Earlier this week, it was announced that Idaho Senator Larry Craig is looking for summer interns. Last night on the "Late Show," David Letterman created a video spoof of the "official application announcement." Watch:

Huffpo headline writer strikes again -- I assumed it was a top ten list.

Well we all know what happens when you assume something and you just proved it .

I'm glad the writers are back. I hope the "righters" disappear though.

Yeah, this wasn't funny. I wanted it to be, but it wasn't. It's just cliche.

It's funny because he dared to say it (the joke)(as cliche as you may think it was).

Larry Craig should ask himself "Why am I still here?".

Lordy, Dave -- you're actually FUNNY again.... Ain't it great to not be handicapped by a writer's strike, among other things...

Dave hasn't been funny in years, the joke was delivered stillborn, and Larry Craigg's a pitiful self-loathing tool. I did like the laugh-to-loosen-the-broom comment, and will use it for my very own; I usually say such a person needs a stick-ectomy.

By the way, I howled at Jimmy Kimmel and Ben Affleck, mainly because Jimmy looked so giddy and Ben looked completely natural. Matt Damon plays a pretty convincing straight guy, too. I'd have his baby, anytime...or keep trying.

God is not pleased with Democrats who mock his good and faithful servant, Larry Craig, who is definitely not gay, but just slightly confused about his sexual identity, and can be helped with prayer offerings of $100 or more, sent to the following address ...

Although this funny routine was most likely written and produced by Dave's staff, he remains the true heir to King Carson. Conan, too, is hilarious- much, much funnier than Leno.

To paraphrase that great bard of yore

Craig protests just too much to be sure

That he isn't one of those

That the other way goes

And his gayness he tries to obscure.

When Senator Craig cries " God, I'm coming!"

It's in an airport washroom that he's slumming.

It just indicates

That he's found some new mates

Equipped with identical plumbing.

Awesome skit by Letterman.

NOW THAT'S THE TRUTH!

You can get more "straight talk" from the writers than from the straight talk express McCain.

David is NOT FUNNY. His like Dennis Miller only just little more LUCKY!
And David used to annoy me (when I watched it) cause he constantly lick his finger.
David... this is not a "GOOD THING" IT IS A BAD THING"
David... pay attention what your Mother said.

Dennis Miller is funny?
Rethugs are really funny in a macabre way.

Now that's some funny stuff!

Im glad Craig is still around - he brings down the entire Republican party. What an embarrassment...

What about Vitter?????

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:45 PM on 02/29/2008

NO, HE IS THE BASE OF THE REPUKLICANT PARTY!

It's not like they'd be in any better shape without him. For thirty years, the GOP has been about moralists who turn out to be molesters and adulterers, etc.

Wow, a good laugh and hot guys! I always liked you better than Leno, too! thanks Dave

This should be aired on all television stations in Idaho. That's right all two of them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:36 AM on 02/29/2008

Precisely the types of stories one would expect on a "progressive site" . Poor liberals, lost in the arena of ideas without a point.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:20 AM on 02/29/2008

THE POINT, maximumconfusion, is gay-bashing republican hypocrits courting votes from idiots, fundies and jackals while they are insulated and doing whatever they wish behind private community gates and (airport stall) doors. larry Craig deserves ever barb that comes his way.

What part do you not understand? Oh, I get it: bullies are not obliged to try and understand anything, are you?

The clip is hilarious.

How typically Republican! Defend the guy who solicited gay sex in the bathroom, out of one side of your face. Then rally for a Constitutional amendment to exclude gays, out the other side of your face. We all know that Republicans are two-faced hypocrites, but it's always amusing to have it illustrated so clearly in public. Bravo! And thanks for the laugh. And by the way, illustrating your hypocrisy IS the point!

Laugh a little, you will find that it loosens up that broom you have up your butt.

A great retort, pinkfloyd!

