Republican presidential front-runner John McCain suggested on Friday that he hoped retired Cuban leader Fidel Castro would die soon and said Castro's brother will be a worse leader.

"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon," McCain told a town-hall style meeting of about 150 people, referring to communist theoretician Marx who died on March 14, 1883.

Maybe John needs to meet Groucho Marx. A few lessons in humor might prevent him from sounding like such a dink

This is unbelievable, the bulk of these comments are lashing against McCain’s statement. What you people seem to have forgotten is that Fidel Castro is responsible for the death of thousands of Cubans, although a Cuban life may not mean much to an American life, it is a human life none the less. Fidel Castro is pretty much to Cubans what Hitler was to the Jews. He destroyed our culture and the degraded the quality of our people a deteriorated malnourished shadow of a civilization. Cuba will never be the same. Now, I’ve accepted the fact that the American people don’t care to bring democracy to Cuba, but I refuse to tolerate any one who sheds one ounce of sympathy for this communist tyrant, who is to say the least, a murderer. So please, I don’t speak against anyone who has anything bad to say about histories monsters like Ted Bundy, Hitler or Stalin, so please don’t speak against McCain for hating on my enemy, not yours.

Castro? Screw him.

Having stated that, I think the earlier posters have a valid point. Remarks such as the latest by McCain are not presidential. In fact, that was a stupid thing for him to say.

IMO not a very presidential thing to say, but it shoudl resonate with all the goobers in the country, just like Bush this is a guy they can drink beer with. Unfortunatly drinking beet is not in the job description actually dealing with other countrues is. Lets hope sanity rules and we kick to the curb these narrow minded, bigoted, uncooth, neadrethals.

"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon," McCain told a town-hall style meeting. What a sick comment. McCain is really disturbed. Like a school yard bully who never grew up, with deep anger issues.

And I hope that Mr. McCain has a chance to meet Ronald Reagan real soon.

Let me see if I get this right! Nixon went to China, Reagan went to Russia and talked to Gorbachev regularly and Bush 41 went to Japan (even though he couldn't stomach it :))These are all conservatives in whose shoes McCain is hoping to walk. What was the result of all these acts of diplomacy? But, just maybe, these are not the results that McCain is hoping for with respect to Cuba. Maybe he is dead serious about keeping the present regime's policy of hostility intact.

Be careful what you wish for, McCranky. You might be the one meeting KM before Fidel does!

Things sometimes have a habit of working out that way -- especially when you act like an asshole.

Deja Vu! This what my GREAT-grandmother used to say about her enemies, "May his Maker call him to His arms, as soon as possible." How old is Mcain?

I hope when McCain goes he gets to meet Karl Marx up there in his heaven (I don't believe in god so this is just a supercilious comment) ... I hope he meets Marx because Marx could teach him a great deal about economy since his understanding of economy by his own admission is sorely lacking.
I think it is sick to wish death upon Castro. Our whole policy towards Cuba is a cold war artifact often fueled by reactionary zealots and wealthy oligarchical Cuban expatriots ... I hope when McCain dies as he will because he is very old ... he gets to meet with Ho Chi Minh and finally gets to have the discussion he sorely needs to get past the nightmare he went through a nightmare that as I recall was also the result of bad policy

I hope McCain gets to meet Jerry Fawell soon.

This comment was pretty offensive. No matter what you think, as a potential world leader, should you be wishing DEATH on anyone? A very, very odd remark.

Diplomatic skills should be a requisite for any candidate running for the presidency. If the President comes across as a "yahoo" no matter how skilled the diplomats in the State Department/Foreign Services are, the President holds the final impression. Tact, compromise, conflict avoidance, infinite negotiation, and not shooting your mouth off and uttering rubbish, are requirments for effective organizational management and leadership.
