Bill Clinton: No Revotes Deliberate Attempt To Disenfranchise Voters

Former President Bill Clinton celebrated the Polish holiday Dingus Day in South Bend, IN this morning, rallying Hooisers around his wife Hillary's campaign. Clinton had strong words when talking about the decision not to hold new primaries in Michigan and Florida, saying the decision is "a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise" voters.

"I must say that this new strategy of denying and disempowering and disenfranchising the voters in Florida and Michigan is, I believe, a terrible mistake. Hillary believes their votes should be counted. And I don't know how we're gonna go to those people in the general election and say you gotta vote for us even though we dumped all over you in the primary," Clinton told a crowd at the Westside Democratic Club in South Bend.

Wow.

I didn't like Clinton before because he has always made and followed policies that demonstrated - to my satisfaction - that he is nothing but a corporate lackey.

His earlier approach to Florida and Michigan (namely his endorsement of a penalty-free right to break any voting rule) made me cringe. But I am aware that America has a history of people - some of them dead - with as many as nine arms pulling voting levers, so I just grimaced and thought about the poetic justice of divine intervention.

But now? Encouraging America to doubt the foundations of its very democracy by suggesting that his own Party is attacking them?

The man was never fit to be President - just like Bush, he places his own goals above "government of the people, by the people, for the people".

And I find it very, very difficult to believe that Hillary's core belief system varies greatly from what Mr. Clinton demonstrates in public.

By the way, I find this goofy picture of Hillary Clinton up above offensive and wonder if anyone else does? This is the kind of subtle smear tactic that used by people like Karl Rove to imprint on people"s minds a negative image of someone. It says Google ads on it. Is this posted by the Obama campaign? If yes, where is the politics of hope, the politics of change? If not, Obama supporters should be offended too, because he is implicated in this kind of subtle underhanded campaigning by default.

This is all psychological strategy, sadly. Bill and Hillary would like to make the case that they've been cheated. It's all a mind game. The sad thing is that the American people are so frazzled most of the time, they don't know when they're being led astray; hence a two-term GW. Thinking people are powerful people. It's clear that we prefer not to think.

the ONLY honest position on this is that florida and michigan screwed themselves. they rolled the dice to skip to the front of the line (against stated rules and warnings) and instead they came up snake eyes and have landed at the very end of the line. i remember way back in grade school if you got caught "cutting" in line... you got sent to the back of the line. boo hoo for them but that's life in the big city. and gradeschool. too bad most politicians don't even rise to the intelligence level of kindergarteners.

Just because the results don't suit the Clintons, change the rules to get the result they want.

Allowing a revote would not be against the rules

It wasn't up to Obama though, amigo. It was a complicated issue, and the state leaders couldn't find a way to resolve it. May I remind that Hillary refused to allow caucuses, back when people were saying that they were the only way it would happen (due to their low cost and reasonably simple planning requirements.)

Why should the Democrats of Florida be penalized because a Republican state senate moved the voting date to a time that was unacceptable to the DNC?

hey that's not true! do you know that? do you know that isn't true, when you say that? When you say words that are not true, do you know it? that is not true, and I think you know it. No hard feelings, but you should try to speak truly.

It is a shame the people of PA believe Hillary Clinton after all those lies she told and continue to tell. I thought the state I was raise in were smarter than that.

no reason to attack PA's intelligence! We need PA, and darn it we like them. least you can do if you support Obama is be gracious about it. It is a shame that Hillary seems to be very dishonest. But she is under a lot of stress right now and her campaign is falling apart. So be nice, PA can do what it wants.!

Latest poll I saw says hillary has over 60% of the female vote (more than half the registered Dems are women) in PA, while ahead with 53%. So perhaps you can narrow down the attack on people's smarts to receive and process all the clinton nonsense along gender lines?

What a hypocrite! The Clintons have dismissed the importance of votes from the smaller states.

Let's try this one more time. All candidates agreed to the same set of rules. Michigan and Florida moved their primaries up knowing full well that the DNC warned them they would lose their delegate seats if they did.Obama had nothing to do with any of this and he'd be a fool to let the clintons change the rules mid-game. I used to respect the clintons though I was never a fan. Now I have nothing but contempt for them and for anyone who can still support these egomaniacl neoCon cheerleaders. The DNC and party elders better squash these reprobates now, while the still have a party to worry about.

The DNC disenfranchised these voters before primary season. What is Bill's point? Hillary made no objection to this at the outset of the primaries. These are awful people--Bill should find Elliot Spitzer, hire a platoon of hookers and get lost.

hey, that's a little extreme isn't it? Look, it's a bit comical that the Clintons are ending this ignomiously, and flailing a bit, but why the insults. Don't be so insulting, no matter who you support.

Where is the DNC in all this? Go to their website and see if you can find any news about FL/MI. The DNC set the rules and now they are invisible and allowing their candidates to slug it out between them. These rules were set by the DNC and agreed to by all the candidates. The blame should be placed on the dysfunctional DNC!

In November because of the pent up frustration of the Florida and Michigan Democratic voters, they will take the one opportunity to finally make their vote count and to have a voice in this process. I predict a record turnout for Dems in November for both Florida and Michigan. The idea that adhering to the rules will suppress turnout in November is just more disgusting Clinton propaganda.
