Dan Rather Cbs Lawsuit

New York Daily News:

Dan Rather slammed CBS Tuesday for trying to keep his court fight with the network out of the public eye.

The newsman - who has filed a $70 million lawsuit against the Tiffany network, where he anchored the "CBS Evening News" for 24 years - said "corporate overlords" are conspiring to withhold several key documents.

The 76-year-old was back in Manhattan Supreme Court for a hearing on his suit, which accuses CBS of sidelining him to make nice with the White House following a September 2004 report that questioned President Bush's Vietnam-era military service.

Rather left the anchor's chair in March 2005 and was limited to being a bit player on "60 Minutes" before departing from CBS.

Based on the body of work, this fine journalist deserves the benefit of the doubt. While he may have made some mistakes, his intent remains beyond reproach.

Recently, he and 60 Minutes each did reporting on Blackwater. 60 Minutes provided a puff piece right out of Blcakwater's Media Relations Department. Dan's piece on HDNet provided the insightful reporting that 60 Minutes USED to offer.

He has also done some fine work on FEMA's toxic trailers the directly affected how FEMA handles this issue. My greatest disappointment is that he is not producing shows for HDNet more frequently.

CBS is part of the CORPORATE CONTROLED MEDIA and they were there to see that GEORGE BUSH and CEIME FAMILY was elected and his being a DODGER of his responsabilitys to his MILLITARY service was not to be QUESTONED by anyone NOT EVEN DAN RATHER because they are making MILLIONS off this war. And BUSH service was not to BE QUESTIONED BY ANYONE. Just look who ownes CBS and look at what MILLITARY contracks that they have, and you will see that the CORAPORATE CONTROLED MEDIA hand picked G. BUSH TO BE PRESIDENT. The alos hand picked JOHN McCain to be the next PRESIDENT.

Don't worry Dan, we all know the truth about you and CBS.

Your version of the "truth" is about as reliable as those forged documents.

Every time I see Dan Rather pop up in the news or on TV, I start to feel sorry for him for what CBS did to his career - then I remember what a cheerleading "patriotic" war-monger he was in the run up to and invasion of Iraq.
Rot in hell, Dan.

Dan Rather is a great journalist and I support him wholeheartedly. He has much more credibility than the CBS executives who will do anything to ingratiate themselves with the White House.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying Dan Rather's investigative reporting on HDNET TV.

Keep their feet to the fire Dan. I am totally behind you because we need our media to be totally objective and not do the bidding of their corporate overlords.

I would love to see Dan Rather vindicated. Keep up the good fight, Dan!

Dan Rather suffered from being too good when he was starting and did not continue to be terrific as he aged. But, I think he was set up for the fall by one of his competitors, probably MSNBC, which broke the story that there were no documents to verify Rather's producers summary of the facts.
And then his producers never followed up on the secretary for the Bush commanding officer, who said that while there were no records remaining, the facts about Bush that Rather told were, in her memory, exactly accurate. All that got lost when Sumner Redstone suddenly saw a government inquiry and objection to his media grabs.
Rather was the goat, not the bad guy some of the comments are implying. Goats get sacrificed, n'est pas vrai?

As much as I agree with Rather, I also think he's a hypocrite.

He was getting million dollar paychecks because of corporate sponsorship for decades while CBS had been complicit in propagating the Corporate Slant.

Real journalists (like Greg Palast) fled this country years ago and all we have left are intellectually challenged elitist "info-tainers" (Russert, Gibson, all of CNN,...) whos scripts are written by Corporate Idealogues trying desperately to maintain this corrupt and apathetic, laughable market-based serfdom we have falsely labelled "Democracy".

I agree Chavez. Still, I remember how Rather stood up to tricky Dick Nixon. The Republicans called him Damn Rather. Oh well......
