Obama Plans To Pick Republicans For Cabinet

AS Barack Obama enters the final stages of the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination, he is preparing to detach the core voters of John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, with the same ruthless determination with which he has peeled off Hillary Clinton's supporters.

The scene is set for a tussle between the two candidates for the support of some of the sharpest and most independent minds in politics. Obama is hoping to appoint cross-party figures to his cabinet such as Chuck Hagel, the Republican senator for Nebraska and an opponent of the Iraq war, and Richard Lugar, leader of the Republicans on the Senate foreign relations committee.

I'd prefer he not include Republicans in his cabinet because they've proven themselves to be nothing but a bunch of hypocritical, backstabbing, lying son's of bitches. However it's a unique counterpoint to the last seven years of crass Republicanism that has resulted in Democrats being unceremoniously excluded from the legislative process. He's reaching across the isle, which is a good thing, I just hope he doesn't get his hand bitten off,

Billary knows that she only needs to survive the first vote at the convention without a winner.

The really sad fact is that the pledged delegates (the ones from the elections) have to vote only the first time for who they are supposed to.

Billary knows this very well. Many, if not most of these pledged delegates are actually long time establishment persons.

And on the second vote they will revert to voting their long time establishment ownership. (They all then turn into superdelegates.)

It's not going to go that far. Watch what happens after Hillary fails to win TX and OH by the 15-20% she needs.

If Tuesday is a tie or a slight victory for Clinton, Obama will be within striking distance of 2025 if the remaining superdelegates side with him.

His lead is prohibitive. And Hillary Clinton's doomsday scenario for the convention will guarantee a loss in November - everyone in the party knows that.

investigating email smear campaign in Ohio. Voters saying they are getting emails saying Obama is Muslim, won't use the Bible, doesn't know words to Naitonal Anthem.

Then they interviewed Hillary and asked her about it and she said:

"I take Senator Obama at his word." and "I have no reason to doubt what he says about being christian."

Does that sound like renounce / reject / denounce ???

not to me.

The even more frightening part is this: many Ohio voters BELIEVE it

My only hope was that a lot of superdelegates---like Richardson--will see her comments for the sleazy tactics that they are.

I hope it backfires like SC did in inspiring the Kennedy endorsement for Obama. Hopefully Richardson (and Gore? Edwards?) will weigh in tomorrow, before it's too late on Super March 4.

I really think party activists will be disgusted by the Clintons and their games.

If Clinton wins so much as a single state Tuesday, I see her continuing on right up to the convention. Any win, no matter how inconsequential, will serve as a pretext to stay in the race, and the Hillary lovers can always say that Obama doesn't have the 2,025 delegates needed for the nomination.

Don't mean to be a broken record but, unless Dean, Gore, the DNC and Super Delegates see the math makes it impossible for Hillary to beat Obama and jump on his wagon.

They can end this without Hillary volunteering to step out.

I think Dean et al. will do that IF Obama wins Texas and Ohio.

But if Clinton squeaks out Ohio and takes Rhode Island, the case for "let's let Pennsylvania and the other states have their say" becomes compelling.

Hate to say it, but the Republican winner-take-all approach seems attractive about now.

The Day-Time Drama version of this is Carter calls Mondale and Gore and ask them to fly down, so that the three of them can get Bill and Hillary on the phone...

Carter cannot have forgot the damage done to his (hopeless) campaign in '80 by Ted Kennedy's challenge...

Appointing a Republican to his cabinet demonstrates Obama's willingness to hear ALL SIDES of an issue, rather than surrounding himself with yesmen. Much like President Lincoln (who appointed all of his rivals to his cabinet), so does Obama understand the importance of hearing the full story.

Obama '08!

I'm having a hard time understanding how the supporters of hope and change don't see this as the road map to that very end!

If it's not about inclusion in the first man of color given a real chance of winning ... what is it about?

.

"hope" could be ending wars and reining in the corporate state

oh yeah no one "given a real chance of winning" (by the corporations that control the state) can do that!!!

deluded by good speeches and chicago politics gone national. vote early & often.

Hopefully one of those "young Obama supporters" will know how to hack those Diebold machines, so every time a 60+ woman goes into the voting booth in Ohio and pulls the lever for Clinton, it will register 3 votes for Obama.

On Monday morning, Obama should go directly after the 60+ women demographic vote by announcing the inclusion of cats as dependent tax deductions.

They say a sizable chunk of Clinton's voter base are uneducated voters.

There's something disturbing about the fact that Ohio may go to Clinton because so many in that state are completely in the dark about what's going on in the country and around the world.

A majority of Americans still believe:

Saddam was involved with 9/11.

There was a man named Noah who built an ark big enough to hold all animals, insects and birds from every continent on Earth. And none of them ate each other.

Hillary Clinton has 35 years of experience.

Two Americas, indeed.

Good point, and of that majority possibly 90% will be voting for Hillary in Texas and Ohio.

I do not think that a majority believes the Saddam-9/11 connection anymore.

Thanks Obama! I have been worried about Obama since he made the dumb remark about the Republicans having all the Ideas or something such. No need to worry if Obama is putting Republicans into Cabinet positions. I won't be voting for him.

Anyway, if we have established adequately the idea that all Obama supporters are of exactly one mind and can all be held to account for everything that any other Obama supporter writes on an anonymous blog, and that all Obama supporters must take an Oath, like Boy Scouts, to uphold the mission of Obama, then perhaps I can draw your attention to something important?

FISA UPDATE!

The House leadership is considering splitting up the Senate abomination in order to allow congressmen to trade votes (you vote yes on A, I"ll vote no, you vote no on B, I"ll vote yes) in order to give them cover to pass the entire bill.

Please read: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/1/175613/1399/825/467005

A list of Blue Dog Congressmen thought to be sympathetic to the concept of Telecom immunity is at: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/29/145640/493/398

Then call Pelosi, Hoyer, Conyers, some Blue Dogs and your own congressman and raise holy hell. Tell them that only the RESTORE act is acceptable.

From the article: "Under pressure to end an impasse over espionage legislation, House Democrats are considering a plan to vote on a bill next week that would give the government broad new eavesdropping authorities but strip out a provision that would protect phone companies from lawsuits."

Please act!
