Bill Clinton To Obama Campaign: "Let's Just Saddle Up And Have An Argument"

ABC   |  Jake Tapper   |   March 26, 2008 03:10 PM

Clinton also had a word to say about all the surrogates of both his wife's and Sen. Barack Obama's campaigns whom had been ejected, including former Obama campaign adviser Samantha Power, and former Clinton campaign finance committee member Geraldine Ferraro.

"I don't think any of these people oughta be asked to resign," said the former president. "All these guys that say bad things about any other campaign, they say should they resign? My answer is no, they're repeating the party line. They oughta stay right where they are.

"Let's just saddle up and have an argument," he continued. "What's the matter with that? That's what America's about, right?

Sometimes I really wonder what goes on in peoples minds.

Look, this is campaigning. You don't think if Obama get's elected that he won't have to do this in the generals? Of course he will. Wake up.

You think this did not happen to the clintons already? Of course it has.

I realize that this campaign may be the first campaign that some of you have paid attention to or perhaps some of you are just younger. You have to realize that during campaigns anything can happen. Obama IS NOT above the frey, it is a campaign strategy. Its "how do I beat the other party that is strong", "where are their weaknesses" "How can I hit them"

I think at this point Bill Clinton and the term "saddle up" ought not be used in the same sentence.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:39 AM on 03/28/2008

" Let' just saddle up and have an argument."
I have a better idea. Why don't you and Hillary just saddle up, and ride out of town? And take our wagging finger and your innuendos and your sour grapes, with you. Thanks, Slick Willy---see ya!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:33 AM on 03/28/2008

The Clintons should saddle up and ride out of town.

Let's think positive. We should be angry because the mud slinging was done without care and respect for the DEM People. We Deserve to be good to ourselves. Therefore, We must be willing to to put aside the tapesand the ugliness from them, that were used in an attempt to SMEAR Obama. The folks who did this to the tapes were Paid con artist. They knew how lie and set fear in folks. to request This family to denounce this man, and they leave their church home.If you will. This kind of act, and this kind of smear (tapes spliced & diced to repeat a threatening message) portrayy the Rev as a Hater, racist. THREATS (fear tactics) in such ugly rhetoric appears real and true, but Stirs up hate . This is the kind of tactics used on some captured Run away Children. by some Cult leaders. They play the tapes and threaten to abuse these children to keep them from returning back to their homes, their parents, and family. Further more the smear is about their parents degrading them, When rhetoric is use 7/24 it modifies behaviour. Many folks believed this message, not Rev's orig message and wanted obama to denounce this man., his menttor. People need to be careful about hateful acts that hurt people. They usually end up losers.

Who is the candidate? BC should go back in hiding and stop bashing Obama. Remember McGov said it is not time for the woman.....? Well this is why. BC doesnt get it. We have too many womanizing men running loose speaking on behalf of the woman, calling the shots for the woman, Getting the woman in trouble at her own expense, making the worman look foolish due to his own accord but at her expense. These are men who won't allow a woman to lead, take lead or be out front on her own. This term is much deeper, but , Let Bill wag his finger and twirl his finger and accuse others of beating up on the girl, no one knows this any better than himself. BC's days have come and gone, It is Obama's time now...Kitchen is close to you and yours, We are fired up and ready to go. it is time for us to roll up our sleeves and work for and with Obama.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:45 PM on 03/27/2008

Didn't you know? Bill is the candidate, Hillary is just a front.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:37 AM on 03/28/2008

"Let's just saddle up and have an argument," he continued. "What's the matter with that? That's what America's about, right?"

Um........no....Bill, thoughtful, intelligent people do not expect to find a POTUS at the end of a
mudfight...

I know, that's where we found you, and you did a pretty good job, but every day was a fight, and you didn't help us one little bit. Our nerves, your reputation, the party and not a few good intentions were in shreds by the time you got done... and we just don't have time for the war games again.

So I'm not sure you are the ultimate authority....

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:40 PM on 03/27/2008

What is that you are not getting? Campaigning does this. It get's people a little hot under the collar at times. We should not take it so personally. Debating and campaigning does that to people.
He is saying it for both sides. How long have you paid attention to politics.

