AP:

The Federal Aviation Administration, under fire for its handling of missed safety inspections at Southwest Airlines Co., said Tuesday it is ordering a check of maintenance records at all U.S. airlines.

The FAA's action applies to records on all planes. FAA inspectors will check to make sure the airlines have complied with orders to perform the type of structural inspections that Southwest missed on some older Boeing 737s.

The FAA hit Southwest this month with a $10.2 million civil penalty for missing the inspections and then continuing to fly the planes with passengers on board even after realizing the mistake. Dallas-based Southwest plans to appeal.

If they weren't checking maintenance before, it can only mean they must have been doing "a heck of a job".

Just now checking for safety issues.... for all airlines.... LOL!!!!!!

On my way down south recently, I flew Northwest..... before landing, the pilot came on the intercom and said that the flaps were not working on the plane, and we were in for a rather rough landing.... Then he said, do not be alarmed when we see all the emergency vehicles parked on the landing strip waiting for us to ...... well, to be blunt..... CRASH LAND!! Needless to say, many people on the plane freaked out.... I had wished I had chosen to have a cocktail instead of coffee.... last time I make that mistake....

Also.... he said that we may need to use the emergency slide to exit the plane and to review the procedure on the what to do in case of emergency card.... the one that pretty much says "Kiss your A** Goodbye"..... and to notice where the emergency exits were.........

After a very, very rough landing.... coming in WAY faster then we should have, we hit the runway hard.... brakes screeching and rubber burning... we did come to a stop near the very end of the run way..... On the way out... they thanked us for flying Northwest and hoped we had a pleasant flight.... AS IF!!!!!

Now if I could only get back my luggage that they lost......

This is news?
The FAA is doing what we pay them to do?
This is exactly what's wrong with the media in America.
Why didn't anyone report that they *weren't" doing what we pay them to do?
WTF?
