Chris Matthews: "I Felt This Thrill Going Up My Leg" As Obama Spoke

Huffington Post   |   February 13, 2008 11:53 AM

Last night during MSNBC's Potomac Primary coverage, Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann were discussing Barack Obama's speech. Matthews — who, in the past, has both cried over an Obama speech and compared him to Jesus — described exactly what happens to him when Obama speaks:

I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often.

Watch:

Later during MSNBC's coverage, resident anchorman/funnyman Brian Williams made fun of Matthews, saying, "let's talk about that feeling Chris gets up his leg when Obama talks." Watch:

Cheap shot, Mr. Williams!

You"re the creepy one. There is nothing sexual about an honest, objective remark about the skill of a great orator.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:59 PM on 02/16/2008

more than we wanted to know, Chris.... you are a sick little monkey.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:25 AM on 02/16/2008

How high up his leg did it go?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:06 PM on 02/15/2008

Sick man he is..

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:04 PM on 02/15/2008

hey chris,
is that like a warm fuzzy?
olberman didn't know how to respond to that.
how much longer do we have to listen to this
guy?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:38 AM on 02/15/2008

Chris Matthews is getting more and more creepy. He has always hated the Clintons since he didn't get the job in the Clinton White House. He is a lot like Dick Morris.

I find it amazing that he is given the power to manipulate MSNBC for personal vendetta. Reminds me of Bush and his vendetta against Iraq. The truth never matters. It is all about getting even.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:31 AM on 02/15/2008

Aah! This is what its all about?? Thanks for enlightening us because I really believed that Matthew's consumption with hatred for Sen. Clinton was about to bring out the serial killer in him.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:43 PM on 02/15/2008

It probably was just Bill O crawling up your leg to see if you where a conservative or a Democrat - he was checking to see if you have a set - he probably had his removed in the phone sex settlement so he won't bother anyone again!!!!!!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:14 AM on 02/15/2008

Quiet Chris. You had a similar crush on Fred Thompson. Hush now.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:05 PM on 02/14/2008

he needs some self control.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:51 PM on 02/14/2008

I agree, but who among us will send over the dominatrix to twist his balls.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:45 PM on 02/15/2008

the other leg is reserved for Bush

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:54 PM on 02/14/2008

When any commentators have to fill a 3 or 4 hour bloc of time while waiting for election returns, we ought to cut them a little slack when they say something silly.

It may have just been that his garters are too tight!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:01 AM on 02/14/2008

Something silly is one thing...but Chrissy has been a suck up to Obama for some time. Is anyone surprised that he gets a thrill from the O? Chrissy and MSNBC have been giving the O a free ride and tons of positive comments all day long--and still, Senator Clinton is only slightly behind. Contrary to what Chrissy says, perhaps the public doesn't hate her, they must LOVE her? How else to explain the Big MAC (Media Against Clinton) Attacks, having so little affect on Senator Clinton's total delegate count? BTW, in Michigan, Dodd, Clinton, others had their names on the ballot. Obama was too dumb to have his name on the ballot. BUT, Sen Clinton got more votes than Uncommitted AND all the other candidates. Count the votes.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:52 PM on 02/14/2008

or that it was the gerbil heading straight for his asshole!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:29 PM on 02/14/2008

I am not an artist, but I think this would make a great cartoon for the NEW YORK POST. Envision Matthews sitting in his underwear while watching Obama with this orgasmic look on his face while a gerbil is approaching his rear end.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:58 PM on 02/14/2008

C'mon after a statement like that, he's fortunate to only have 138 posts to this point. But then again, he with his position on MSNBC he does have a leg up on us!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:32 PM on 02/14/2008

Yea, I know what Chris is talking about. Listening to Obama is like wetting your pants, it feels nice and warm while it's happening but afterwards your just wet and cold. Obama all form and no substance - Chris Matthews is obviously easly sold on form and seldom recognizes substance.

I've started watching CNN more and more often when I want objective reporting. MSNBC is no longer a creditable news source.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:52 AM on 02/14/2008

My question is, When was MSNBC ever credible? And correct me if I am wrong but Russert started getting chopped up when he "picked" on Clinton by asking her about issuing driver's license privileges to illegal aliens in the state of NY. That is not an unfair question and should be asked of all the candidates. The last Obama-Clinton debate was just a dreadful "political ass kissing symposium." The constituency deserves an honest "debate" on issues. Clinton INC. excoriated Russert for "picking" on Hillary. Why is it that anytime they (CLintons) are questioned by anyone in the media....it always.....prejudice? If I were on the left I would be doing athletic speed to get into the Obama camp. I don't like the guys positions on almost everything but if nothing else he has mobilized the youth of America to get involved. Who would want four more years of the Clinton soap opera? Or is that just it? We love soap operas?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:55 AM on 02/14/2008

Golly, Timid Russert throws Obaama the softball and then jumps on Clinton every chance he gets. Nothing wrong with a question, but it is obvious Sen. Clinton gets undeserved NEGATIVE slurs from the Big MAC--the MEDIA AGAINST CLINTON!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:46 PM on 02/14/2008

I can't stomach watching Chris Mathews, even when he's paired with my Fav Keith O, so I stick to CNN's coverage, but appreciate Huffpo posting this gem. Gawd, Mathews is a baffoon.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:20 AM on 02/14/2008

Seriously though, when did Chris Matthews go from being the darling(minion) of the left to all this? Please enlighten me and I don't want to hear, "He's always been like this." And the proof here is the posts here about people leaving MSNBC. In my book those of you who are just now getting it are at least 5 yrs behind. I just listen to MSNBC to see how outrageous commentators can get with immunity, unless your speaking about the Clintons that is. Olberman got fired from ESPN, what does that tell you?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:34 AM on 02/14/2008

Chris seems to get feelings inside his trousers quite often, where certain men are concerned.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:07 AM on 02/14/2008

They should be. Would someone please do an expose on this creature and finally put a nail in his coffin.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:00 PM on 02/14/2008

Poor Chris. No, it wasn't a good line. It was pathetic, embarrassing, and I am sure Brian Williams--and even Keith--cringed.

