Hillary: Obama Not Muslim

Hillary: Obama Not Muslim "As Far As I Know"

Huffington Post   |   March 3, 2008 10:03 AM

Via Ben Smith, Hillary gives a less than adamant answer to a question about Obama's religion on 60 Minutes. Hillary claims, "I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that." It's an issue where even an accidental slip this can do damage:

Any lefty that uses this against Hillary Clinton is a bullshit artist to the extreme. Smarmy whitewater comparisons are simply more Obama trash talk. I have never seen such prickly people in my life as the whining Obamites.

Hillary deserves to be president. Just ask her supporters. If you disagree, you are a sexist, or who knows maybe even a Muslim like Obama could be if we didn't take him at his word that he isn't.

Hillary for President: Haven't men hurt her enough? We owe her.

When I read about this yesterday, it sounded bad. But when I watched the clip, it's no big deal. She answered the question thoroughly the first time. Then Kroft pushed her. And I am an Obama supporter.

"I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that."

Huh what is wrong with saying that. She is saying there isn't any reason to doubt what he says about his religion (she says there isn't a reason to doubt that when he says he is a Christian, he is). .
She takes him on the basis of what he says (He says he is a Christian and she accepts that).

You Obama supporters will just tear anything Clinton says to find something negative in it. Just another Obama supporter tactic to avoid the real issues in this campaign, such as experience and plans to actually do something about the problems in this country, areas in which Clinton is much stronger than Obama.

Curiouser and curiouser, you Obama supporters.

As far as I know, Hillary has run her campaign off into a ditch. LOL

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:44 AM on 03/04/2008

Senator Clinton has nothing to hide by witholding her tax returns, as far as I know. And if she said that she never knew that her vote to authorize Bush to go to war with Iraq was indeed a vote to go to war, I will take her at her word. And if she says that John McCain is more qualified to be president than Senator Obama, I will take her at her word. Hillary is a Democrat, as far as I know.

A true leader makes clear, concise answers when the majority of facts at his or her disposal show something to be indisputably true. Her answer should have been empathic. "Those rumors are not true. As far as I know, Barack Obama is a committed Christian." End of answer.

Does she have amnesia and forget that it was HER campaign which had to fire/dismiss campaign workers who were caught sending out false e-mails claiming Barack Obama was Muslim? Clearly she sanctioned that behavior because you don't give an answer like she gives on 60 Minutes if you're truly contrite about what happened. None of this "I don't have a basis to believe otherwise" crap which is clearly intended to instill doubt and leave ample room for rumor and innuendo. How about she "renounce" and "reject" those rumors as she asked of Barack Obama to do to Louis Farrakan?

For something as identifiable as religious faith in Obama's case (i.e. he's regularly attending a church for the last 20 years plus and hasn't even been seen inside a mosque in this country.), you don't have to "take someone at their word". The question was not "Do you believe he's a "good" Christian or a "bad" Christian" where the "I take him at his word" answer would have some merit. The question was essentially asking if she believed Obama was a Muslim or a Christian. Someone elsewhere made a similar analogy that if someone were to ask Obama if he believed Hillary Clinton were heterosexual or the rumors that she was a lesbian and if he were to respond to that question in a manner similar to how Hillary responded to this faith question about him, most would see how disturbing her answer was.

For Christ's sake (pun strongly intended), if she can't give a straight and honest answer to a simple question - she knows EXACTLY the answer the interviewer was looking for- then how do we as citizens expect honesty and straight answers from her to questions on more serious matters? Beyond being a US Senator and the obligations to the truth that office requires as a sworn official of government, Sen. Hillary Clinton the Christian further has a religious duty and obligation to speak STRONGLY to the truth, to reject rumor and innuendo, particularly in a matter that involves _a fellow Christian_ no less. This sort of wavering and political weasling is just plain unacceptable.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:53 PM on 03/03/2008

she did say he wasn't Muslim, Steve Kroft kept asking even after she answered it with a resounding no, he wanted it to be a controversy so he made it one, by asking over and over again. He knew Obama supporters would by the headline, and not watch the actual show.

