COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hillary Rodham Clinton finally had a confetti night. The Democratic presidential hopeful claimed victory in the Ohio primary Tuesday night and said that means, "We're going strong and we're going all the way."

Confetti rained down on her Ohio rally as she took the stage. She told the crowd her performance was a victory for everyone who's been "counted out but refused to be knocked out."

She and Barack Obama were in a tight race in Texas as she spoke, and her claim of Ohio victory had yet to be affirmed. Earlier, Clinton broke Obama's winning streak by taking Rhode Island, after Obama was declared the winner in Vermont.

Despite the turn of fortune, Clinton's still got an uphill fight to overcome Obama's lead in delegates.

I left Tuesday morning early to go catch a plane and teach my class in another state. One of my doctoral students picked me up at the airport and I went immediately to the University for meetings and to teach my seminar. The students (mostly PhD students) brought their laptops. We have gotten into the habit of screaming when an primary victory is called. The students are overwhelmingly Obama supporters. The only contest that was called by the time class was over was Vermont. Everyone left happily. Another doctoral student picked me up and took me back to my hotel where I worked on her dissertation as we watched election returns. We both were totally bummed out --- she showed me some photos that the Clinton campaign had doctored to play an OJ ...
Meanwhile back at the ranch ... my daughter flew in from school for break (criss crossing me) .. her dad picked her up at the airport and then she went out with a friend whose parents are from Eqypt ... they were all depressed about the election returns. The friend commented "when will I be considered fully apart of America?" My husband., could not answer ...
The next morning I woke up at 3:30 AM to catch an early flight home --- a bunch of my son and daughter's friends were flying in for Langarado in the Big Cypress Swamp ... I had a layover in Texas it was the last state I wanted to be in that day ... I went outside to smoke a cigarette ... because I fly cross country weekly I am automatically upgraded to first class ... there are two entrance lines in the DFW aiport ... The normal passenger line is usually more crowded ... and this very boisterous very large blonde woman with high hair tried to butt in front of me (I was supposed to go first because I was on the first class line) ...I was tired and said, "excuse me --- bitch" The TSA employees laughed it off ... because she was so aggressive and frankly way too boisterous with a voice that could have woken the dead ... she had a big Hillary button on her amply endowed chest ... she went over to the TSA employee who was a black woman and said "honey, you will be wanting one of these now." The woman accepted it ... after she pushed her way through security the TSA employee then spit on the button and stepped on it loudly to crush it in half." It made me feel a bit better ...
When I got home I took my daughter for camping supplies she was livid and I have never heard her talk trash ... she called Senator Clinton all sorts of names including the C word ... she also said she hoped South Park would run week long snuke episodes .... My son and some of their other friends drove here and then we picked up some other kids at the airport ... the dinner table discussion was both depressed and animated and filled with anger, sardonic wit, and historical accuracies surrounding the Clinton administration, Senator Clinton etc ... after dinner I went to my room and began to think about her victory .... I have a feeling it may be a Pyhrric one ... there is justifiable anger at her techniques and the lies and misinformation, disinformation spread by her campaign and their surrogates .. there is anger at what my husband and children and their cohorts called the intellectually inferior who lack a critical consciousness .. they (and some of them work for unions now) said they no longer romanticize the possibility of a thinking working class ... I told them what I had told me students the night before there is no working class at least that is working ... and indeed, there may well be no left left in the Democratic party and certainly not once the Clinton's have their way ... Ironically in class we were reading the Makings of the English Working Class this week ... again the students in my class reiterated the anger and disdain for the lies told, the gullibility of people, and the short historic memory that Americans seem to have ...
I wonder if the Clinton's campaign continues to use methods that are at best reprehensible at worst make some of Bush's games seem like a picnic in the park if they realize what they are doing? Can they be that short sighted in their scorched earth mentality? Do they realize the level of anger ... and that they have lost and that many people will never support the Clintons' again? Do they realize much as Bill Clinton appropriated the words "never again" when he went to Rwanda for a genocide he helped precipitate that there are many who will never have faith in the Democratic party and will never vote for someone whose techniques have played to the lowest common denominator in human beings, and that in essence the games they played made many vote against their class interests? Do they realize what they have done? My daughter said as we were out shopping for camping supplies: "if that w***e becomes president ... it will be impossible for another woman to become president --- pretty much forever ...?" And, I said to her "doesn't matter do you realize what kind of country you will be inheriting?"