Chris Matthews has gone over the edge. In his earlier apology, he said "I get it--okay?"

He doesn't get it. He thinks that while he and Keith anchor the primary results, that we the voting public do not deserve our journalists to check their personal biases at the door in an attempt to try to cover the event objectively and fair.

Is MSNBC just going to ruin their network? Do they not realize how many people they are turning off by their blantant biased coverage?

A thrill up his leg? A good line? Is he crazy?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:47 AM on 02/14/2008

..crazy?? You just now figured that out??

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:01 PM on 02/14/2008

You don't get my age without figuring out that the reason men act all macho and sexist like Chris Matthews does is because other men secretly cause them to get these kinds of thrills running up their legs.

Guess he is now officially out of the closet!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:54 AM on 02/14/2008

Like I said, a gerbil fan.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:01 PM on 02/14/2008

He probably watches football for the team uniforms too.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:02 PM on 02/14/2008

Matthews really needs to tone down the "I cried" nonsense. I don't mean to sound sexist but that is what you expect women to say.

I have never cried and I am sure many Obama supporters never cried so I think it does not make sense for him to bring it up.

Before we know it, a good speech would be measured by whether one cries or not.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:08 PM on 02/13/2008

Chris Matthews is an old, irrelevant man with tremendous personality faults. He is arrogrant and thinks his opinion is the only correct one on earth because he is so morally and superiorly smart.

Chris grossly misunderstands his job, and is irresponsible and negligent in his conduct. He does not understand that he is a reporter and his job is to report news, not create it, not opine on it, not distort it to his agenda, and not selectively cover it to favor one thing or another. He seriously thinks HE makes the news.

Chris is so morally empty and a soulfully lost human being, who has infatuations with others because he wants to live vicariously through them. He is repressed, yet also infatuated with himself. To be honest, I think he's really losing it in his head.

The real issue here, though, is not this one loser Chris, but his producers and GE parent company who know what's going on and encourage it. Jeffrey Immelt encourages biased reporting - it's his d*ck slap to Rupert Murdoch for being so conservative with Fox. His thought is "if he wants conservative, I'll show him super liberal" ... and in reality all this big swinging d*ck stuff ruins the reputation of NBC news, taints the brand, and makes them look incredibly shameless.

I am really surprised that more people in this country do not use their wallet and pocket book to make their point. This MSN behavior has been going on for a while, yet people still turn on the channel (thereby giving them ratings), still buy GE products, etc.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:20 AM on 02/14/2008

I don't have a problem with MSNBC. The only thing I would take from your post is that Chris is not supposed to create news but to report it which is fair enough.

The using the wallet thing just would not fly. I think that Tucker needs to check his tone with regards to Sen. Clinton. While what he said is factual or represents a popular sentiment at times, his way of saying it makes it look pretty bad.

Anyways, we do agree Chris needs to not make news with regards to Obama speeches. The rest we don't. MSNBC is good and I like the fact that they are going to be a counter balance to FOX. CNN and BBC are the gold standards but MSNBC is not far behind. Fox?...

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 AM on 02/14/2008

Good speakers are interesting. That doesn't mean they should be Pres. George Wallace was a far better speaker than George McGovern. Obama is a good speaker and should be elected to be on the homecoming court. Chris has been a misogynist for years.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:59 PM on 02/14/2008

You have got to be out of your mind. Obama is not only talk. What position on issues does McCain or Clinton have that Obama doesn't have?

Calling Chris a misogynist is like saying 1X1 is 2.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:09 AM on 02/15/2008

I've stopped watching MSNBC. And I don't think I'm the only one. Their coverage is completely one-sided and immature. Buchanan and Joan Walsh, from Salon, are the most substantive intellingent analysts they have on there.

It's pitiful.

Chris has been pretty rude and overly opinionated for some time but he seems to have jumped the shark this year.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:58 AM on 02/14/2008

I really like Rachael too!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:37 AM on 02/14/2008

Chris Matthews was a speaker in Cupertino California early in November. He really was much more impressive in that venue - compared to his style of interrupting and being loud. I really like him more after seeing him in person. The last comment he made that evening in November depressed me though (because I am an older white female who supports Obama). Chris made it sound as if Hillary was the inevitable Democratic Nominee!! I wish he would come back to the Speakers Series next fall - when, hopefully, Obama is our Nominee and wins the Presidency. I think Chris is surprised that he is impressed with Obama.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:27 PM on 02/13/2008

Oh, he is impressed alright. Matthews saved Obama millions on advertising with his positive campaigns for him every night. He and MSNBC used their network to favor one candidate and used it to their full potential. Now that is depressing.

As far as you being and an "Older White Female" supporting Obama, that too is depressing.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:04 PM on 02/13/2008

A good point. Usually "Older White Females" are beyond the "up your leg" thing and into more substance--it is depressing.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:01 PM on 02/14/2008

Funny, I feel all icky inside when I see Bill try to touch Hillary. Like, you KNOW that's some sex with recrimination. Or, maybe, you know, just recrimination...
