Meet The (White) Man Who Inspired Wright's Controversial Sermon

Meet the man who inspired Reverend Jeremiah Wright's now famous tirade about America's foreign policy inciting the terrorist attacks of September 11.

His name is Ambassador Edward Peck. And he is a retired, white, career U.S. diplomat who served 32-years in the U.S. Foreign Service and was chief of the U.S. mission to Iraq under Jimmy Carter -- hardly the black-rage image with which Wright has been stigmatized.

In fact, when Wright took the pulpit to give his post-9/11 address -- which has since become boiled down to a five second sound bite about "America's chickens coming home to roost" -- he prefaced his remarks as a "faith footnote," an indication that he was deviating from his sermon.

"I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday," Wright declared. "He was on Fox News. This is a white man and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true: America's chickens are coming home to roost."

Wright then went on to list more than a few U.S. foreign policy endeavors that, by the tone of his voice and manner of his expression, he viewed as more or less deplorable. This included, as has been demonstrated in the endless loop of clips from his sermon, bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki and nuking "far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye."

"Violence begets violence," Wright said, "hatred begets hatred, and terrorism begets terrorism."

And then he concluded by putting the comments on Peck's shoulders: "A white ambassador said that yall, not a black militant, not a reverend who preaches about racism, an ambassador whose eyes are wide open and is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice... the ambassador said that the people we have wounded don't have the military capability we have, but they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them... let me stop my faith footnote right there."

Watch the video (the relevant material starts around the 3:00 mark):

So it seems that while Wright did believe American held some responsibility for 9/11, his views, which have been described as radically outside the political mainstream, were actually influenced by a career foreign policy official.

Who is Peck? The ambassador, who has offered controversial criticism of Israeli policy in the West Bank but also warned against the Iraq War, was lecturing on a cruise ship and was unavailable for comment. But officials at Peck's former organization, the Council for the National Interest, a non-profit group that advocates reducing Israel's influence on U.S. Middle East policy, offered descriptions of the man.

"Peck is very outspoken," said Eugene Bird, who now heads CNI. "He is also very good at making phrases that have a resonance with the American people. When he came off of that Fox News, a few days later he said they would never invite me back again."

And what, exactly, did Peck say in that Fox News interview that inspired Wright's words?

Here are some quotes from an appearance the Ambassador made on the network on October 11, 2001, which may or may not have been the segment Wright was referring to. On the show, Peck said he thought it was illogical to tie Saddam Hussein to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, and that while the then-Iraqi leader had "some very sound and logical reasons not to like [the United States]," he and Osama bin Laden had no other ties.

From there, Peck went on to ascribe motives for what prompted the 9/11 attacks. "Stopping the economic embargo and bombings of Iraq," he said, "things to which Osama bin Laden has alluded as the kinds of things he doesn't like. He doesn't think it's appropriate for the United States to be doing, from his perspective, all the terrible things that he sees us as having been doing, the same way Saddam Hussein feels. So from that perspective, they have a commonality of interests. But they also have a deeply divergent view of the role of Islam in government, which would be a problem."

When Rev. Wright places blame on America's policies as the cause for the attack on 9/11 (America's chickens are coming home to roost), he is referenceing the 9-11 Report which stated that the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon was to protest the presence of U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia and our support for Israel. Bin Laden pressed Mohammad to stage the attacks as early as mid-2000 after Ariel Sharon offended many Muslims by visiting the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. He tried to accelerate the operation again when he learned Sharon would be visiting the White House in June or July 2001. We have removed our U.S. forces from Saudi Arabia and it would be prudent to stop supporting Israel if that support encourages another terrorist attack on our country!

Bin Laden was not ambiguous about the reasons for the 9-11 attack. We addressed one of his stated reasons – ‘we removed our forces from Saudi Arabia.’ Instead of addressing another stated reason – ‘our support for Israel,’ our freedoms have been diminished through the PATRIOT ACT, which is un-American and citizens are being murdered and abused at airports by security personnel, telephone companies are providing information on customers, i.e., warrantless eavesdropping program for which they are seeking immunity, etc. This is unacceptable! Most of those who are eroding our cherished freedoms didn't fight nor sacrifice for those freedoms. Our freedoms are not theirs to squander.