george bush 2 and co. are among the smartest people who ever lived -- as evidenced by the current state of the democratic party. read (nee, hear) me out: look at the chronology from '96 until now. a largely neocon movement belabors the lewinsky and whitewater mess and spurs the biggest shift in house control (to the republicans) that lasts for 10 years; the unattractive aspects of clinton's presidency are used as a selling point for bush "we'll restore morality" jr.; 9/11 was used not to galvanize the public against a common enemy, but largely to exploit the remaining house democrats' national-security impotency; 2004 introduced a new breed of democrat afraid of appearing militarily "weak" and the dreaded, fearful "color coding." and having lost faith in dems, many left-leaning voters stay home. enter the 2008 race, and now that democrats have been presented with a golden opportunity on a platter: republican president with average 25% approval, sour economy, unpopular war, subpar "already won" republican presidential candidate, and a public that's providing record fundraising amounts and votes to best the neocons -- what do they do? they're spending money, time and voter loyalty by slugging it out between each other. i don't care which candidate you blame, but clearly the democrats are proving to be every bit of what republicans accuse them of being: disorganized, weak and incapable of leadership.

To every Democrat who is considering voting for McCain if their candidate is not the nominee:

..../slap... what's the matter with you?!?!? You are not seeing the big picture if John McCain is the next President of the United States!

First of all, a McCain victory validates the Bush administration, a group of people who should be in leg irons. McCain has pretty much promised more of the same if he is elected. More war, no energy alternatives, higher healthcare costs, lower salaries for the working class, etc. etc. etc.

And there is something else that you are forgetting, and this is crucial. THE SUPREME COURT!!! It is very likely that two or more justices will retire between 2008-2016, and those will be the ones with a more liberal stance. Ginsberg has cancer, Kennedy is like 85 years old (?), and there may be another in there who is very old. You give McCain control of the nominees and you are talking about a conservative majority in the Supreme Court, serving corporate interests instead of your interests, for at least a generation.

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT?!?!?

So go ahead, argue, debate, promote your candidate. But when it's all over you must all come together under the same banner, and do the right thing for yourself, your families, and for your country. Fascism has taken hold in the US and, as was predicted, it has come in the form of a flag and a cross. We only have ourselves to blame if we don't take it back starting in November.

If a black man is to be President, I'm sure a woman president will follow shortly. Likewise, if a female is our next President, an African-American will follow! Swallow your pride, and do the right thing!

Conservatism IS DEAD. It was dead when Reagan ran on it. How "conservative" was the re-idiot-licans during 2001 and 2006 when they controlled all branches of government? Lets see...yea...that's right...there wasn't a spending budget Bush DIDN"T sign. Conservative? Not in the least.

Conservatism is a lie. Every budget has grown from every administration from Nixon to Georgie Jr. Every budget. Smaller government? Yea right...just by making the federal agents conduct security at airports IS an increase in the federal government...and guess who gets to pay all those employees?...the TAX PAYERS...we pay their salaries and ALL government employees...and that goes for the military too...the largest "social program" in the US. Yes, 51% of all tax dollars goes to military spending. Free medical, free dental, free education, housing allowances, any products bought on military instilations are tax exempt. Yes military spending is the largest welfare program in America.

Hey cooperate America...start paying for the military like the rest of us!

Thank you thank you for the picture and sorry I missed it this morning. What a lie! Haven't seen him again? Really? What about Jack Abramhoff who gave Clinton and many other in congress money both Republicans and Democrats and he was found guilty. He did more wheeling and dealing lobbying than any one ever to hit congress. I don't hear her talking about that. She and others gave the money to charity just like Obama. Everyone is aware of the various investigations the Clintons endured, Whitewater, etc and they came on camera many times asking the public not to judge them and the special proscutor just kept pushing. It's amazing that she has a different take when it's convenient. I believe the American paid upward of 40 million dollars for one of the investigations. It's amazing how soon we forget. Especially when Sen Obama has clearly not been linked as confirmed by all accounts to this man. One of the Clintons a woman Susan something went to Prison for many years because she refused to corporate with the prosecutor. They had been friends for 20+ years and now she talks about association? That's why the polls say most Americans don't trust her with good reason.

Congratulations to Hillary and Billary on you victories last evening. What will you do now that you still cannot win the Democrats nomination for President of the United States?
Barack Obama can't either. Will you steal the nomination just as Geo. W Bush did with the presidential election against Al Gore.
If Gore and Edwards ever come out of the support closet now is the time. Whichever way it is.
Again Ms. Clinton, congrats on last night.

I am sorry I tried to fight it and give Hilary a break. Not listen to all the criticism that everybody hate her, but the arrogance of her and campaign makes me sick. She use the fear card to scare up votes, even though she has ZERO national security experience to speak of. whining that the media treats her unfair, but as anyone even Clinton supports know damn well that if Clinton won 11-12 straight contest that everyone would have wrote Obama off. Eveything about her camping makes me sick. Then this "we win the IMPORTANT states crap. I live in Minnesota are you saying Minnesota dose not matter? We are the longest voting Democratic state in the union we didn't even vote for Ronald McDonald. Are you saying Missouri doesn't matter? Illinois, Wisconsin and 20 other some odd states don't matter? Screw you Senator Clinton.

