

"Can you get my private jet ready bro?"

"Let's go to the Ivy and check out the ladies bro!"

"Has there been another hurricane in New Orleans bro?My buddy larry needs some new material for his show!"

Yo, she met with 10 representatives. Did some research, came to a conclusion. Hillary-haters have blind faith in her hatefulness. I believe Hillary is definitely the sharpest and most intelligent of all the candidates, which in this dumbed-down day and age, should count for something. Sadly, I'm not sure she's as electable as Barama, who I do like- he's got the momentum and I hope he'll mature quickly on the job. McCain is no "maverick," and Huckleberry and all the others make Reagan, the Second-worst president in history- look like a "liberal."

No typos- I don't think...

I think her conclusion about Hillary may be a bit coloured by her own political background. Natalie is from Israel, and Hillary was pro-Iraq war, whereas Obama doesn't look like he'd be very willing to put America's military out to protect Israel's interests.

You, Natalie, Hillary is experienced...being the wife of someone famous.

What a wonderful role model for American Women: a woman whose adult life has been defined by who she was married to.

Geez, tkondaks is right and if you all would stop putting Hilary on a pedestal you would realize it. She was the wife of a governor, wife of the president, became a senator because she was the wife of the ex-president. None of her positions in public service have been earned. She got to skip to the front of the line thanks to BIll. It is an INSULT to every other elected senator especially FEMALE senators to put Hilary in there league. Why don't we just put Mrs.Gates on the cover of Forbes while we are at it. Nancy Pelosi is 20 times the woman and 20 times as DESERVING. Not to mention being in line for the presidency already by her own merit (behind Cheney in presidential succession.) HILARY IS A JOKE in comparison and you should want a woman that didnt NEED a man to achieve!

As much as I dislike Hillary, which is a lot, everything I've read depicts her as a competent senator. However, both she and Pelosi are on the wrong side of the angels and history, and should be treated that way.

You're right whitewitch, if Hillary would not have married to Bill, she'd be a thunder-thighed, second-rate lawyer, working in a third-tier Chicago law firm reading about how an inspiring and shrewd Black man was about to be elected President of the Unired States.

An Bill would be in his double wide, Mayor of Hot Springs with a passel of wimmins after him for child-support.