The MSM want this dance to continue. They will make more money if it is dragged out.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:39 PM on 03/03/2008

I think in a rationale world, where we no longer seem to live, one might recognize that Hillary disputed the rumor as strongly as she could. Unlike George Bush she didn't claim to have looked in Obama's eyes and seen his soul. Does anyone think Hillary has had a deeply personal relationship with Obama that would give her any ability to know anything about his religious beliefs beyond what he has stated? I find her ability to recognize that she is not an "expert" on Obama's personal life very reassuring. Hillary is a strong person that will not be goaded into spouting baloney just to avoid criticism.

Everyone has a deep background check before they get admitted to the Senate. Besides, if you think that both their campaigns don't each have every little bit of information on the other candidate they can get their hands on. Drudge admitted her campaign leaked the pictures of Obama in Kenyan dress (while he was on a Senate Foreign Relations Committee trip) to post on his site. Her campaign staffers were fired for circulating emails claiming Obama was a Muslim. If you think her campaign is not full of dirty tricks, then you are living in a fairy tale.

Right ON. I watched this video and thought, "Um, what exactly is the problem here?" She said no. If I were her, I would have said, "No. Your point?" And that's it. Move on.

Anyway... gotta love Huffington Post's far-left Clinton-lynching brigade.

For the benefit of those not suffering irreversible brain damage:

Q: "You don't believe that Senator Obama's a Muslim?" Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.

A: "Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that," she replied.

Q: "You said you'd take Senator Obama at his word that he's not¦a Muslim. You don't believe that he's¦," Kroft said.

A: "No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know," she said.

Q: "It's just scurrilous¦?" Kroft inquired.

A: "Look, I have been the target of so many ridiculous rumors, that I have a great deal of sympathy for anybody who gets, you know, smeared with the kind of rumors that go on all the time," Clinton said.

For the benefit of those who ARE suffering irreversible brain damage -- or spend all their time searching for anti-Clinton dustbunnies under the living room couch:

"OF COURSE NOT!"

Get it?

"OF COURSE NOT!"

When you're asked the SAME fucking question, over and over again by a reporter who's not happy with your first few answers, you start fumbling for afterthoughts and elaborations in the hope of moving on to the next question.

Geez...

stillamused,
kinda insulting comments to post in your effort to excuse the inexcusable. It seems that you go along with the position that, when being interviewed, you have to 'give him the answer he wants'. How freakin stupid is that? How would such a wimp ever negotiate with other countries over state matters? Is this the candidate that would have us believe that she is the best one to catch the 3:00 AM 'red phone' call and handle it? In answer to your 'irreversible brain damage' query, the brain less have no fear and no clue!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:44 PM on 03/03/2008

Oh my god, can't you read. How many times could she answer no, he isn't a muslim. I fear for this country if someone you support gets elected. Reason and sanity don't seem to be something you are familiar with, either that, or you are just an out and out liar, and don't know how to act when the truth confronts you in the face.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:35 AM on 03/04/2008

You just demonstrated why otherwise intelligent candidates have to contort themselves when dealing with the press... so zealous morons like you, laying in the bushes with your stethoscopes, won't pick up something you can foam about.

It probably hasn't dawned on you that the rules for dealing with press sharks are a little different than the rules of diplomacy. In the latter case, a head of state doesn't have to worry about playing to the dimwits in the peanut gallery.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:18 AM on 03/04/2008

I don't think so, you are allowed to repeat yourself. The answer is no, that's not so hard to understand, is it? Even you, Mr Kroft, should be able to grasp a simple no.

Innuendo versus Transparency

Senator Clinton has been excelling at innuendo as of late. Witness her comments last night on 60 Minutes, where she said that Senator Obama was not a Muslim, "as far as I know".

Now today, she has launched another negative TV ad, insinuating that Senator Obama is "all talk, no action" because he hasn"t convened a subcommittee meeting yet BUT his subcommittee does not deal with Afghanistan but with Europe.

And then, we have the Clinton campaign stating that there is "Buyers" Remorse" setting in with Senator Obama.

So, let"s examine what "Buyers" Remorse" may look like later this year when Senator Clinton and her husband FINALLY release their tax returns for 2007.

Is the reason why her campaign hasn"t released 2005 and 2006 because they don"t want us to see what stocks they had accrued and had to sell in order for her to run for President? They don"t want any reporter to follow the trail of all the Lobbyist and Corporate connections?

Her supporter, Governor Strickland ran his gubernatorial campaign against someone who didn"t disclose his tax returns.

