Howard Dean On Superdelegates

Speaking on MSNBC Tuesday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told Norah O'Donnell that he hoped the remaining undecided superdelegates would declare their allegiance before July 1. But he hedged when asked whether he was doing anything to encourage those superdelegates to come to a decision.

Watch the exchange below:

Super Delegates will want to protect their investments and choose Hillary. Did you think for one
moment this election will be more fair than the last few? Not going to happen. Hillary can lie and
make up fairytales, her husband gets much credit for a time when the economy was booming
and he just happened to be president. People should remember the scandal ridden last 30 years
with the Clinton's. Always negative press. And why don't we hear anything about the ongoing
Hsu Trial, the Chinese who gave all that money to Clinton and she returned it - why was he charged?
Why is it not in the press????

Um,

Rev. Wright is not Obama. Rezko is not Obama. And patriotism comes in many flavors. Wrapping oneself in the flag like a Repugnican and then craping on the troops by sending them off on missions that are basically making the greatest military might on the planet into an extension of Exxon is NOT real patriotism.

Go Obama!

Obama 08!

Part of me wonders how many of those telling Clinton to get out and stop running told Al Gore to do the same think after he actually won all the votes only to find out many of his Florida votes would not be counted. Same song, second verse. And they call their party the Democratic one?

Don't forget Michigan she ran against the hardest opponent which is none of the above and still whipped their asses by 60% to 40% Count all the votes just remember the people of Florida and Michigan came out and voted and as long as that wimp Dean doesn't have the guts to see this fact he will be responsible for our defeat in November

THE CLINTON INSURGENCY IS IN FULL SWING

CALLS FOR HER WITHDRAWAL ONLY FEED IT!

Fueling the current Clinton Insurgency against Obama AND the entire DEM party is the Clintons" belief THEY were robbed of this nomination.

This belief provides them internal psychic comfort and external rationalization for ANY and EVERY behavior we have seen and will continue to see RIGHT THROUGH 2012.

Only the naive think this ends at the Convention. After losing there, the Clinton Insurgency goes underground to further expand their support of McCain's candidacy. If unsuccessful, it moves to the Senate where Hillary as Lieberman REDUX, will practically caucus with McCain to deny President Obama any success.

Between Super Tuesdays Obama won 11 straight states; and the Campaign to Elect Hillary morphed into the Campaign to Defeat Obama via this new political Insurgency we are witnessing daily.
Indeed, Hillary's campaign is an undeclared death-struggle to deny Obama not the nomination (she knows that's already lost), but the Presidency and any media coverage that would aid him.

The goal is no longer winning. Victory is in prolonging the battle and denying the favorite his expected result, while spoiling it so that ultimate victory is worth less each day the Insurgency continues. This new Clinton campaign can only be by design of our Chief Democratic Architect, former President Bill Clinton, himself.

We all know this in our hearts. The only question facing loyal DEMS, to paraphrase Sean Connery from "The Untouchables": What are WE prepared to do?

I am so glad Dean's in charge of the party. He's been clear, consistent, and civilized throughout this crazy process, he's advocating the most reasonable course of action, and is staying on message.

I think most SD's know he's right - they don't want it to go to the convention either. As the next several primaries move forward, I suspect more and more SD's will make up their minds... Hopefully enough of them that we can wrap this thing up by July 1 - almost a month after the last states have voted - and move on to the general.

I agree with Dean about ending this well before the Denver convention. The DNC needs to organize a pre-convention convention for the super delegates in mid-June, after the end of the primaries.

Clinton and Obama should pledge to uphold the following:

1. To honor the outcome of the super delegate votes.

2. To wholeheartedly support the winner of the vote into the Denver convention and in the general election.

Each candidate should be allowed to make their case directly to the super delegates prior to the vote.

Hillary needs to win the last 10 contests 64-36% in order to take a 2 delegate lead. She has only won by that much in Arkansas. Obama has won by 60% or more in 21 contests! Obama has won 14 of the last 16 contests. Sorry Hillary will not catch up.