You do not think Obama has a campaign strategy? Of course he does. This "staying above the frey" is part of that. He is using every method he can to make the "other side" look worse. This IS a compaign.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:11 AM on 03/30/2008

Okay Bill Clinton - why don't you and Michelle have a debate and see who wins - ha - When Barack attempts to have a debate with her all the women scream foul - she's being treated badly or all those blue collar uneducated women scream sexism - how does one have a fair fight with her - remember in the past (and I hate to say this but the history books will tell you) when a black man just looked at a white woman, they were lynched - that same mentality prevails today unfortunately in the minds of some - there is no fair fight - and there could never be a fair fight between and man and woman regardless of race or anything else -

"If a politician doesn't want to get beat up, he shouldn't run for office."

The fact that he believes this, that he's so sure that he's speaking an undeniable, unalterable truth ... disgusting. I'm ashamed for all the time I wasted defending this man to my conservative friends and colleagues when he was getting "beat up" in the "game" of politics. Apparently I was taking it all too seriously -- he saw himself, that whole time, as just another linebacker taking and delivering hits for a moment of glory.

This is EXACTLY what's wrong with this country, and what Obama is trying to change. Its inexcusable that Bill Clinton can say such a thing. The Clintons may have a different policy platform than the gutter Republicans, but their view of how Washington should work is exactly the same.

Policies are important, but fixing our dysfunctional political system must be Priority No. 1. The rest is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The Clintons' approach alienates the people and keeps power locked up in the hands of the powerful few (Bushes, Clintons, and mega-donors who write threatening letters to Pelosi).

I have problems with McCain's positions, but at least he pushed thru campaign finance reform (against his own party's will). He seems to share my hopeful vision of a better Washington. The Clintons mock that notion and openly advocate democracy-by-knife-fight-to-the-death.

If forced to choose between HRC and McCain, how can I possibly choose Clinton?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:31 PM on 03/27/2008

"Bill Clinton to Obama Campaign: Let's Just Saddle Up and Have an Argument" ?!

That line does not convey the real point Bill Clinton was making, does it? Theres no need to challenge Obama's willingness to engage in an "argument" -- thereve been 20 debates!

In this clip, Clinton revealed his true self -- and their real strategy, which no one in the campaign would ever dare admit to -- when he said this outrageous line:

"If a politician doesn't want to get beat up, he shouldn't run for office."

The fact that he believes this, that he can say it with such a snicker, so sure that he's speaking an undeniable, unalterable truth ... that's just disgusting. I feel ashamed for all the time I wasted defending this man to my conservative friends and colleagues when he was getting "beat up" in the "game" of politics. Apparently I was taking it all too seriously -- he saw himself, that whole time, as just a player on the field, just another linebacker taking and delivering hits to get a meaningless "win" and his moment in the limelight.

It's just a game for these people -- all ego and machismo, and winning and glory. Certainly not about a fair process by which the people get to make an honest and fair choice based on reason and facts. It's about who can survive the other's assaults. It doesn't have to be that way. I'm not a lone voice in the wilderness on

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:11 PM on 03/27/2008

It's all fun and games until McCain gets elected

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:00 PM on 03/27/2008

Will he live that long? The last thing we need is to have an octogenerian presidet to follow bush. Cheney was bush's president, because he is an idiot. Who will be McCain's president, another cheney? Get over your romance witht the stupid republican party and vote for an American president that offers change and hope, and I don't mean the hillbillies from Hope, Arkansas.

The destruction of the Democrat Party, because of two idiots, would rather destroy it, than behave like adults. Everyone fears another four years of REPUBLICAN GARBAGE, but the two Morons, Bill and Hillary will fight like school yard children until the REPUBLICAN agenda is realized. The big losers will not be Clintonions, but it will surely be the citizens of America SAD SAD SAD "AND SICK"

GO BARACK OBAMA/JIM WEBB 2008

Wonder why Bill Clinton is willing to risk his "legacy" over his wife's disastrous candidacy?
My guess is 1.) his guilt over his history of serial infidelities. 2.) Give Hillary the Cold One
the replacement libido of political power as a way to keep her distracted. 3.) Get SADDLED-UP
again whether it's with an intern, maid, cook, secretary, rich woman, no matter.
Bill, I voted for you twice and repent it. Now I want you to SADDLE UP and ride into
the sunset. Your time has passed and we Democrats WANT CHANGE in Washington.