Isn"t that just a wee bit hypocritical that he can win the Governor"s office on that stance BUT would back someone for President who has NOT or will NOT?

If I were Senator Clinton I would be DEEPLY concerned about the innuendo of "All hat, no cattle", as after her "win fall" in the "cattle commodities market", she certainly has no place to hang that hat.

The real Buyers" Remorse will come when the press gets their hands on those tax returns.

Yee Haw!

Before you can even rent a house, buy a home or even open a bank account, one must present his/her financial records. Why is Hil allowed to run further while campaigning without having to do what most Americans have to do? Why is she given a free ride in this area? Hil should be read the rights that apply to rules for Americans. Where is her example? This is what I call all hat and no cattle. Where is the beef? She needs to show this now or get off the bus. This would not have gone half this far if it was Obama. Where is her faith? People who dont belong to a church but just show up at one to get hand outs are scary people. Who knows the demeanor if that funding stops? Huh? We need to get real and get honest here. The same rules are not applied to Hil ;that are applied to Obama. She should not be given this free ride another hour. Let's get together and put the foot down . Cut off the red phone. stop the sleaze about other candidates and the media should not be allowed to include her in anymore free time until she has complied with the rules of this campaign. Stop this bus clinton, McCain drama.. Go Obama, you are the best one for 08

From blogger "PJay"
I decided to post from the link:

'Did I say Osama? I meant Obama!' says Clintonite

by James Oliphant

A lawyer in a predominantly Democratic suburb of Cleveland relates this tale to The Swamp on the day before the all-important Ohio primary:

So last night around dinner time, the phone rings. It"s the Hillary campaign"official number, per the caller ID. The woman on the other end asks me if Hillary can count on my support Tuesday. I say I have not decided.
She asks what would help me decide. I say, "Well . . . maybe she can make Bill her vice president." She does not know how to take me, of course, but has to assume I am serious. "I don"t think she can do that." "Bill will have a significant role in major decisions, though, won"t he?" I ask. "Oh, certainly he will be very involved. Do you like Bill?" "Very much." I reply.

She then launches into a two-minute spiel on all the very specific initiatives and proposals Hillary has put forth on health care, the war in Iraq, etc., etc. At the end of her spiel, she says, "And we haven"t heard anything that specific from Osama bin Laden."

I say, "You did not just say that." She replies, "I"m sorry . . . just a slip of the tongue." She then thanks me for my time and encourages me to vote for Hillary on Tuesday.

The lawyer says he was "stunned" and tells The Swamp the call originated from the Clinton campaign in Columbus. Are the dirty tricks ramping up as we get down to the wire? Swamp readers in Ohio and Texas, relate your own encounters with the Clinton or Obama campaigns if you've had them.

We don't really know if that call was made by a Clinton volunteer or an Obama supporter trying to stir up trouble for the Clinton camp. I am a volunteer caller for the Clinton campaign. We were strongly directed to be courteous and polite to all of the voters and not to be pushy. Also, with respect to strong Obama supporters, we have been asked not to engage in trying to persuade them of otherwise. So to be brief, I find it very hard to believe that this is going on from Clinton volunteers. Also, there are people walking around monitoring how we engage the voters on the phone. But we can't stop someone from doing something so underhanded against the Clinton Campaign. They have been doing it all along anyway. I have received menacing e-mails from Obama supporters calling me names and other details i won't mention. So, I am sharing my story too, like you but not from Ohio and Texas, but from New York where the calls were made to Ohio over the weekend and Hillary's home state.

I love Barack Obama for remaining on message and not attacking the Clintons. And I really do hate negative campaigning BUT how I wish that there was someone to really, really call out these people for what and who they are - DIRTY, UNSCRUPULOUS POLITICIANS. I am heartily sick and tired of Hilary Rodham Clinton and her husband Bill Clinton. I used to love Bill Clinton but now he disgusts me. Waffling on whether Barack is a Christian. Trying to leave the impression out there that she has doubts. She makes me want to puke.
She loses Iowa, cried and then won New Hampshire, employed dirty tricks to "win" Nevada, used racist tactics in South Carolina, pitted Blacks against Latinos in California (and now in Texas), squandered all of her money, fired her manager, "loaned" her campaign $5m, did not have a plan for after Super Tuesday, lost 11 straight contests, will not release her tax return and then when the press reports and discuss all of that claims that they are being too hard on her. Trying to get the press to after Obama which they, like lap-dogs are all too eager to do. The press which gave and is giving her and her husband a free pass, gave and is give GWB and Dick Cheney free passes are now prepared to dump on Obama about Rezko and Farrakan. The only light in all this darkness is the conduct of Barack Obama. He has remained classy and unruffled. Has run a campaign that is the best political campaign I have ever seen or read of.