Well I understand why Faux News did what they did. Why they talked about Obama/Wright issue all the time even when people already knew there was no issue at all. I was listening the other day to Rev. Wright other true sermons (not frauds which cable TVs offered us) and in every one of it he is bashing president and government saying aloud what many people just thinking. So when you put it in context that Faux News is pro-GWB and GOP TV station then result is creating smear against everybody who is against.

What does truth matter to those whom it doesn't serve? When a politician fails to win on merit, it is so eaasy to sell out to Murdock and get his slime machine working for you. It is the largest fake news network in the world, ever ready to put out misleading snippets that are not even complete sentences. (Like the Wright stuff!) When a nation is so ready to be deceived again and again, one has to wonder about it.

Why is anyone still bothering with this fake news medium? Or, for all that, to any of its imitators (the rest of our MSM!) Has everyone forgotten already how they sold the WMDs and the war? Has everyone forgotten all the cover ups for that wonderful leader, George W. Bush? Has everyone forgotten the slime and constant ridiculing aqnd unfunny jokes given out instead of truth about his opponents? If this represents the thinking of our country, we're hopeless. No wonder the dollar has lost half its value since Bush took officed. No wonder we are bogged down in a mess 5 years after "Mission Accomplished." No wonder we are still practicing the same style of politics by deception. And it will be no great wonder that we will continue to follow the same path after the election!

It is not that hard to find truth if you seek it. "Seek and you shall find."

But Sometimes I dispair for my nation. People, are you afraid that what you find might not conform to your prejudice? Then go to . . . . Fox and Rush. They will feed you the crap you must love. You keep eating it up.

Every living thing has to die of something sometime!

This is what people are talking about when they say America is Rasist:

Ignorant Black Church comment. #### LEAD STORY ####
Candidate forced to "denounce comments, requested to leave church"

Ignorant White Chruch comment. ### quick comment, change topic ###
Candidate "does not aggree" but actually sought out the individual who made the comments.

The message here is clear.

The Hagel comments are preferred.

What does this mean?

People should take a look at this. If anyone still believes this Fox News smear....

A visit to Obama's church

March 21, 2008

Thank you for printing the entire text of Barack Obama's Philadelphia speech.

My sister teaches parenting classes and works at the Mom and Me Camp for children with incarcerated mothers at a prison in Lincoln, Ill. She sent this message about Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago.

The former chaplain at the prison, Laurie Tockey, was a seminary student in Chicago and attended TUCC, which was then predominantly black, as it is today. Although he was white, Chaplain Tockey made this his home while in seminary. When he was working in Lincoln before his recent death in a car accident, he started the Mom and Me Camp. Before long, volunteers from TUCC came to help. Each year, more people came. Buses were sent to Chicago to pick up kids from that area, and TUCC people accompanied them to Lincoln and stayed to help with the camp. They have continued to come even after Chaplain Tockey died.

Several years ago, my sister went to TUCC on a Friday night for their celebration of 25 years of prison ministry. The church is on the south side of Chicago and is huge. As part of the service, the men from their church choir sang. There were about 150 men and they processed down the aisle singing, all wearing native African garb. They sat at the front of the sanctuary, singing several times. Jeremiah Wright spoke that night about the prison ministry and what it had meant to this church. For my sister, it was an unforgettable event.