Get used it...the "poor liberals" have the skills to embarrass, mock and laugh at the utter hypocrisy that has been the "way" for the past 7 years. It's time for YOU people to crawl back under your rocks.

Umm, maxfusion (short for maximum confusion?), this wasn't a "story," it was a clip from a TV show. Also, the clip was from Letterman's show, hardly something qualifying as "the arena of ideas." There are plenty of serious, thoughtful blogs on this progressive site, if one is able to discern obvious entertainment content from serious commentary. (Poor conservatives, lost in the arena of blogs, without a clue.)

It's okay to come out... we liberals will applaud you, unlike your conservative friends.

lol......why dont you explain to us your ideas that science is a fraud and the earth is only 6000 years old.

We actually have lots of points, but unfortunately republican minions like yourself will never get them, as it usually takes liberal things like "analytical thought" to see them.

We "poor liberals" have a sense of humor. Not like you red-blooded conservatives, foaming at the mouth day in, day out, that the world doesn't run exactly the way you like it.

Conservatives have a great sense of humor, when they laugh at other people's pain.

So why didn't Letterman have a list for Gary Studds, Barney Frank, or that former governor of New Jersey?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:48 PM on 02/29/2008

He left the others out because they are not saying one thing and advocating another...simple.
Craig has mental probelms.
He should be pittied but for the fact that he has gone out of his way to hurt others for the very same desires that bedevil himself. He has spent a lifetime ignoring reality.
His having homesexual urges is not even an issue.
His willingness and record of trying to harm others who share his tastes and any so called, "Liberal" world view is.
He is a typical two faced Republican poster boy . Too stupid to see they have been shooting themselves and the entire country in the foot.
Shall we now blame his parents? At some point...as Republicans like to point out....we are responsible for ourselves.
The man is troubled and should be pittied but for the harm he does.

Hmmmmm... perhaps 'cos they came out in public and admitted who they are?

Something a right-winger would never do.

Barney was not in the closet bashing his own brothers for gain, for one, Duh.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:24 PM on 02/29/2008

There is no parody in barbing men who are OUT OF THE CLOSET. Craig is still IN THE CLOSET, so he makes himself the object of satire. On top of that, who even remembers Gary Studds except Republicans obsessed with Democratic scandals of the early 1980s (I had to look it up of course). So you think Letterman, a talk show host, should do a bit on an obscure DEAD congressman who disgraced his office in 1983, in name of the equally deceased Fairness Doctrine?

Just as I suspected, Republicans do not understand comedy, or art, or anything doesn't net them a buck.

Since you don't watch Letterman... I seem to recall him doing stuff on McGreevey. As for the whole Gary Studds - Barney Frank thing... One this is an example of changing the subject so you don't have to face the hypocrisy that Larry Craig embodies. And two, this sounds like a Rush/Hannity talking point... either you're listening to one of them as you type or you're totally brainwashed and unable to think for yourself.

Yeah. It's funny. Craig gives actual gays a bad name, just like all the hypocritical gay republican-mafia.
Actual gays should really be ostracizing these self loathing, criminal douchebags.
Don't date 'em, don't talk to 'em, and most of all DON'T VOTE FOR THEM!!!
If you are a gay republican, you are supporting a group of people who want to kill you all. Think about it.
What is the endgame for these people? Gays have always, and will always, exist. Society, obviously needs to come to grips with the issue, accept facts as they are, and do what is right, respecting gays as citizens equal to straight citizens. It is evident that, given the authority, the christofascist movement and the republican "values" crowd...(HA!!) would line up all the gays and kill them. Of course, this would only "solve" the "problem" for a few short moments, until the next gay person was born, or self realized.

The perception in the media of this incident is a bit irritating, even the perception of many liberals. This has been viewed as some 'gay' thing. It would be like equating all heterosexuals with one person who gets busted for picking up a prostitute. Referring to that incident as part of the 'heterosexual lifestyle'. Whatever, a closeted Republican trolling around a toilet is not part of the 'gay lifestyle'.