Can we just get Dennis Kucinich to flip a coin, I am sick of this bickering!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:01 PM on 03/27/2008

Bickering would almost be acceptable. but Hil, Bil and Chel want someone to come out and play with them, one at a time. They will play pretend cowboys, injen, fido, etc. but first, Bil wants a chip put on his own shoulder to see who goes first. Petty Petty Petty. Next,They will engage in more child's play.C's + want Obama to be responsible for the message portrayed on a con artist's spliced and diced tapesportraying Rev as a racist,& hater. Now,. If Obama won't play this game by C's rules, he has to tell the Rev", He aint gon be his friend and will be lookin fo another hom" The 3rd game is Hil sit down, Michelle sit down, New players, Bil wants himself & Obama each sit on a saddle and argue. This sounds like shoot em up time. Did Hil tell Bil, that someone wants to apologize to him because some black folks have done pull something too many times out the pot for Bil and he thinks hes been the 1st blk pres. NO end of Argument. Obama will be.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:52 AM on 03/28/2008

Obama supporters are just plain running scared of the Clintons. you can see that in the whiny little child like responses they post.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:51 PM on 03/27/2008

Right.

Because with 171 more delegates than Hillary, higher poll numbers, class, respect, and - dare I say - one hell-of-a great speaker - Obama has every reason to "run scared" from Hillary.

I think it speaks volumes when Hillary's camp talks about using kitchen sink tactics - and now ramped up to "Tonya Harding" tactics (quoting Hillary's camp) - to "win" the nomination.

Someone who is afraid of losing is usually the one throwing their arms up in panic.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:41 PM on 03/27/2008

Child like, young, naive, stupid.... great looks like you picked up the same paint brush as Fox in labeling and disregarding the serious message of Obama supporters. People are confronting the Clintons, I haven't seen anyone run scared. In fact I have seen them run to the Obama campaign and make a contribution. Obama is winning the popular vote and the Clintons will see the party and convention collapse into chaos if she gets the nod.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:19 PM on 03/27/2008

There are millions of voters who have yet to vote. 10 states plus Florida and Michigan voters have a need to vote in a way that counts. The superdelegates need to especially respect the voters and let them weigh in before making their decisions.

So everyone needs to respect American voters. Obama supporters - show a little patriotism. It reflects on your candidate.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:27 PM on 03/27/2008

vsign, sybillary hypocritical supporter. Now it's about the voters? If you have a problem with Florida and Michigan being counted then perhaps you need to focus on the DNC and the MI/FL leaders who didn't give two s*its about the precious voters when the moved up the primaries. Nice try with your double talk. I guess you "misspoke".

Secondly, none of you where concerned when you thought Super Tuesday was going to be wrapped up on 2/5, so save your fake concern.

Don't you talk about "patriotism". Pres. Bill "dodge drafting" Clinton has ZERO BUSINESS criticising anyone's "patriotism".

No wonder Sybillary supporters are uneducated. You all love to regurgiate spoonfed talking points.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:14 PM on 03/27/2008

Oh that is FUNNY!!! Actually let's talk about running scared...hillary, when asked about LYING about her Bosnia trip quickly changes the subject to Obama's Rev after saying she was sleep deprived. WHAT?!?! Hmmmm, now who do you want answering the 3:00AM phone call? That is a typical 5 year old reaction!!!

So if bill wants to have an argument, why won't he let his ADULT daughter answer questions about his LEWINSKI faux pas and subsequent lies? If she is out there campaigning for her mother then she is going to have to answer the tough questions too! Not that it was that tough!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:48 PM on 03/27/2008

ha! sleep deprived and answering the phone at 3am -- you might be on to something (if nothing more than a hardy laugh at the Clinton's lack of a consistent message).

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:45 PM on 03/27/2008

He's all tough talk until you ask him or his family about Lewinsky, he has never answered fully for his affair so to speak with Lewinsky.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:43 PM on 03/27/2008

You're right, him having an affair probably affected the nation. Too bad it wasn't something innocent like following the teachings of a racist America hater. No one could ever be harmed by electing a racist president.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:20 PM on 03/27/2008

You evidently have not done your research. Rev. Wright is not a racist or an America hater. Did you know that he served in the military for this country?
Do you actual think that President Obama would've been allowed in the Senate if he was a racist?

How quick it is to judge when you are too lazy to research the facts.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:40 PM on 03/27/2008

So is he racist against himself? REMEMBER he is white too!

think some Americans just can't see past the color of the skin. Is he going to condemn his own race...NO! WAKE UP MAN!

Obama is not racist nor is his Rev. but you keep those blinders on. That is what the true racists want you to do! Blast the man that can actually make a change, while they continue to destroy us little by little!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:55 PM on 03/27/2008

You mean the Rev. Wright that came to the WH to stand by him in his hour of need after diddling an intern with a cigar and that his wife in her desperation is throwing under the bus to cover her lies?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:51 PM on 03/27/2008
