Whoops! Joe Scarborough Caught Eating In Opening Of "Race For The White House"

You can take him out of his trademark pullover and dress him up in a shirt and tie, but you can't take the casual morning feel out of "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough. In the opening segment of the premiere of "Race for the White House" — David Gregory's new show and the canceled Tucker Carlson's replacement in the 6 p.m. time slot — Joe tried to sneak a bite while Rachel Maddow spoke — and he got caught.

It was a Starbucks Espresso Brownie, Joe tells HuffPost, and says, "Now I eat during commercials."

Listen to the rustling of the packaging during the first ten seconds below, and check out Joe's face when he realizes he's been caught:

Cookie? Donut?

I can't stand him! He is one of the Pundits that Barack was referring to in his speech. Joe said this am that Obama will lose, it seems that he and Tucker Carlson are hoping that this happens. It's a tiresome viewpoint that preys on some people's fears....saying things and trying to persuade voters to vote the way he is spewing. I wonder what qualifies him think he is a reporter? He is a glorified Rush Limbaugh.

I'm glad that Scarborough and Buchanan are on MSNBC, and that Scarborough was on this show because even though they often make me crazy, I want to hear opposing views. My problem with what I've seen so far is that David Gregory wasn't able to control Scarborough (maybe no one could) and he dominated the time. I really like Robinson and I like Maddow, in large part because they are calm and respectful when giving their views. The raised voices, interrupting and talking over everyone else by Scarborough, and by Buchanan on other shows, is really annoying and counter-productive. It's David's show, he needs to take control.

Tonight's show (March 20) was the best so far. Well balanced with Joe, Dee Dee Myers, Eugene Robinson and Ron Brownstein. Dee Dee was very good and didn't ashow favourites in the democratic race. Much more balanced in her comments than Rachel. Ron Brownstein was one of the better commentators who seemed to give a thoughtful view . Eugene is an obvious Obama supporter, while Joe is a McCain or Obama supporter.
All in all, this how seems to be one of the better shows on MSNBC. Matthews is too much in love with Obama to give a balanced view of the race, Oldermann just seems to be getting angrier every day at anyonw not Obama. It's as if he's running for the Press Secretary's job in an Obama White House. Keep him on MSNBC and off NBC Football..please!!!!!

Keith Odormann never eats on the air. In fact, the man hasn't had a bowel movement in over a decade.

Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough need to go. It would be a better show if there was more diversity. Sometimes it's hard for Eugene to get a word in once Pat starts chopping. I don't think David was very good when he auditioned for Imus' slot. I think Rachel Maddow would have been better for that time slot. I still think they need some diversity in these prime time slots. That's why America only gets a taste of certain views and slants on topics! It only comes from one segment of the population, controlling everything!

Joe NEEDS TO GO I agree, but Pat Buchanan is the "comic relief" he is so from the past.

I agree with you. His show is nothing more than a "Fox News Lite" version. It has become clear to all but the most dense that Joe's political agenda of late is to do whatever harm he can to hurt Obama's chances in the Fall while hoping that Clinton somehow manages to survive.

His dream scenario is for the Democrats to have a protracted and bloody campaign process. I'm often forced to just turn his show off in disgust. Apparently, MSNBC is satisfied with attracting whomever they can from the bottom of the barrel over at Murdoch's Fox News channel. I had thought that they hoped to attract that huge and largely untapped (but media-orphaned) political group -- the left-leaning and more moderate audience that has nowhere to turn for love and attention. But based upon what I've been seeing, that simply isn't the case.

Hate the show. It makes no sense. Bring back Tucker Carlson. Dan Abrams is the best thing MSNBC has going. Sometimes Chris Matthews' show can be on target.

As for Joe Scarborough...man he can be on target at times but other times he misses. He had such great potential until he was paired with Mecka Brezenski (sp) in the morning. The show has become a social scene.

HuffPost's Pick

I tried to watch David's show, mostly because I've enjoyed his journalism, and Rachael Maddow, and Eugene Robinson are two of my favorite commentators. (to be honest, I'd prefere to watch them than anyone on MSNBC.)

But the moment Buchanan starts chopping the air with his little hatchet-hands, or when Joe Scarborough begins to suck all the air out of the room, I have to press pause on my DVR. They are so predictable it's not worth enduring their snarling, defensive, divisive, and ignorant diatribes.

I wonder if MSNBC will ever explain why they refuse to sever it's ties to Pat Buchanan?

What was really strange about the show was how wired everyone seemed to be. It was like watching a game show where the contestants have time limit to answer the questions. And the music... it has the effect of making the discussion seemed as though it were scripted. There was one point where Scarborough said something, seemingly planned, and then they shot a graphic up that matched what he said.