Obama will have the delegate lead after the contests are done.
The superdelegates have never overturned the primary results.
The superdelegates have said they will not overturn the results.
The superdelegates will not overturn the results.
Hillary cannot win.

So, what're we doing?

Spending time, money and party credibility hacking up Obama before he takes on McCain, thus endangering the Nov election? Why, because HRC can her supporters are poor losers.

The candidate's surrogates are already lobbying the Superdelegates behind closed doors. Why not let them continue until the Convention? The candidates can each campaign publicly against McCain. Once the Convention begins in August, the Superdelegates will have a good idea which candidate will likely beat McCain.

For that matter, why have a primary contest at all? Let's just let the candidates wheel and deal with the party bosses in the "smoke filled rooms"

off topic - if anyone was just watching Race To The White House with David Gregory, Rachel Maddow bought up the delegate win by Obama in Texas, and Joe Scarborough, now I know why I cannot stand him and I said he was in the tank for Hillary all along. Joe Scarborough said well we reported that Hillary won Texas and nobody knew that Obama won until just now, meaning that he has his own show and he sure as hell has not reported it and neither has anymore of the MSM. David Gregory is a jerk also, because he never picked up on it and he' s supposed to be such a good reporter! Boy, Rachel was really pissing Joe off tonight! You go girl, good for you!

But you're right...Rachel rocks!

Dems: it's time to admit that we can't lose this one. This needs to be wrapped up asap or that's just what will happen. It's over. I know that's hard to swallow if you're a Hillary supporter and I'm sorry. I truly am, but the reality is that this is already over.

her OWN PEOPLE admitted she has a snowball's chance in hell of winning. It's time.

Stop changing the rules as we go along. A strategy was put into action nearly a year ago and Howard "Scream" Dean is still tinkering with the rules. Let them compete. Speaker Pelosi and and House Majority Whip Clyburn are supposed to be neutral, but couldn't help but interject their comments in support of Obama during the campaign. If not Hillary, then McCain is "likeable enough."

Someone needs to slap you back into reality . . . . . . it's not a competition when you don't have a "snowballs" chance at winning popular vote, more states, more delegates than your opponent . . . . (it's called "Say Uncle")

sheesh . . . . tinkering with the rules is trying to seat delegates in FL & MI when SHE agreed not to in the beginning, saying caucuses aren't fair, saying only "Big States" matter . . . . etc, etc.

The Wizzard is handing out brains in OZ . . . . cheap! Do us a favor - Get one

He hasn't changed anytying, and he is letting them compete. The last primaries are over on June 3. Dean's July 1 deadline gives SD's almost a full month to deliberate after the last votes have been cast.

Dean has done a great job with his 50 state strategy. The DNC is lucky to have him. Obama was smart to run his campaign making all the states important unlike Hillary

One thing I'll say for Obama's as the nominee, his strategy will work well with Dean's 50-state strategy and help increase the gains for Democrats in the Senate, House and state legislatures. Neither Obama nor Clinton were my first, second or third choice for the nominee, but I'm ready for this to be over. McCain is getting away with murder by a compliant, corporate media that likes him personally. There is FAR more at stake this election than just the Presidential nominee. We need to do nothing less than rescue America from the trail of destruction left at home and abroad by failed conservative policies and the conservative movement. Let's get behind Obama now and get onto the larger picture. If we don't have gains in Congress, no Democrat will be able to anything genuinely progressive through Congress. As someone who did not support Obama, I congratulate him for almost certainly winning the most pledged delegates and the primary popular vote. Time to move on. God bless, Howard Dean. Remember, the ones who oppose him are the Washington triangulators who see "campaigning" solely as running big budget beltway-created advertisements in "swing states" while writing off huge sections of the country. Not that the Democrats have effectively used their majority, but a significant part of the reason why they have one is Howard Dean.
