Colbert Welcomes Back Writers

With the vote to end the strike made official on Tuesday, writers returned to work yesterday — and while scripted TV shows will come back at varying points (see here), "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" both returned to their pre-strike states last night.

To celebrate, Colbert marched his writers in one by one and announced them all by name — with special guests Tiki Barber, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judy Miller, and Kevin Bacon. Watch:

For his part, Stewart marveled over the "words in the prompter, script on my desk, the vending machine upstairs out of Funyuns — the writers are back!"

Well, it's true Judy Miller is a vomiting phoney and Willy krystol is one depraved bee-yotch.... but, yeah, put 'em out there where we can identify what Traitors really look like.

Viva La revolucion !

Mr. Met was the cherry on top of this hilarious bit.

Judy Miller...fake news.....freaking brilliant!!!

Judith Miller? Huh? Waterboard me and call me silly, but I don't get it. Was she out on furlough?
06:22 PM on 02/14/2008
I think the answer to "why Judith Miller" is simply that she was the most random person they could get to come on the show - kind of like Henry Kissenger during the whole Guitarmageddon thing.

Great! Now maybe I'll watch them again - if I remember. I've gotten rather used to doing other things at 11 PM Eastern. I'm glad they're back, and I supported the strike, but - truth be known - I found out that not watching Stewart and Colbert on TV wasn't the end of the world after all.

They were doing really well during the Strike. I started watching again in Jan and Feb and I thought they were often funnier. I think Stewart needed the writers a little more because he doesn't have a character persona to play with but they both did awesome.

So Comedy Central is now part of the neocon propaganda machine - with Bill Kristol on the Daily Show and Judy Miller on Colbert. Sad that they want to make those two acceptable to the general public after their part in the Iraq fiasco.

argeec, you are an idiot. What is wrong with hearing from opposing viewpoints?? Let's leave the totally one sided pieces to Fox. A little tolerance never killed anyone.

While Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert lean to the left, they have ALWAYS made fun of both sides. And have had Guest's from both sides of the political spectrum. Hell, AriannaYpu are on her website) was representing the right side when she performed Strange Bedfellows with Al Franken for Clinton/Dole Election. It's been so long with G-dubya but Stewart makes fun of all political stupidity from both sides.

When I saw Judith Miller walk on, I thought, "Oh, THAT's where Colbert gets all his ridiculous right-wing spin from."

If it wasn't for the right wing to satirize, the Colbert Report would not exist. One must always be thankful for one's opposites. Without them, how would we know what we are?

I enjoyed the bit on tv last night, but I really have to wonder why Judy Miller was included. She's hardly recognizable enough for her to have been there as a "celebrity," and her abominable "journalistic" career is hardly something to be celbrated, so what was the deal?

She may have already committed. There were many desrirable guests who would not cross the picket lines. She would.

And how does she qualify as a "desirable guest"?

Because her writing is a joke?

are you canadian? I have the same problem with them, turn out there is a licensing issue, only CTV can show them. Go to CTV and search for daily show and click watch live. Its not as nicely layed out as comedy central but you can watch the shows.

Its true they dont. You can watch all the episodes , including last nights at ifilm.com though!

Thank you Stephen for having at least one Hollywood guest that didn't speak on your show...(Kevin Bacon)...now if the other shows on tv could just follow suit...maybe Bill Mahar?

Keep the great guests showing up...The Colbert Show is the best!

that won't work if your problem is you're in Canada, they scan your ip and don't show it, see my post above.

I'm thrilled that the writers are back, but how does Colbert let that traitor, Judy Miller on?

I noticed the applause got a little lighter when she came out

Well, Colbert IN CHARACTER, would be a Judy Miller apologist, right? The joke is still on Miller.

good point. She's truthiness personified. She reports from her GUT, not with facts. Facts have a liberal bias.
04:07 PM on 02/14/2008
exactly, if she doesn't understand what it means for her to be on the show thats her problem.

While I enjoyed both shows without writers as both Jon And Stephen did their own versions of standup comedy while sitting down and still had the visitors to sell the books etc, I enjoy the fun that comes with the feeling of less stress on the guys. They are both very talented as it has shown with both having their own shows but the variety that comes from the writers has been the forte of both shows with their ability to shock and change directions on the shows in progress which appeals to me. Welcome back writers!!
