Clinton Earmarks Land Her In Top Ten In Senate

Senator Claire McCaskill (D) Missouri, elected for the first time to the United States Senate in November 2006, explained why she was supporting Senator Barack Obama to be President of the United States. She is the only one of the 16 female Senators who now is.

This is one of the new breed of Democrats we sent to Congress in 2006 to end the Iraq War. The war has not ended and this is what we got instead. Are your kids holding their breath unless you vote for Barack Obama? Are we making the right choice now?

an article from today's Hill that reveals "Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) has secured more earmarks in the fiscal 2008 defense authorization bill than any other Democrat except for panel Chairman Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.)." The article goes on to explain the bill has $5.4 billion in earmarks, 26 of which were requested by Clinton, to the tune of $148.4 million in federal spending. (To be fair, most of the earmarks requested by Clinton were also requested by the senior senator from New York, Chuck Schumer.) According to Taxpayers for Common Sense, Clinton secured 360 earmarks in the four years between 2002 and 2006, worth a combined $2.2 billion.

Contrast all that with Barack Obama, who has only one earmark request in the defense bill. It's a request made by several senators on behalf of a Department of Education program for children with severe disabilities.

Days after a Senate committee approved $1 million for a Woodstock concert museum, the project's Republican billionaire backer and his family contributed $29,200 to help the Democrats who requested the money, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer.

Faculty and administrators at the New School, a university in New York - which received more than $2.9 million in earmarks with Clinton's name on them - gave a total of $5,100 to her campaign last year. New School President Bob Kerry is a vocal Clinton supporter.

WASHINGTON - Senators Clinton and Schumer are asking the Pentagon to spend $123 million of its wartime budget for New York projects that the Department of Defense didn't ask for - but that in many cases are linked to the senators' campaign contributors.

It's a real estate developer's sugar-plum dream: a mega-shopping mall complete with 10 Broadway-style theaters, an indoor river, a Tuscan village and a 39-story luxury hotel sheathed in green solar panels shaped like giant blades of grass. Plus as much as $1 billion in government-backed financing, thanks in part to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton....

...Since taking office in 2001, Clinton has delivered $500 million worth of earmarks that have specifically benefited 59 corporations. About 64% of those corporations provided funds to her campaigns through donations made by employees, executives, board members or lobbyists, a review by the Los Angeles Times shows.

This should be no surprise to anyone. The HILL does just like her spouse. She dishes out the favors and expects to collect in return. She earmarks for special interest items then she receives donations to her campaign. The federal earmarked money going to her projects then she received a donation from the project she earmarked funds for; is that legal? I guess must be because both sides of the aisle (GOP and DEM)do this too. I believe she has over 600 earmarks for her special intrest favorites. I would like to have someone running that really wants to do things for the country and its people and not for their personal gain. I guess that is my Easter Bunny wish as it will happen when the Easter Bunny brings colored eggs. NOT

I'll be relieved when the Team Clinton juggernaut finally careens into the ditch.

But it must be noted that HuffPo goes to great lengths to post the worst possible photos of Hillary. I know it's not a coincidence, since she's not the only one that keeps popping up with weird and goofy expressions in photos here.

Not all earmarks are created equal. It depends what the money is used for. Not every earmark is a "Bridge to Nowhere."

In the Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics category,
since state level taxpayer money is primarily a function of how many taxpayers there are, a better statistic would be earmark dollars per state resident. Since NY doesn't have 4 times as many voters as Illinois, I'm sure Hillary would still have more earmarks than Barack, but the difference (and the Top 10 status) would surely be lessened and perhaps not worthy of a news story.

It wouldn't surprise me if this sort of calculation landed Ted Stevens of Alaska in the #1 slot (given the small population and Steven's longevity in the Senate).

Something tells me that if she is elected the Clinton money truck will not be stopping in states that no longer "matter".

Props to the HuffPo for reporting this. All this from the candidate who is going to shut down Exxon right? 340 Million and she has the unmitigated gall to criticize spending. This is an outrage. I must add this is an outrage that happens on both sides of the aisle. And guess where Mouth Mertha ranks on that same list?