If they can ditch the gameshow "conflict driven" narrative I'd give it another chance, but otherwise I'd rather not have to endure more FAUX news then already exists.

If you haven't caught Greenwald's new film about the infection of Fox news on the MSM, you can watch it here:

Limiting the speakers is no worse than having Matthews interrupting and spitting all over the place, throughout the entire show!

MSNBC will always put up with people like Pat Buchanan, Joe Scarborough, and Tucker Carlson for the same reason CNN still keeps Glenn Beck on the air. They're there to provide "balance" and appease right wing critics who claim the media has a liberal bias. Even after having his show cancelled, Tucker is still part of the lineup of pundits. With people like this, I already know what they're going to say which is why I just tune them out. I've even learned to laugh at Pat Buchanan. He sounds like he's living in the 1900s.

I agree with you completely. It can be so very frustrating for those of us - and there are many -- who don't share Buchanan's or Scarborough's take on politics or philosophy. Will the MSM ever embrace the "Left" by acknowledging their views and opinions on a more frequent and consistent basis? It seems so hopeless at times.

...couldn't agree more & thanks for this, 'lovethesinner'. Eugene Robinson is the best - I stop what I'm doing & listen when I see his face on the screen, he speaks brilliant common sense. Rachael Maddow is very good too, but lately she has been trying a bit too hard....hope she doesn't take herself too seriously now.
I tried to tolerate Buchanan because he's such a dorky old man - but he ended my efforts with his latest bombasticness about Senator Obama's pastor. He's just a goofball & he needs to retire now - right now, please, & will he take his sister with him, please?
& here's the truth about Scarborough.....he's a jealous, conceited man. He can't hide his jealousy, it's pathetic! & his kindergarten move of eating during David Gregory's show is proof that he needs to move to an even earlier morning slot....or maybe....just move....away...far,far away....

Love Rachel Maddow, would love to see her paired with Keith O. As for Joe, oh my god Ican't stand this man, he is so full of himself. I think he ate to distract the camera{?} from Rachel I don' t think he's too keen on her. Probably too smart for him.! Mika you look mahvelous, the camera always makes you look good, stop making eyes at the camera and stand up for yourself, use words not sounds. It really is funny show to watch, ego , beauty and poor Willie, your good too.!!! Ah, who cares,???? I wonder when their contracts expire??

Former US Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-FL) is a shill for the right wing. Forget the spin that he is a "journalist with egalitarian disproval" and know that this man surrounds himself with the likes of Tucker Carlson and Pat Buchanan - men who don't even have appendages on the left side of their bodies.

The show is great. It's important to have opposing views, and not in an "Alan Combes"-type way. I don't mind someone with a conservative view, as long as they don't use that view to promote hate. Check out Morning Joe's comments on Bill O'Reilly or John Gibson, and you'll see that his priorities are in the right place.
The show has fun with politics, which is fine. Also, It seems someone told Mika to wear more skirts, not that I am complaining.

Despite Scarborough's munching improperly - David Gregory's new program is great. I only look forward to more.

Morning Joe needs a shake-up. If I have to listen to Scarbourgh talk over Mika anymore I will lose my breakfast. Scarbourgh's constant harping on Rev. Wright is past being news it's Scarbourgh's GOP background coming out to destroy the front-runner in the Dem race. Scarbourgh is a mess!

Dan Abrams, sorry your new show is mess, too. It made me wish for the old days of Tucker Carlson and I never agreed with Tucker.

Thanks "enoughalready", I feel exactly the same way about Scarborough, and Buchanan. They made their point about a month ago, and they've just been repeating it over, and over to the point of nausea.

Andrea Mitchell and Willie Geist sat in for them one week, and it was fabulous. I know Andea isn't likely to take a downgrade, but there was something really unique between her an Willie that seemed genuine and I'm surprised they haven't tried to pair up something like it. It was intelligent, funny, and most of all, devoid of "conflict driven" narrative.

Jon Stewart was right, that "Crossfire" approach to issues is killing us. Literally.

You're right about Morning Joe "talking over Mika." Watching their ego fights each morning is like being the child of constantly bickering parents in a bad marriage. They give me such a headache I can't stand it anymore. I now stick to my cup of joe with the tv off.

Morning Joe was really pretty good in the beginning. I enjoyed Mika's intelligence, and Scarborough's Republican take on things was thoughtful and not overly partisan. They had interesting guests.

Now the show seems to be stuck on stupid. Too much Rev Wright over and over. It is beginning to look like Bill and Monica Lewinsky hugging at the rope line. Joe was even turning beet red while insisting that the Bear Stearns story wasn't that meaningful and the media was responsible for pushing bad economic news.

Keep it up MSNBC and I'll be thinking that you are pursuing the old Imus viewers.