"hate begets hate" yep cant argue with that though ..... what is the suggestion ..... cuddle up to the one who want your blood ???? does anyone really thinks that the likes of Osama bin laden need an excuse in order to attack us ?
and the other thing a second us of mass destruction weapon on japan, the darkest moment in american history, and there was no hate coming back .....

if Barak Obama would not have taken the high ground to proclain he is another type of politician
if him/his wife and some supporters would have not have the attitude of "oh we are so furtunate and thank our luck that he is willing to be the president" my reaction would have been different

for a family who goes to church someone forgot that vanity and arrogance is a sin, my problem with Barak is the same i have with spitzer it is the hypocracy of politicians

If instead of justifying and cheering up everytime the guy farts "wow he is so cleve r" SUPPORTERS" will hold his feet to the fire the canidate will be a better president and maybee his self importance will not make his head to big to get through the door

It is disapointing to find the ttitude of p. Bush "you either with us or against us" being practiced by the same people who despise his policies

While I don't think it was the right response, given the fact the Jesus was radical pacifist, I don't find it shocking that a Christian preacher would say we must turn the other cheek. Jesus was alive and preaching during a time when his country was occupied by a foreign power and his teaching that one must forgive his enemy by turning the other cheek, was a very radical idea.

White people are allowed to say plently of things that people of color aren't .They are allowed to commit crimes without consequences that people of color aren't.They are allowed alumni set asides for their kids while complaining about minority scholarships. They can get together in large groups, drink and act crazy ( tail gate parties etc) without fear of having helicopters called out.If their car breaks down and they need help they can approach strangers. They can go around unshaved and disheved without being given a wideberth. They can say the most radical truths and people don't even blink, especially if they're wearing a suit and not a dashiki.

Black people are revolutionary just by their having survived.... they were'nt s'posed to, once they couldn't be used as free labor anymore. Although they do still provide quit a few prison jobs , so capitalism has found a way to utilize them for profit.

How we see the world:

Our friend Israel lauded the terrorism of Begin, who boasted of being the Father of Terrorism (in the Middle East? NO! ,ha ha!, in the Whole World.) But we saw no wrong in him.
So it has gone since the terrorist Zionists entered under the protection of British guns. They were highly armed and instigated conflict against the natives who were kept disarmed by the same British. (And when the Brits were not sufficiently accomodatinng, Friend Begin and company blew some of their soldiers up. They heroically got the message and got out.)
Since the UK and US forced the creation of Israel on Palestinian soil, against the will of the majority of all the people there, the Zioinists have acted with impunity against international law and the laws of morality, because the US was always willing to sacrifice for them.
The Iraq invasion was ednvisioned in Israel as early as their first invasion of tghen prosperous Lebanon -- for the same purpose. That is, to destroy a stable state and breaking it up into antagonistic pieces. (That was written about by Noam Chomsky in his "Fateful Triangle." The plan expressed by Ze'ev Schiff was to break Iraq into at least three parts. Guess where Biden got his idea!) It was thought to be in Israe's interest to have as much instability as possible, so that they couls expand and have hegemony over the whole region.
Not what your MSM has told you? But you know how truthdful they are; they told you all about those nonexisting WMDs, and helped promote the war. They called one set of Terrorists "Freedom Fighters" and a group of Freedom Fighters "Terrorists." And they are ever so patriotic!
But what is a terrorist exactly? And why do they do such terrible things? The purpose of the terrible things is always to "Shock and Awe" or does that sound too too familiar?
When big governments do it it is for purposes of hegemony. When little men do it, they always tell us -- if we listen -- that they want justice, which has been denied them.

In Afghanistan, when those little men were fighting Russia, they were good freedom fighters. But now that they are fighting us, they are terrorists.

When we were at odds with Russia, Chechen freedom fighters were admired for contrinuing to strive heroically for the independence they have fought for for 500 years. But when Bush fell in loved with Putin, they became Islamic Terrorists.

What's truth? Depends on which way the wind is blowing.

Apparently you've worked out a rationale for anti semitic remarks and screed along with Wright's abominable sermon on 9/11 describing the victims jumping to their death.

He is a loathsome bigot, and Obama has put up with him for 20 years.

Noam Chomsky said it best on TV, Radio and his book 9-11. Google "Noam Chomsky 911" and see for yourselves.

I would attend this church in a second if I lived in Chicago. This is not a hate monger. He's a love monger. How sad it is that the media can so distort a man's words that he can make him look like he was saying the opposite of what he was saying. Not God Damn America. God Bless American but God Damn FOX. God Damn CNN. God Damn MSNBC.
