Obama-Bloomberg Ticket? McCain-Romney Ticket?

The Veepstakes are heating up, even though the Democrats have yet to choose a nominee . Speculation over an Obama-Bloomberg ticket mounted yesterday as the Mayor introduced the Senator at a speech on the economy. The same whispers are circulating around the Republican camp. The Washington Post writes "now, Romney is "hinting that he wouldn't mind joining a McCain ticket." See below for the two reports:

It was only hours after Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg finally made it clear that he was not running for president that his chief political guru, Kevin Sheekey, suggested that he would be the perfect running mate for Senator Barack Obama.

So Mr. Bloomberg's highly orchestrated introduction of Mr. Obama at a speech at the Cooper Union on Thursday quickly resuscitated speculation that the billionaire mayor might end up in the White House after all. But despite a few jokes and a stiff embrace, the men seemed nothing like two peas in the same political pod, destined to share a ticket.

It remains to be seen whether John McCain will put ex-rival Mitt Romney's financial know-how to use by picking him as his running mate. But yesterday, McCain did the most to milk another of Romney's primary attributes -- his access to deep pockets in Rocky Mountain country.

Romney joined McCain at a fundraiser in Salt Lake City yesterday and is set to accompany him to another fundraiser in Denver this evening. It is familiar territory for Romney, whose family has roots in Utah and who lived there for several years. Romney raised $6.3 million in Utah, more than from his home state of Massachusetts and second only to his haul from California, during his bid for the GOP nomination.
