Hillary's Chances: Can She Rescue Her Campaign After 10 Straight Obama Wins?

Now that Obama has beaten Hillary Clinton in ten states in a row, the major question is whether she can make a "Clinton comeback."

Keep checking below for updates on what the pundits and politicians are saying:

The AP reports that this is now Obama's race to lose since Clinton is "fading":

Barack Obama cruised past a fading Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Wisconsin primary and Hawaii caucuses Tuesday night, gaining the upper hand in a Democratic presidential race for the ages.

The twin triumphs made 10 straight for Obama, and left the former first lady in desperate need of a comeback in a race she long commanded as front-runner.

Clinton campaign sets up delegate site that pushes for Michigan, Florida delegates to be counted.

Exit polling shows that Obama is biting into a voting base that has traditionally been Clinton's.

CBS News exit polling of Wisconsin Democratic voters indicated that Obama made significant gains among groups long thought to be loyal to Clinton. Women voters and Catholics were equally split between the two, and Obama led Clinton among those without college degrees by 13 percentage points. He also edged her out among self-identified Democrats, 53 percent to 46 percent, and won 54 percent of the vote from those in households making less than $50,000 a year.

Meanwhile, Obama continued to dominate the groups that have favored him in the past, winning convincing majorities of men (67 percent), college graduates (60 percent) and those in households earning more than $50,000 a year (60 percent).

Everyone is looking to Texas and Ohio to see if Clinton can put a wedge into Obama's momentum.

Texas and Ohio: Two states, two debates, one chance for Hillary Rodham Clinton to save her moribund candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The former first lady suffered another bruising night Tuesday, badly losing the Wisconsin primary and the Hawaii caucuses to Barack Obama. The Illinois senator has now crushed Clinton in 10 straight contests, amassing a growing delegate lead and building support among women and white working class voters who have long formed the core of Clinton's candidacy.

Clinton aides are confident that she can take Texas and Ohio, despite polling that shows Obama is gaining on her.

Ace Smith, Clinton's Texas state director, said the response the campaign is getting on the ground is "absolutely amazing" and recent stops have drawn thousands of supporters. "We're comfortable we're going to have a ground operation we haven't seen in the state in a long time," he said. "We're going to have a campaign down here where we cede absolutely nothing."

A CNN poll out Monday gave Clinton a narrow 50%-48% lead against Obama and a separate USASurvey poll gave Clinton a slighter larger 50%-45% lead. Smith played down the polls. "I don't think there's any big movement," he said. "There's so many polls showing so many different things."

The media is now seeing little hope in Clinton's candidacy after Obama's latest wins. USNews does a round-up of today's reports across the country.

Sen. Barack Obama yesterday easily won the Wisconsin primary and the Hawaii caucuses, and the media is now openly questioning Sen. Hillary Clinton's viability going forward. CNN (2/20) reports that with 99% reporting, Obama topped Clinton 58%-41% in Wisconsin. In Hawaii, with 68% reporting, Obama beat Clinton 76%-24%. The AP reports this morning that Obama "cruised past a fading" Clinton, "gaining the upper hand in a Democratic presidential race for the ages." The wins, says the AP, "left the former first lady in desperate need of a comeback in a race she long commanded as front-runner." The Baltimore Sun reports, "Since Super Tuesday, everything has gone Obama's way, and there have been few, if any, signs that Clinton can stop him."

Furthermore, let me add here that as cities grew people demanded healthcare, fire and police protection, transportation, playgrounds, libraries, art galleries, museums. The people put in three city forms of government to obtain these services. It is Democracy to give healthcare to people. A smart person wants to live!

I believe you need to explain more fully your healthcare program. You stated you would make healthcare more affordable and people would be made to buy healthcare for themselves. I disagree with mandatory healthcare for not all people can afford it. You do not know what cruel circumstances a person might be experiencing and to add a further burden financially to them would be wrong.

Already the poor are unfairly targeted to pay a smokers' tax for Children's healthcare who knows what else. Under the lash of budget cuts for years not much money is left for job seeker or homeless. People don't understand how cruel some of these Welfare programs are with cruel rules and taking their money. The poor in Sfc get their Welfare checks twice a month and not much money. I quit evil, corrupt jobs and can't even afford job fax money since companies don't give name and address in newspaper.

There are untruths being said about the money poor get as well. Cato Institute,Wash DC lied and exaggerated about how much money job seeker and homeless get. They are on radio to privitize Social Security, yet they lie.

Will your healthcare tax credit you said you'd give be enough for person to afford healthcare premiums? We need a clarification on that.

