Clinton Is Staying In

Washington Post:

In her most definitive comments to date on the subject, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sought Saturday to put to rest any notion that she will drop out of the presidential race, pledging in an interview to not only compete in all the remaining primaries but also continue until there is a resolution of the disqualified results in Florida and Michigan.

A day after Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean urged the candidates to end the race by July 1, Clinton defied that call by declaring that she will take her campaign all the way to the Aug. 25-28 convention if necessary, potentially setting up the prolonged and divisive contest that party leaders are increasingly anxious to avoid...

...Her remarks come as Clinton faces a mounting drumbeat, driven by the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and his backers, for her to bow out and avert a party crisis. Obama's supporters argue that he is too far ahead in pledged delegates for Clinton to catch up; Clinton counters by saying that neither of them has secured the 2,024 delegates needed for the nomination.

"Least of all Obama ,who has the audacity to say .....she can stay as long as she wants"...He also had the audacity to call Clinton a "capable leader" and "dedicated public servant" as well, I don't know where this guy gets his nerve from.

uglybetty,
What's up with you people?!?!?!??! He said she could stay in the race as long as she wants. What's wrong with him saying that? How pray tell, did he offend? For the Hillary demographic, when Barack said she could stay in as long as she wants, he was responding to calls from others that she drop out. Now, IF you all need clarification on other subtleties, please let us know, we can help explain it to you all, AGAIN!

You need to get over yourself. Obama was asked a question regarding Leahy's statement about her withdrawing, and he replied. What did you expect him to say? "No comment"? You'd be screaming if he agreed with Leahy, but when he says she has the right to stay in as long as she wants, then there's something wrong with that. Clinton supporters -every single day - prove to me that I chose the right candidate to support. Grow up. She's not going to win, so you might as well get used to it, and blame her for leading you down the garden path when Obama wins the nomination.

The 2024 number does not include Florida and Michigan.

Good luck with your lawsuit, though.

Sorry your wrong the number is 4048 including the 338 pledge delegates from Michigan and Florida, they must be removed, making the total 3710, divided by 2 (two) makes 1855 half.

That makes 1856 the magic number. Senator Obama has more than that with His Texas WIN.

Dear Ammindab, It seems you are correct, as near as I can make out, the number of delegates needed is 2024, the 338 delegates from Florida and Michigan are *NOT* included.

Ha! My law suit has no legs, nor does my argument. It's I that was *WRONG*, begging your pardon. Agape.

Senator Clinton has every right to remain in the race.

Hillary should stay in the race as long as she wants. She likes the high of a good fight-so does Bill. They thrive on fighting in politics-it is their livlihood. Besides, the more folks call for her to withdraw-the more she will stay and next we will all have to hear how she is the victim of "the poor bullied woman" that will not be pushed around by the good old boys. (Even though she has more balls than the good old boys) She has no shame -so let her be.

This article has been completely edited, including an inflamatory fabricated title. What dictionary is being used for the definition of "deluged"?

Um, she's waiting until there is a definitive resolution to Florida and Michigan? Maybe I can help her out there. There will be no re-vote in either state. The delegates will not be apportioned according to the sham primaries she won. In the best case scenario, she will get half of the delegates from each state. Now can she withdraw? Or does this need to continue until she can be quite certain that her attacks on Obama for not honoring her phony victories or supporting the highly questionable and corruptible (just the way she likes them) revote scenarios her campaign put forward have done enough damage to him in Florida and Michigan to ensure both states vote Republican in the fall, thus costing him the presidency so she can run again in 2012?

As an Obama supporter I'd like to urge people NOT to tell her to drop out.

The math is there. The fact that she cannot overcome Obama's pledged delegate lead is going to be there whether we point it out or not. Let her campaign continue as long as it wants; it makes no difference. The only thing urging her to drop out does is make her supporters feel like she's getting picked on and gets their back up.

Everytime she praises John McCain, launches some scurrilous attack or tells some whopper, people see her for what she is. Why talk her out of doing that? And why allow her to tell another "comeback kid" story when she wins Pennsylvania, as she's almost certain to do?

I agree!!..It's going to make Obama's win more legitimate if all states get to vote. She's probably not going to catch up to him anyway. There's already bad blood between the supporters of each candidate. If we force her to leave her supporters will take it personally. Obama is going to be the nominee!!!...She has the right to stay in, i just wish they would focus on McCain and policies rather than on each other!

so that means we have to watch the newscycles once again talk endlessly - is this the end for clinton. How can she win?? and of course she will have another "moment" before PA. Slate.com even has a death watch for her.

