Clay Aiken Shirks High-Level Government Duties As Wikipedia Nerds Go Ballistic

Apparently, Barack Obama isn't the only person under fire for ducking responsibilities by doing things like voting "present." According to today's Reliable Source, sexually ambivalent chanteur/Spamalot star Clay Aiken finds himself at the center of a fierce firestorm of recriminations over his failure to attend important governmental meetings. The aftershocks of Aiken's dereliction of duty is already being felt in many arenas of pretend importance, like on Wikipedia:

Our inquiry was launched after a raging debate broke out over edits to the singer's Wikipedia page. Aiken detractors -- who scoured an incomplete set of committee minutes posted online and found no reference to the crooner -- were branding him a no-show, drawing fierce push-back from Aiken partisans.

The Claymates argued that: (1) A friend of a friend is on the committee and says yuh-huh, Clay has so been going to meetings! (2) Maybe Clay keeps his name off the books to avoid getting mobbed by fans; and (3) Haters don't really know, do they?

The Reliable Sourceresses conducted an investigation of their own, which revealed that he has, in fact, "skipped six of the seven meetings since he was named" to the Presidential Committee for People With Intellectual Disabilities. Naturally, what we find adorable is that President Bush gets to appoint people to a "Committee for People With Intellectual Disabilities."

Here are the facts...... The committee was well aware when Clay accepted this position that his career schedule would not allow him to attend all meetings. He was on tour for FOUR of those missed meetings. He was/is on Broadway in SPAMALOT for the latest meeting. That is 5 of the 6 meetings he missed & I'm sure he had a good reason for missing the other one as well. Besides, not going to a boring meeting DOES NOT MEAN HE IS NOT CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMITTEE. You've never heard of conference calls, telephones, faxes??? Or even if he had nothing to do with the meetings, he could still be doing other things behind the scenes. E.g., he once spoke about having a 300 PAGE REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE that he had to read & comment on. The obsessive Clay-haters who called the Post & instigated this story also wrote to the committee to complain that Clay was on it! The committee head (name escapes me at the moment) issued a letter saying that CLAY IS INVOLVED IN THE WORK OF THE COMMITTEE, TAKES HIS RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY & IS VERY COMMITTED TO ISSUES REGARDING THE DISABLED. Clay himself also told fans that there is a lot of politics, beaurocracy & red tape involved (this is Washington after all) & if his fans knew all the details, they would be very disappointed. Clay himself is disappointed in something that he thought was going to be a valuable asset to issues of the disabled. His entire life has been devoted to this cause, so to question his commitment is ridiculous. There is way more to this than a few missed meetings. The real story is the Bush administration's non-commitment to this issue & how they've set up a committee for appearance sake that is not allowed to truly do its job.

I thought this was a joke until I Googled "Committee on Intellectual Disabilities." But, really, who's better qualified than Smirky McChimp to appoint its members?

Who did they ask, the janitor? This guy is not a shirker. Something is not kosher about this report.