Hillary's record of readiness:
Whitewater land deal-gate, Norman Hsu - Hillary"s top campaign contributor, Norman Hsu, was exposed as a felon and a fugitive from justice in 2007. Hsu pleaded guilt to one count of grand theft for defrauding investors as part of a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme. Rose Law Firm, Files-gate, travel-gate, schedule "gate, tax return " how did you become kabillionaires so recently and quickly? cattle futures-gate, donations from firm rife with sexual harassment-gate, $44,000 profit on a $2,000 investment in a cellular phone franchise deal-gate, contributions from drug smugglers, Mark Penn's ties to Blackwater-gate, Johnny Chung, pardons for cash-gate, Castle Grande , Bill"s financial ties to the emir of Dubai. Bill was paid $10 million for his connections.
Her verbatim defense on most of these scandals??? "Whatever mistakes she might have made, she says, were the result of naivete."

Delegate math still not in her favor. True statement, but let's get real folks. She wins where it counts and where it will count come November. BE REALISTIC. If BO is rejected in the larger states, what good does it do us if he is the nominee and McCain wins?

Heard some conservative talk radio heads yesterday going off about Rezko, Ayers, and then MAnn Coulter spewing what will be the typical crap about Michelle Obama. We need to realize the general population has not heard all this before, and the right will continue with this drumbeat.

Seems to me it's time to make that Clinton-Obama ticket so they can use their strength against the spin. And again, Obama will then have the necessary experience to take over the presidency and Democratic rule for 16 years will yield some wonderful results.

And please don't go off about Clinton's Iraq vote and Obama's 2002 speech, as we'll then have to take into consideration Obama's 2004 speech when he said he was not experienced enough to run for president.

Think logically, not emotionally.

I still don't see Hillary as the more experienced candidate. She has a longer record of being wrong on more issues if that counts. She has a longer record of being involved in more scandals. She is not a good choice.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:03 PM on 03/05/2008

Not at all. But it appears you're only seeing the will of half of the Democratic voters. There are plenty of Clinton supporters and you have to see that or I wonder about your common sense (and I mean that respectfully). I can't help but sense that you are not thinking, but feeling, and that is not a way to win the presidency.

The party is split on these 2 candidates; not everyone is voting Obama.

so after she humiliates herself by spreading lies on him he is just supposed to fall for the reverse LBJ?

Are you crazy?

I would rather he run Indy first he can win.

Also, If hillary wins the big states she won them against a DEM not a REP buddy.

OBAMA crushes Mcain hand down, with hillary its close. I think he could beat her.

People hate CLINTON and they have multiple reasons.

I'm sensing emotion here.

Exactly what lies did she spread?

And as for an Indy ticket, you're joking, right? That will split the Dems and again, McCain comes out the winner.

It's not necessarily so that he would beat McCain. Dribs and drabs of Obama's history are make it into the press now and that will not stop any time soon. The public (those folks that voted for Bush) will buy into the negativity, and McCain will win handily over Barack.

You might hate Clinton, others might too, but you have to see that half the Democratic people in the nation are still choosing her.

Again, use your head, not your heart.

Obama has led this race since Day 1 and continues to lead. Hillary is ecstatic over picking up 10-15 delegates. Some people are easily impressed with themselves.

She's come along way from declaring herself the "inevitable" candidate to the point where such a small victory can be portrayed as monumental. The most famous woman in the country has enough votes to continue to pretend she can win!

Well the delegate math may not appear in her favor right now, but the popular vote may be at some point, especially if Florida and Michigan are included. Then who won't be doing things in a democratic way?

from Judicial Watch:
In addition to her long and sordid ethics record, Senator Hillary Clinton took a lot of heat in 2007 " and rightly so " for blocking the release her official White House records. Many suspect these records contain a treasure trove of information related to her role in a number of serious Clinton-era scandals. Moreover, in March 2007, Judicial Watch filed an ethics complaint against Senator Clinton for filing false financial disclosure forms with the U.S. Senate (again). And Hillary"s top campaign contributor, Norman Hsu, was exposed as a felon and a fugitive from justice in 2007. Hsu pleaded guilt to one count of grand theft for defrauding investors as part of a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme.

Of course, voters in South Carolina and elsewhere may remember she didn't even THANK them for supporting her if the state didn't go in the "win" column.

Then again, those were the "unimportant voters" in "unimportant states", right?
