Clinton Supporter: Red-State Delegates Are "Second-Class"

Politico   |  Ben Smith   |   February 18, 2008 12:37 PM

A co-chairman of Hillary's Michigan campaign and has a line that's sure to drive a whole bunch of red state governor's up the wall:

"Superdelegates are not second-class delegates," says Joel Ferguson, who will be a superdelegate if Michigan is seated. "The real second-class delegates are the delegates that are picked in red-state caucuses that are never going to vo, te Democratic."

This is awesome, now I hope she wins. I would love to see a Clinton get her ass handed to her by a Republican who should have no shot in hell of winning.

One more nail in the coffin from her own camp. Obviously, it's not just Republicans that drive a wedge between people.

If Senator Clinton is our nominee we will lose in November and deservedly so.

It is the truth, it is like saying, the majority of blacks are voting for Obama. Democrats will not carry those red states because the majority of voters are Republicans.

So then Democrats can never win? Last time I checked Ohio and Florida were red.

"The real second-class delegates are the delegates that are picked in red-state caucuses that are never going to vote Democratic."

Is it possible that the reason we never win those states is that we continue to put their interests behind California and New York?

Somehow, I just have a feeling that when this is all said and done, the only states that Hillary thinks are important are the ones she won.

Now, there is some ambiguity there. Do you suppose he means states or delegates that will never vote democratic?

I am glad to know I am a second class citizen. I have been feeling that way for 30 years inside the Democratic Party. Now Clinton's spokesman makes it official

Is Hillary willing to give back the 25 delegates from Oklahoma who are pledged to her because they ain't nothin' but second class trash?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:10 PM on 02/18/2008

That is why you should have voted for Obama, hey but at least he carried Oklahoma County

Guess Hillary won't be spending too much time here in Texas, being as our red state delegates are only second-class. Can't wait for March 4.

Good God, finally someone has the guts to speak honestly!

Who is this masked person.

How can I vote for him? :)

Yeah good luck in the general with the "blue" states. Let's see you got NY, MA, MN, CA. Good luck winning only those states.

I'm fairly certain Hill and her cronies have some more excuses up their sleeves: I'm guessing too Hawaiian, too tall, too bi-racial, too landlocked, too pretty and too male are next on her list. Feel free to add groups that I carelessly forgot to invalidate.

Is this really fair? Michigan is a huge and important Democratic state. Why can't he express an opinion?

You don't mind it when some delegate from New Jersey speaks to the press about how she switched to Obama.

So why isn't he allowed?

Are you serious? Its okay to call more than half the nation second class citizens? Stop making us Californians look bad.

AnninCA Michigan has a lot of black folks in it, or were you only going to count them as 3/5ths. Face it She has lost the GE bc Black people (who make up a large percent of Democrats in Ohio) Ohio and college students won't vote for her.

Republicans in Ohio see it as their moral duty to vote against her.

HRC HAS ALREADY LOST!

FISA UPDATE

A good current article on FISA.

http://firedoglake.com/2008/02/18/why-isnt-fisa-enough/

Talking Points Memo has several articles worth your time, this is one:

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/todays_must_read_278.php

People, Congress is on break, which means that your Rep is in your district all this week. He/she will be holding forums and town-hall meetings. You need only call their district office and find out when and where. There will several opportunities.

The House RESTORE act is the only acceptable bill under consideration. Nothing from the Senate should be allowed within a country mile of the constitution.

Telecom immunity is an abhorrent run for cover by BushCo. You must stand up and fight.

Please find your congressman and give him what-for.

Geeze -- once again the Anti-Clinton headline writers twist the content of the article & quote Clinton supporters our of context.

READ IT AGAIN Obama fans!

He is NOT insulting delegates from red states.

See Dem02020 articulate the reason why below.

You know - it scares me that Obama may win the nomination because his FANS make snap judgments and buy any anti-Hillary blurb they read.

Obama fans are so easily manipulated by the press.

No we're not, you are a liar a big mean liar.

So you call Obama fans uninformed, so you are essentially saying blacks believe everything they hear and are not educated enough to figure things out and they need a headline to help them with their choices. You my friend are a racist. Man, I am a good spinner I can get a job with a campaign.