Yeah lets have her stay in the race and steal all of the newscycles from BO. Real smart. I want to see coverage on how BO is running a great campaign not the death of HRC's campaign. I would rather see here go. The ONLY reason to let her stay is because of course we don't want to offend her supporters - that is the ONLY reason.

I am wondering what the fund raising totals are going to look like for the month of March. I suspect a lot of folks responded to Sen. Obama's hstoriic speach on 3/18 like I did; by writing a check to his campaign

It may quiickly get to the point that the money math, like the delegate count math, will make it impossible for her to win or even continue. The March reports may be quite telling.

Hillary its time to step down.

You say that you're for small business weel it looks like you are screwing them.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's cash-strapped presidential campaign has been putting off paying hundreds of bills for months -- freeing up cash for critical media buys, but also earning the campaign a reputation as something of a deadbeat in some small business circles.

A pair of Ohio companies owed more than $25,000 by Clinton for staging events for her campaign are warning others in the tight-knit event production community -- and anyone else who will listen -- to get their cash upfront when doing business with her. Her campaign, say representatives of the two companies, has stopped returning phone calls and e-mails seeking payment of outstanding invoices. One even got no response from a certified letter.

Why doesn't she just refinance her house upstate with a subprime mortgage from her campaign manager Maggie Williams? She should know how to set one of those up -- prepayment penalties and all!

She's bungled her campaign. There's a lack of focus, no clear and consistent message, silly red herrings, flimsy lies and financial mismanagement. So much for all the boasting about experience.

It's not going to happen. Deal with it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:17 PM on 03/30/2008

I agree, the whole thing is silly. She's going to lose regardless, so why waste time asking her to drop out?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:38 PM on 03/30/2008

I'm an Obama supporter and I agree. It's her reputation to lose. Let her lose it. The only thing I think most of us want to see is her campaign stopping the praising of McCain over Obama. That's just bad for the party and unreasonable. I think most of the calls for her to leave are because of the ammunition she is giving McCain. She stops that then the calls for her to depart should stop.

Huckabee ran a respectable campaign. He described the differences between himself and John McCain while still being respectful. I put it to you that her campaign has not even come close to that standard. Both she and Bill have said they love this part of politics, the fighting. So be it, but then don't be surprised when you get tagged as an "at all costs" candidate.

Fair enough?

Here is the simple fact why Hillary is NOT quitting. She owes so much money to "those working people" she claims to be for that she has to stay in a beg for money so she can pay her bills. If you are sending her money now - YOU are paying her bills. Why doesn't Bill dig into that $20M he got from the Arabs. Both Hillary and Bill are begging for money from you to pay their bills. Real Shame. Also, she needs to pay ALL those private investigators they hired to find dirt on Obama.

I understand they paid Mark Penn $5 million.

See, Clintons' thinking is so aligned with their wealthy business backers that they think, like them, that one should be compensated for messing up!

julescator: And where is the money that Obama supporters going? What's the difference.

Make some sense.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:54 PM on 03/30/2008

Here is the difference - PAY CLOSE ATTENTION HERE- He is not squandering our money. He has money left and lives on the cheap and is frugal with our money. He pays HIS BILLS and does not owe "the little guy". Not to mention - HE IS WINNING! His money, obviously has been well spent. What do you think?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:38 PM on 03/30/2008

I think Clinton has spent most of her money trying to dig up dirt on Obama rather than using her money wisely to spead her own message. After all that digging, the most she can come up with is his Minister. Face it guys - she is talking about his minister, not his parole officer, not his mistress, not his illigitimate child - but his MINISTER. Give me a break! She needs to explain Bosnia, Ireland Peace Treaty, Opening Borders in Kosovo - Tax Forms, list of donars to the Clinton library etc. Clinton has enough of her own baggage and is trying to divert attention from her lies. Not gonna work lady!

Perhaps the comments in this blog reflect what has happened to Democrats as a result of the dirty tactics of the Clinton campaign. Perhaps Karl Rove is ever so pleased with himself as he watches us self destruct. Perhaps we need to listen to Senator Obama and unite before it is too late!
