The chief executive of the Victoria's Secret lingerie chain -- known for its provocative, televised fashion shows and eye-popping stores -- admitted something shocking Thursday morning: The brand has become "too sexy."

"We have so much gotten off our heritage," said Sharen Turney, chief executive of Victoria's Secret, during an analyst call with investors.

"We use the word 'sexy' a lot and have gotten off 'ultra-feminine'," said Ms. Turney, explaining that she wants to bring more-sophisticated, higher-quality products back to Victoria's Secret stores.

For those complaining of font size for firefox(which anyone with a brain uses over internet destroyer)...click tools, then options...then content...under fonts click advanced...there will be a box in the window that says "allow pages to choose their own fonts instead of my selections above" uncheck this box, then up the size of the fonts.....pretty basic stuff.

For IE, Internet Explorer, ..tools..then u can hit fonts in the general tab and it will tell you how to do it. Then get firefox.... :)~

Perhaps. But the real problem with the chain is the merchandise is massively overpriced. Similar quality for many of their styles can be had for at least half the price with a little shopping around. Most ordinary people gave up shopping there years ago.

Well, I know that I only go there when I'm looking for something special. But, I definitely don't buy in bulk. I think that they've got themselves a niche that isn't worth giving up. This one makes no sense...

Younger people may not believe this, but about 25 years ago Victoria's Secret was just a little boutique store off Union Square in San Francisco that sold only gear for $1000-a-night prostitutes and ladies who wanted to look like that in their bedrooms. It hosted "men's nights" when gentlemen were served champagne by models clad in the merchandise. There were no jeans, swimsuits, or sunwear, just rare, exquisitely-made underthings and accessories of the finest materials and construction. And, yes, the little catalog was photographed like a men's magazine fantasia of beauty and wealth. At the time, it was pretty revolutionary. Bought out from its founders long ago, Victoria's Secret became just another suburban brand name, a mall-store chain with a catalog not much more attention-getting than Lands' End, and I can see why the CEO wants to "get back to the heritage." But the fact is that exclusivity and a global brand don't mix, and the place of the old, old Victoria's Secret has been taken by dozens of specialty undergarment purveyors, largely internet-based; so I'm not sure how much "heritage" can be restored.

Seems to me their goal was to overtake Frederick's of Hollywood in the sexy knickers market in the early days. Trashy Lingerie has them beat by a mile now.

I f the Post can't make this type size any bigger I am pretty much done here. Clicking on View and Text Size doesn't change the size and I can't wear my glasses to see the comments and look down at the keyboard. The text should be the same size as the stories above.

You reminded me that I still have some of those early catalogs. I was a beginning commercial photographer in '74, I used to visit their original store on Union street to buy undies for models.. The original photo shoots for the catalogs were done by women photogs (whose names escape me at the moment) and were very provocative and even showed flashes of pubic hair...
Maybe I should auction them off as Victoria Secret "Heritage" souvenirs.
LOL!

Stephanie Seymour was the first eye popping model in the original Victoria Secret catalog back when she was just a young lass and starting out. The catalog was shot and put together in Ohio, not in San Francisco.

After that she became a super model with her body plastered all over the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swim suit issue, Playboy (once only); and dated movie stars.

She was the best of the best.