Yet not as bad as supporters of the Clintons are manipulated by them: Ready on day one; 35 years of experience; let's focus on the issues. Please! You've been fed pig-Penn slop and keep eating it up without a second thought.

Before any Hillary supporter criticizes anyone else perhaps they should call Clinton campaign HQ and ask why idiots like this continue to divide the party and nation? Or why they are so arrogant as to dismiss those who voted Democrat just not for Hill? Or where all te campaign money was spent?Clean your own house before you worry about others'.

Obama fans you say? They're looking more like programmed cultists every day.

They all say the same thing over and over. I guess the "Change" motto isn't working very well at all.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:43 PM on 02/18/2008

I have noticed the cultist wing of the Clinton campaign. "She's ready on day one" and "She's got 35 years of experience" gets repeated ad nauseam. No one bothers to fact check the thirty five or contrast them to Obama's experience.

The other wing of course follows the scorch the earth goal of destroying the Dems if they don't vote for her. Non-Hill and red state voters do not matter. If you can't win, demean and slander the opposition. That'll teach 'em.

Look, I agree it was not the most politically savy thing to say, but there's more then a grain of truth to it. Many of the red states are under-educated, good ol' boy states who could (and did) back our complete catastrophy of an imbecile president. One gets the impression that education in this country is now a hindrance towards getting elected. One either has to be a genuine fool (i.e. Reagan, W.) or be able to at least come across as a good ol' boy (Clinton, or anyone with a southern accent, apparently).

And shouldn't somebody be offering a course to all Northern-based pols on speaking red neck? A language course designed to teach them how to speak "Aw Shucks-ese"?

During the last election, my sister said (and she was serious, god help us) that she wasn't going to vote for Kerry because he "didn't know what it was like to be one of the common folk." I pointed out to her that Bush was nothing if not the ultimate fortunate son who had everything handed to him on a platter, and that at least Kerry served his country honorably during Vietnam. Didn't register with her at all. (Apparently, once somebody has a FOX sound bite in one's head, they do not die an easy death.)

So yes, while a dem does need to win at least a few red states (or more if the voting machines are rigged), any portion of the country that a lying war criminal like Bush could carry with such ease could perhaps most kindly be described as "impaired."

Ouch.....I don't think that's at all what is meant.

It simply means that some states really have a long Republican history. Those states aren't likely to vote Democrat in the general election.

There's no insult to Red States. Remember, Huff's headlines never really mean much.

You have to actually read the article.

Whoever writes the headlines has entirely too much fun. :)

I never thought I would see the day that Hillary and her running mate Bill would run a certifiable Bush League Campaign.

Why, why, why, why would any presidential candidate and their high-level supporters seek to alinate, piss off, and piss on half of the country? The last time I checked, IOWA and MISSOURI (and even ARIZONA) are now quasi-RED States that can be had with an inclusive political philosophy and approach. And right now, VIRGINIA, OHIO, COLORADO, NEW MEXICO and NEVADA are "Purple" - meaning they have an almost equal number of DEMS and REPUBLICANS.

Why take the position that RED STATE Delegates don't mean as much as BLUE STATE delegates? I'm sure this truly pisses off the 2-3 dozen culturally conservative DEMS elected to Congress in 2006 - a group whose numbers padded the majority the Democrats now enjoy.

This is why Barack Obama's candidacy is so freakin' important. He knows there will be some RED STATES that DEMS will not get in a presidential election, but it goes beyond the White House. Its also about a majority in state houses, a majority in the u.s. congress, govenorships, etc. He wants a majority party.

Obama is clearly the first clear beneficiary of Howard Dean's "50 State Strategy" - which put boots on the ground in Idaho, Alaska, North Dakota, and other RED STATES. Dean believes (as does Obama) that DEMS needs to be competing everywhere.

So when Obama is elected this fall, he and his vice-president, Kathleeen Sebelius (RED STATE Gov. of Kansas) will not only have the BLUE STATE credentials, but the RED STATE credibility to create a working majority of of Americans for transformational change.

Hillary is too polarizing. Hillary is too narrow-minded on party politics. Hillary is very "yesterday" in a period where people are looking toward the "future".
