LOS ANGELES — Sheryl Crow says she'll soon be singing with Fleetwood Mac, a move sure to give new life to the classic rock band, which hasn't toured in several years.

"I don't want to make any official announcements, but I will say that we definitely have plans for collaborating in the future, and we'll see what happens," Crow told the AOL music Web site Spinner.com in a story posted Thursday.

The 46-year-old singer didn't give a date, but said it could happen next year.

She's already thinking about what she'd like to perform. "I'd love to do `The Chain,' I'd love to do `Second Hand News,'" Crow said.

Crow said she looked forward to working with friend Stevie Nicks.

"I think the person I learned the most hands-on from is Stevie Nicks because she allowed me not only to co-write with her but also to produce her, and she's a true artist," she said.

Crow would give the band and Nicks a boost. According to Spinner.com, Nicks had said she wouldn't continue with Fleetwood Mac without keyboardist Christine McVie, who retired from touring in 1998. McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 shortly after marrying the band's bass guitarist, John McVie.

Fleetwood Mac last toured in 2004.

Crow is currently touring after the release of her latest album, "Detours."

Phone and e-mail messages left with representatives for Fleetwood Mac and Crow were not immediately returned.

Too bad Christine has hung it up. She had a great voice. I can't see where Sheryl Crow would be an equivalent replacement, as Christine had a smooth bluesy voice, and Crow's more of a pop crooner. That's not to say she can't contribute; perhaps a new CD of songs with her integrated into it could yield some worthy material. If they're all friends and get along, then all the better.

What would be cool, is get Peter Green to at least be an opening act. I know Peter's rather cold about his FM days but at least open up for the band! Peter, you still have fans and that's one way you could be supported for a tour, for them. How 'bout Jeremy Spencer, too? He's been playing around again and seems to be in pretty good shape.

I've got most of the Midnight Special TV show DVDs, and there's one with Fleetwood Mac from just before the Rumors album, and the song that Christine sings lead on, "Over My Head", she doesn't look very happy at all, while singing. There was no hiding it. That was when her & John were having "trouble". It must be hard for her to get over all the crap that went on with the band. Some people do, some people don't. That's just the way it goes.

Just bought Sheryl's new album on iTunes. (Yes, I'm just a real person, posting.) It's a great record. Pick's a fight with George Bush on one song. Great music.

Can't stand Crow; nothing but a pop star. Haven't liked Fleetwood Mac since Peter Green left.

Brilliant retort, wedgie. Go give yourself one if you think everyone should have the same opinion. Crow is lame.

All of you Crow fans, Google Kevin Gilbert. Maybe you won't like her quite so much when you learn how she got to the point where you heard her.

Sheryl Crow is overrated. Another example of someone who is successful because she is attactive, not because she has real talent.

Nine-time Grammy winner. Yeah. Lacks talent. What an embezzle!!! What an ultramaroon!!! She certainly is an eyeful, but an ignoranomous like you probably uses that as a rejection meter (I have a feeling that one look at you would explain a lot). Guess what? NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE! What do you think of Stevie Nicks, by the way???

I just think Sheryl's voice sounds strained when she sings, And I think her "hits" are mindles pop ditties (Soak up the sun? That's a real classic.). I am a Stevie fan though. She has a unique persona and song style. The lyrics of many of her songs make no sense, but she is great to listen to.

By the way...winning awards doesn't necessarily mean you have talent. Jennifer Aniston won an Emmy for God's sake. Go back and watch a Friends rerun. She couldn't have possibly won based on acting aility.

Cheryl Crow is very good but I am very skeptical of Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie.

This is a fair comment -- La Belle McVie was integral to a very unique harmony, and harmonies are something that needs to be tried to appreciated. Ever notice how great sibling groups sound, or how great Steve Miller's harmonies were because he sang all the parts? There usually is something similar in the resonances that bring out great harmonies. Great voices that sing together do not necessarily produce stirring harmonies (e.g., The Three Tenors). Ms. Crow has all the chops, but her solo voice is not at all like Christine McVie's -- we'll all just have to wait until she sing on "The Chain", "Second Hand News", "Go Your Own Way" (check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNM6IuA87eM -- AMAZING harmonies, and live!)

I'm surprised anyone would want to play with Sheryl's stank ass after her one square of toilet paper comments.

Poor T.Roll . How sad that you were born without a sense of humor or the acumen to detect irony and sarcasm.

Poor T.Roll!

Anyone with a sense of humor would consider it, since she was lampooning her own small green-footprint lifestyle. Sheesh!

Personally, I'd rather see Crow tour with a re-united GENTLE GIANT, or maybe HENRY COW.

Now, THOSE were BANDS!
