As he prepares to assume New York State's highest elected office, Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson is getting plenty of attention from the Democratic candidates for president.
Since Wednesday, when Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced he would resign, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and her rival for the nomination, Senator Barack Obama, have both called to congratulate Mr. Paterson, who will be one of just two black governors in the nation.