I want to make a correction here. In regards to poor paying for a smoker's tax I mentioned that in past businesses felt burdened by too much tax and complained. Thus came about Congress levying taxes on the people. All this is true except it was the Landowners who felt burdened unfairly by too much taxes. In the beginnning America's wealth lay in land. Then Businesses became wealthy and Landowners felt they were paying too much taxes and complained. Please note people that if I notice I make a mistake or remember wrong something I will certainly correct it as I have done here and elsewhere before.

The Hillary & "Bill in a China Shop" show is in freefall.

There are two stages before political irrelevancy.

First the politician becomes the object of derision and then they become the object of pity. That is where HRC finds herself.

Hey, call me silly, but doesn"t her campaign remind you of the war in Iraq.

Bush was fixated on winning Baghdad, thinking that constituted victory and gave little thought to the aftermath.

HRC was fixated on winning Super Tuesday, feeling confident that she would have it wrapped up by then, so why bother with the caucus states.

Bush thought that the Iraqi people wanted democracy but what they really wanted was security.

HRC thought the American people wanted experience, but what they really wanted was change.

Bush thought that since he had the support of the Chalabis the support of the Iraqi people would follow.

HRC thought that if she had the support of the Rangels and Youngs, she would have the support of a core constituency.

Both Bush and HRC can be faulted for hiring people based on loyalty and a distant, secondarily, competence.

Neither Bush nor HRC can be accused of admitting to error.

Neither can be accused of humility.

Both feel that if you are not with them, you are against them.

Bush calls his enemies evil.
HRC threatens to "demonize" those who question her wisdom.

All of this is so old school!

Well a political Tsunami is sweeping across this land and I am reminded of a Dylan line, "Something is happening here and you don"t know what it is, do you Mr. Jones!"

Here is some Hillary nonsense Obama wrote a book and talked about HIS DRUG use to innoculate himself against its revelation and call any reference to it an attack, very clever indeed all Obamanistas went for it plus most of them are drug users anyway, Obama has consistenly voted with the majority for the War in Iraq and is yet to cast a no vote against it,the change Obama talks about is race,a black guy in charge, his positions are nearly exactly the same as Clintons, his campagin is run by Daley from Chicago and Kennedy from Ma...old school old time dems....now he claims he does not need the votes required to win the nom just a majority and then the super delegates need to kiss the ring of King Obama....and all vote for he ?

If you non Dem voters actually had half a brain you would understand this enormous contradiction from King Obama

Sounds to me like nothing is changing just the mouth.

And you Obamanistas continue to whine about Hillary being to rough on him...

He is full of it....and at first all you far lefty loons wanted someone to get tough with the GOP....now you are supporting a guy who is claiming he is intent on making nice and having a little snuggle fest in Washington with the GOP..you are such deluded hypocrits.

I think that Bill is sincere in his remarks.
It would be nice if Obama can form a dream ticket with Hillary as his V.P if Hillary folds in the next Primary or even in Ohio.
They did mention about a dream ticket in one of their earlier debates. The dream ticket has their own share of fans and what better team than a First African American and a first woman in the highest office of the land. Cheney as V.P has been the mastermind anyways behind Bush these past 8 years. So it would not be as bad to being a V.P. You cannot compare Obama to Bush but come to think of it like Bush who hardly had much experience Obama is a little similar and along with Hillary they can make a smart team and for sure kick the McCain out. McCain is a hero but unfortunately Bush has lost the Republican base and it would be a folly to put a Republican in charge of the nation this time. It is clearly time for change. That is for a Democrat to run the affairs of the nation.

I think Hillary would be a great addition to Obama's cabinet but I don't think that many people would want to see her as his VP given some of the nonsense that her campaign tried to pull during the nomination process.

Six months ago it might have been feasible, but now I think that there are much better options out there.

I went to see Obama at the stop in Dallas today. Reunion Arena holds 18,000, it was full. They had to turn away thousands of people that waited in a long line, but there was no more room. The crowd was made up of all ages, races, sexes and sexualities.
I'd like to see McCain fill that arena.

I'd like to know ...

... are 100% of these White Make Dems and Repubs voting for Obama because they like his policies?

Or, are they voting against Hillary because they don't want a woman to have a chance to win the White House.

I'm not the only one who has heard analysts ponder if these White Men suddenly voting for Barack may suddenly shift to McCain in the general.

We can't deny that a portion of Obama's votes could come from men (and some women) who don't want to ever see a woman (of any color) in the White House.

And before you all start saying, "Oh, no. There's no sexism involved in Obama's wins!"