I am proud of you Barack Hussein Obama! I cannot wait to call you the President of the United States of America.
Maria Hussein.

Seriously what a breath of fresh air Obama is vs Clinton. She knows he is a practicing christian but will continue to fear the people into voting for her. As if being Muslim would be a reason to not vote for someone in America. I really don't want that perspective in office.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:11 PM on 03/03/2008

I think a lot of people are missing a bigger point here. This is bigotry. A presidential candidate has resorted to public displays of bigotry to win the nomination.

There is nothing wrong with being a Musilm. An someone who is an American who has repeatedly had to defend his Christianity, and his love for this country it just plain out wrong for her to do this.

She claims media bias, but I see totally bias for her. How come the news is barely talking about the fact that her campaign has not only injected race in to this campaign, but has now resorted to bigotry. Right in the damn public.

I don't care how capable, or tough she thinks she is. I do not want a bigot or a racist, or someone so desperate to win being in charge of my country.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:46 PM on 03/03/2008

Um. The reporter ASKED her the moronic question in the first place. She didn't volunteer the info. And she said "NO." A few different ways.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:17 AM on 03/04/2008

You are right on and it makes me so sad that in this 21st century, we still have SO much bigotry.
SNL proved that beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I think Muslims around the world are owed a huge apology.
Clinton agrees that using Hussein and implying that he may be Muslim is a smear.
So sad.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:13 PM on 03/03/2008

Did you stupid idiots even read the article or watch the video?
She said he was not a Muslim. What do you want her to do ? It is not her fault that its causing a problem for people. He put on the garb and took the pictures. He has to deal with all of the ramifications which stem from his decisions. This is like the fight between Rosie and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Elizabeth took Rosie to task and told her clearly, "It is not my job to defend your words/actions. They are your words you defend them." Clinton does not have to defend his religious beliefs or habits or actions regarding the Muslim garb. Why does he swear allegedly on his own Bible? Why not show it and shut up critics once and for all? Obama is the one who should defend himself. He got himself in this mess and he needs to be getting himself out of it, because the numbers I heard tonight are not going to ensure a victory over McCain in an election, should he be the nominee. The conservatives are going to fight tooth and nail to make sure he does not even come close. So if you all think Hillary is the cause , you are misguided fools. He, Obama, is at fault. Who are you all going to blame if Hillary is out of the picture? His pet dog?? Let us not even talk about the purchase of his home and property for three hundred thousand dollars lower than the market price or the fact that Tony Rezko's wife is his neighbor. Put it all together and what do you get? A bunch of unanswered issues for the repubs to probe into-with a vengeance. Do not even be dumb enough to think they won't. Now the religious Jews have issues with Obama for not outright rejecting Farrakahn, but rather denouncing him. He thought that this would not bite him on the ass, but it will big time. The New York Post today published an article 'Barack'-lash by Jews:Dov written by Fredric U. Dicker fredric.dicker@nypost.com which specifically states" why Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind, an Orthodox Jew, whose Borough Park district includes the largest Hasidic Bloc in the United States, blasted Obama for for what he calls his half-hearted support of Israel and his ties to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who has repeatedly praised anti-semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who endorsed Obama." Hikind also stated that "Jewish voters would make a mass movement toward Sen. McCain if Obama knocks Hillary out of the race." Therefore, if I were Obama I would stop listening to his camp. and pollsters and start trying to repair the severe damage he has caused his campaign because Jewish people collectively have been through a great deal in history and they are not going to jeopardize their hard earned standing in this world by siding with someone who isn't on their side. Food for Thought.

As far as she knows?

John McCain was classier on the subject when Cunningham dissed Obama at his rally.

Of course, as far as she knew, there was no problem giving Bush authority to go to war in Iraq either.

As a woman, I want a woman president, and I know there is sexism in this world. But it plays right into the sexism when a woman sulks, whines, and in general behaves in this kind of petty manner.
