Kirstie Alley Distanced From Jenny Craig

Huffington Post   |   February 15, 2008 04:21 PM

After 3 years as Jenny Craig spokesmodel, Kirstie Alley is stepping aside.

From People.com today:

"Although Kirstie will not appear in future advertising endeavors for us, she does remain on Jenny Craig's maintenance program and is confident that our program has helped her incorporate positive lifestyle changes that should last a lifetime," Scott Parker, vice-president of marketing for Jenny Craig, tells PEOPLE.

"Now that Kirstie has 'passed her maintenance baton' to Valerie [Bertinelli,]" adds Parker, referring to the inclusion of the former One Day at a Time star to the ad campaign beginning last August, "you'll see a new campaign with a new celebrity client emerge, in 2008 ... one that promotes health with Queen Latifah."

The National Enquirer that came out earlier this week has a different take, screaming that Kirstie was fired for being "too fat."

I thought from the beginning she would not have a successful exerience with Jenny. Why did they lie so outrageously about her starting weight?

The said she weighed 203 pounds and is something like 5'9". BS! The reality was probably more like 302 pounds.

Using my own frame as a reference. When I started Jenny, I was 201 pounds and 5'7". I didn't look *nearly* as porky as she did. The program worked like a charm for me and I ended at 145.

Congrats on your weight loss. The trick is keeping it off. Good luck to you.

P.S. Be sure to exercise. You can't keep it off without exercise.

Scientology can't help her maintain her weight? They seem to be able to fix everyone else's issues.

We all need to be on the lookout for the high fructose corn syrup manufacturers have slipped in to EVERYTHING in a package. You can eat very little and be consuming hundreds of empty calories with this stuff. Don't eat anything you're grandma didn't have around.

Didn't she have a rather nasty cocaine problem during the "Cheers" era? I seem to remember her looking skinny then.

Hmmm...cocaine=weight loss?

Methinks she simply substituted one addiction for another.

Jeeze. Some people are just hardwired to be fat.
I think Alley should just accept it and resign herself to being a woman who chubby chasers love.
She's a pretty woman with plenty of friends and money. She also has a large ass. Who cares?

Maybe she's concerned about the long term effects of excess weight on her health. I have a friend who's just 50 and at least 100 lbs. overweight. She takes 2 types of blood pressure meds, a drug for indigestion and cholesterol lowering drugs. Now, her knees are starting to give out and instead of walking more, she's talking about knee replacement surgery!
And, I'm not saying it's fair (it's not), but I'm sure Kirstie's weight is keeping her from working as an actress. Let's face it, she's no Kathy Bates.

Kirsty needs to stop looking for the magic bullet and go back to basics. I went on Weight Watchers as its healthy, sane, normal. I did this for me, and it has worked like a charm. She needs to stop trying to be anorexic and just get to a healthy weight that works for her. Doing this for others is nice, but you have to do it for yourself first. There are no magic tricks, you just have to make the committment to yourself to change your ways.
The operations scare me, many have died from them, and god knows long term what it could cause. Basics and common sense are what work. By going back to a sensible diet, I lost 20 pounds in less than 2 months without gimmicks or starvation or pills. Nothing motivates like getting date offers and fitting into something slinky. Kirsty, find a good WW counselor and just do it. I did and I am not ever going back to the gimmick diets again. Its not a diet. Its a mind set.

to take this kind of weight off in 2 months, you had to be on a 1100 calory diet which is almost starving....1500 is normal and you would have not lost 20 pounds in 2 month, unless you did grueling exercise at the same time....all BS..

1100 calories a day is NOT starving. You can eat well on 1100 calories a day. "1500 is normal" you said? Yeah, if you're trying to MAINTAIN your weight.

Not true - I lost 60 pounds in 6 months by simply watching the fat contenet in the food I ate- I drank lots of water - and I let myself have 1 cheat day a week - I did not count calories, and I did not exercise until I lost the first 35 pounds. I was not starving - I just stayed away from red meat, mayo - fatty type foods and ate alot of fruits/vegs/and chicken with no skin and ground turkey.

Losing 20 lbs in 8 weeks is hardly unhealthy @ WW. That's 2.5 lbs a week and depending on what weight you start at, it is not unreasonable. The pace will eventually slow and the weight will eventually come off in increments of @ 1 lb a week for most people. But like all diets, WW is not for everyone. I was lucky and lost 50 lbs in 8 months and have kept it off for over 2 years now, but others struggle.

20 pounds in two month isn't healthy and something is wrong with your statement....weight watchers does not advocate losing weight that quick...

That is true. Weight Watchers advocates losing about 2 pounds per week. More than that is considered unhealthy. W.W. is not a starvation plan.

Jenny Craig probably isn't any better or worse than any other program. It's nearly impossible to keep the weight off on any of them. Sad but true. Once you get really fat, you'll most likely never be thin again.

I tried it, horrible food, it went into the trash can and never again.....you can't live on that food, your body is not made to eat this artificial crap.....and will revolt eventually with over binging......I eat mostly home cooked food and keep my weight at an acceptable level....

Take a look at pictures of L.ron Hubbard (not thin)- the only reason he wasn't fatter is that he was a druggie! - Which is pretty funny since Scientology does not condone even prescription drugs.

not if she doesn't listen...you never heard of , you can lead a horse to the water, but you can't make him drink....Ally thinks good times and happyness goes through the stomack instead of the brain....another misguided woman in Hollywood, welcome to the list....she has been fighting this already when she did Cheers....only she was younger and it wasn't that obvious...

Good for Kirstie. These programs do good at first and then go too far. Witness: Valerie Bertinelli looked great after a few weeks on the program, then states that she needs to lose 10 more lbs. That's 10lbs too much. Curves are good, bones are gross. Sometimes, when I see the before and after pictures in the ads for weight loss, I find the before picture to be more appealing. Too much skinny is as unappealing as too much fat.

that's a fat person talking, skinny is good and healthy if it is done right...you still have to eat natural foods.....but skinny is good.....and most of all healthy....fat people like to spread this myth that skinny is ugly and unhealthy lolololol, no fatso's are unhealthy and ugly and a pain to sit next to....