Tell me why so FEW WOMEN win any elections (local, state, federal) when they run for office?

Hey - it's okay, you guys just gave our country, and the world, John McCain as president for the next four years.

I'm working to get Hillary Clinton nominated. For 232 years we've had nothing but male presidents and vice presidents. Imagine if men had lived with only female presidents and vice presidents! How hard would THEY be working right now to get a great man as the Democratic candidate?

Every woman in America should be doing herself the huge favor of working hard for Hillary. She can still win Ohio and Texas. Hillary is the change WE can believe in. Make calls for Hillary. Blog for Hillary. Go to HillaryClinton.com. Find the issue you care about and compare. She has a better program for healthcare, education, the environment, the economy...

ONLY Hillary has a section under "Issues" for WOMEN. She's the candidate working for women, children, Hispanics, the elderly, the poor. If you care about yourself, vote for the person who cares about us and has ALWAYS worked for us - Hillary Clinton!

Quite frankly, if you follow their voting records there is scant difference between Clinton and McCain in policy so I would think you would be happy to see McCain be president. It really has little or nothing to do with Hillary being a woman, whether you believe this or not. Your line of reasoning makes you sound as if you are on her campaign payroll.

It mostly has to do with Hillary being a barely closeted Fascist who is sold out to AIPAC and as likely to bomb Iran as McCain. When you combine this with all her misrepresentations of her experience, one would have to have very myopic vision to view her as a progressive, liberal or any of the other things she posits herself.

Susan -

So FEW WOMEN get elected? Out of 100 senators and 435 members of Congress, and 50 governors, there are 14 women senators, 68 women Representatives, and 8 governors. Sure, it's not 50-50, but's not terribly bad, either.

As for blacks, there's 1 black Senator (Obama), 42 Representatives, and 1 black governor (Patrick).

You really have to stop looking at the world with such prejudiced views - FACTS would help.

You're pretty uninformed if you think so many people are voting against Hillary "because they don't want a woman to have a chance to win the White House".

Out of all the women senators, she is may be the most well-known, but that doesn't mean she's the most well-liked. And it's NOT because she's a woman.

The state I'm from, both of our Senators are women. One of them is pretty good (Boxer), and the other I think is absolutely terrible, and a traitor to the Democratic Party (Feinstein).

No obscenities. Just roll the tape, make sure you ask who they are and what their position with the campaign is. Then ask them how you could justify switching your vote when the district you, as a delegate, are representing voted for Obama.

This hype about superdelegates (automatic delegates) not representing the voters is propaganda put out by the Obama campaign because more automatic delegates said they would vote for Hillary.

About .01% of this country is really responsible for getting anyone elected. They're the activists who register voters, make hundreds of calls, join clubs, donate, pass out yard signs - work day and night as volunteers for candidates. For example, some student Democratic club leaders are superdelegates and some senior activists. Without these volunteer activists, neither party would survive and the Democratic process would stall.

So the party votes for some regular delegates and automatically adds other delegates, including a few elected officials, to the mix. If they aren't included, thanked and rewarded, they might not work as hard and that could cause a candidate to lose in the general election.

To try and make superdelegate votes seem "bad" could be damaging to the Democratic Party. ALL delegates are representatives for larger sectors of voters and ALL of them can change their vote during the nominating convention.

I think Hillary is great. She has been on the scene in American politics for decades and always stood for the right things; ending vietnam; healthcare for all citizens; Civil rights protections for children; equal rights for every American. She dealt with Bill's infidelity and did so with composure. Many of her heroes are my heroes: E. Roosevelt, Saul Alinski.
She is flawed. I wouldn't want to be her room-mate. I'm sure she is too intense and energetic for me to be around much of the time. But I sure do want her to be our next president.
I don't really care that she once gave a thousand dollars to a friend and in a years time collected 100k -- I wish I had a friend like that.
It's ok with me if she forgives Bill -- in fact she gets an attagirl for that one.
She and Bill invested in a trusted friend's development and got burned -- again ... so what?
According to M. Albright she is the type of person who loves policy. She enjoys mastering content, endlessly tweaking legislation, negotiating with difficult opponents ... that is what makes her EFFECTIVE!
She has obviously had to make difficult decisions about managing a legal and political career in domains that certainly didn't always reflect her ideals. She has done a good job and certainly may have made compromises but -- and this is the important part -- never abandoned those ideals.
All the vitriol and all the hate she is weathering makes sense to me. I wish it didn't. She's a hard working, effective, unapologetic, formidable WOMAN. There, I said it.
