Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) hints at some behind-the-scenes activity to bring the Democratic nomination race to a close:

Q: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?

Reid: Easy.

Q: How is that?

Reid: It will be done.

Q: It just will?

Reid: Yep.

Q: Magically?

Reid: No, it will be done. I had a conversation with Governor Dean (Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean) today. Things are being done.

Washington Monthly's Kevin Drum adds, "My mind is now at rest. Thanks, Harry."

Once in a sudden Reid can make decisions? What him and Pelosi couldn't do since they got elected ,
now he is firm and says things are being done to try to practically force a major candidate to drop out of the race, whether her supporters like it or not. No , Mr. Reid , that's not how it is being done.

The Democrats need to end the superdelegate quagmire as soon as possible. The answer to the superdelegate question is easy, simple, and fair. Simply add half of the superdelegate vote to each candidate's total. This neutralizes them and lets the votes of the other delegates (the people) decide the race. It also ends the race sooner, probably far ahead of the convention, and lets the winner (the people's winner) get on with fighting McCain. If the Democrats don't adopt this plan they are wasting time, effort, money, and the good will of American voters. If you like this plan please post it anywhere you can think of and try to convince the party to get out of this mess of its own making. And of course dump the superdelegates first thing when they hit Denver.

I didn't make much of this story until I picked up a local paper and read a story mentioning the 'possibility' that Rory Reid (Harry's son & a big Clinton fan) interfered with the Clarke County NV convention; here's the article in case you want to read it:

Yeah, right, Harry. If every single party leader told Hillary Clinton to pull out now or she'll wreck the party, she'd tell them to go fuck themselves, because her personal goals and the party's goals are unrelated. She wants this nomination at any cost; she's basically Swimfan.

While I'm sure Harry is telling the truth, I still can't shake the impression that he's one of the most feckless twits in the Democratic Party. But let's hope things ARE being done. We need to end this. Hillary can't POSSIBLY win.

"Things are being done." Just what the country needs - more smoke-filled-room politics, and the democratic process being shut down.

Pushing one or the other of the candidates out of the race will KILL THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Don't they see that? The last thing they need at this point is half their base thinking their candidate didn't get the shot she deserves. If Obama or Clinton wins fairly, then who can fault the victor? But if it's decided in back rooms and Clinton is forced out, you'll see a lot of really disgruntled Democrats who will stay home instead of going out to vote on a chilly November morning.

And "things are being done" by the party leadership to insure that the Dems lose again. I might be able to support an Obama ticket but not if the primary process is ended by force.

Hillary, you can choose your spouse. Millions walk away from their spouses. Why didn't you divorce Bill after he cheated on you? I wouldn't stay with a spouse that cheated on me. And, you are supposed to be representing women?

graviton, please tell me just two simple things: #1-what does the clintons' marriage have to do with the election, and #2-what business is their marriage of YOURS? if you want to stick your nose into other people's private lives, try 'oprah' or 'dr phil'...
this election is about who will lead the United States for the next 4 years...the REAL issues are too important, and the stakes are too high, for this kind of tabloid mentality...

Tons. Why didn't she divorce a cheating husband, Bill Clinton? She says Obama's pastor wouldn't have been her pastor because, ostensibly, she would not have tolerated his behavior. The logic, especially given her self-implied position as standard-bearer and example for women, would seem to indicate that she should have left Bill. The none-of-your business response is not sufficient.

President Clinton mindfully impugned the reputations of numerous women to further his political career, and Senator Clinton has stood by him. I don't think it's out of line to question that decision as a serious character flaw when considering the next elected leader of the United States.

The only thing that should be done is Dean should resign for creating such a mess. This now needs to play out, count all the votes and the DNC needs to take a real hard look in the mirror for creating the perception of an illegitimate election. The RULES state that there needs to be 2025 for al clear winner, something impossible to do by design. This is not the candidates, the states and certainly not the voters fault. The DNC deserves 100% of the blame.

Alright Houdini. Whatever you're planning, do it quickly. At least before Hillary makes another goodwill trip into a warzone or Rev. Wright decides to come out of retirement.

To Reid:

Whatever is being "done", it needs to be done quickly. Otherwise, the Democratic party will die a SLOW death.

To Hillary:
It's time to say good-by. Sorry, but this is true.i am sad for you, but it is time to go.

To OBAMA:
Hello~ It's a new day in America! Hope is on the horizon.
