Airbus said Thursday it was holding talks with a number of customers interested in converting its superjumbo A380 -- the world's biggest passenger plane -- into a flying casino.

"We have had interests from customers who would like to do something like (casinos)," said David Velupillai, marketing director for Airbus's executive and private aviation division.

"We had discussions with several customers about it," he told AFP.

Now there's something I've always been waiting for, what with all the extra cash I have after purchasing an airline ticket.

don't fret, Gary, your rebate check is in the mail. I mean, thank goodness, we don't have bills to pay with all that extra coin

Good. Book lots of junkets for rich CEO's, congressional delegations, and other notoriously greedy demographics.

Hope the planes don't crash.

The next step would be euthanasia flights for failing seniors (I'm getting there kicking and screaming) They could have Russian Roulette, Parachute-less skydiving, Spin the arsenic bottle and dive into the jet engine events, with points scored for style and a national record keeping system so people wouldn't exit sans glory.
I agree with the earlier poster...so glad to be out of international business. Flying is a DRAG and no amount of $izzle could lure me back to buckle up low and tight again.

Speaking as someone who's had to travel back and forth across the atlantic several times, I'd just like to add, 'nice little racket'.
A transportation monopoly exists when we puny hu-mans cannot travel freely from one point to another without using your cattle-cars. Keep people in little holding pens until they get bored enough to buy something, then put them on people tubes, and then sell them 'duty-free' goods, nothing to declare? Well, I've got something to declare, I'm damn glad I'm done with my overseas job, and I won't set foot on another airplane so long as I may live, at least not of my own volition. No vacations in Cabo San Larceny for me...fly the friendly skies? Getting taken for a ride is more like it...I hope their airplane fuel costs leventy-zillion dollars an ounce, maybe they can take the planes and just park em somewhere and 'go condo'...and I don't know if you've seen that new airplane, but I sure as blank wouldn't want it flying over MY house...aluminum overcast, there...but, the industry will do what they'll do, and the scamsters will continue to run their sucker games and fleece the tourists...it's tourist season, did you get YOUR permit? Hmmm...

I'm convinced that a plane full of poker tables would be not only a consistently full flight, but an enjoyable one as well. If you don't approve of the idea, then enjoy your little bag of peanuts on Southwest.

Of course, this will never happen in the USA where neanderthal legislators recently voted to ban online gambling. Odd that the rest of the world is become more free and liberal in economical and social policy, while the religious nuts in this country push through laws that invade our privacy.

Emissions from aircraft now vastly exceed that from automobiles.

It's time America put high speed rail across this nation.

Regardless of what China does or won't do.

I could not agree with you more. The fact that we let a once mighty rail system go to hell and back, is a disgrace. We should have used some of that money bush has wasted in Iraq, and rebuilt our system and added high speed. I would NEVER set foot on an airplane again if I could do that.

I'm thinkin' this would work better on sighteeing excursions on the proposed luxury derigibles that are expected to be operational in a few more years...but in the mean time, I don't have any problems with it. And if I did, I don't think I'd want the FAA or anyother governmental agency attempting to legislate morality for me or my neighbor.

Pretty good idea. The obvious application for the aircraft is for casinos when flying their Asian customers to Las Vegas. Gives 'em something to do during the flight.

I'm sure any casino-fitted aircraft would be privately owned and only used for a select clientele.

Excellent idea. In case someone flying to vegas has a change of heart about betting his/her life savings away.

Airbus has to do something to get business. After spending 15 years in the aircraft industry, I read exactly what went into the design of their latest and greatest aircraft. Anyone who buys a ticket couldn't be taking a bigger gamble......Have you ever heard the hideous rattle of the Airbus 320 during landing and reverse thrust? Unbelievable!

I've flown both Boeing (B-52, KC-135, 727) and Airbus (300, 310). I don't think one's particularly better than the other.

We like to say "the French are very proud of their landing gear". You can pretty much smash an A300 onto the runway and not hurt anything. Do the same with a DC-10 or MD-11 and you're likely to break something important.

Commercial aviation's falling on hard times, just like the rest of the Con Game...chicken soup? "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard our Cessna 172, flight 002 to the next airport down the freeway..." Soup IS good food!

Great, an airborne casino where cretins can toss away their wealth while spewing forth combusted kerosene. I'm placing an order for a mega laser pointer, the kind that can pop balloons at 3 miles.

What a way to go. Circle that filth-spewing jet around lil ole me down on the ground, though, and I'll buy me a laser pointer to warm your butts.
