WALLINGFORD, Pa. — Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday he would give Al Gore, a Nobel prize winner, a major role in an Obama administration to address the problem of global warming.

At a town-hall meeting, Obama was asked if he would tap the former vice president for his Cabinet to handle global warming.

"I would," Obama said. "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. It is something we have to deal with now, not 10 years from now, not 20 years from now."

Since leaving the White House, Gore has gone on to become one of the world's leading voices for combating the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming. His work earned him a share of the Nobel last year.

Popular among Democrats, Gore is perhaps the single most coveted endorsement up for grabs in the long-running competition between Obama and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The relationship between Gore and the Clintons became strained after Gore limited Bill Clinton's campaigning on his behalf in the 2000 presidential race which elected George W. Bush.

Obama said he would use Gore to help forge a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions designed to lower pollution.

The Illinois senator cautioned that such a system could mean an increase in electricity bills from power companies that rely on coal-burning, and that some of the money generated from a cap-and-trade system may be used in the beginning to help lower income or fixed income customers with those bills.

He also called on individuals to do their part to lower energy consumption.

"All of us are going to have to change our habits. We are a wasteful culture," he said.

Using compact fluorescent light bulbs, energy efficient appliances, and unplugging power chargers when they're not in use are relatively simple solutions, he said.

"Those kinds of simple steps, if everybody takes them, can drastically reduce our energy consumption."

Climate change is real, indeed. But Global WARMING may well be PAST.

This article (see below) advises you warmly to "stock up" on your "fur coats." Because, they say, it looks like the sun is entering a phase of sunspot inactivity comparable to levels last seen during the žLittle Ice Age" that ended around 1850.

There might be some pretty chilly decades ahead, even without politicians who suck your blood and gore.

Global Warming gets the Cold Freeze
Global warming hoax exposed by record global cold

by F. William Engdahl

And, by the way, for all who not yet know, F. WILLIAM ENGDAHL is no oil, coal and tobacco lobbyist, no closet neoconservative and, most certainly, no apologist of the žAmerican Way" of squandering. He is a genuine progressive, who, unlike so many who call themselves thus, has not forsaken the lower classes with their material needs. He has written the books "Oil Geopolitics" and "Doomsday Seed Vault" that show all those who care to know how the "Dollar Imperialism" exerts its (fiendish) power over your wallets, minds and even in your foodplates.

Ignore this man at your own cost. He unequivocally calls Gore's Global Warming concern by its proper name: It's a HOAX, destined to daunt, fleece, and (finally) starve people for the luxury of one of the most parasitic and amoral elite caste ever sawn, today's "globalist" power and money cartel.

He could offer as much as he wants...Gore isn't interested!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:03 PM on 04/06/2008

I guess he knows why. Ever heard of "Green locusts"?

Gore a hedge fund manager, who makes filthily huge sums of money ruining the real economy, ... while you hype him up. He is the upper class, and you are the under class. It's that simple. His ilk get the government bailouts (at the very moment, to boot, that his "industry" has bankrupted the "free market" economy, that has, for some time made up for, even prior, destruction of the real industries, that feed, clad and keep you warm).

But go on treating him as a new savior. Such folly is going to somewhat make it easy for the rest of the world to feel no pity, once America will start its decline from world domination and luxury to third world status and failed nation conditions.

Oh, if only this were just ME, raving. Horribly, it's you.

I think it's a fabulous idea to offer the TRUE current President of the United States a cabinet level position in the next administration.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:36 PM on 04/05/2008

As much as I totally get your point, there is no way this country would be in such a dire tate if Gore were infact the current president. There is one small man both in size and intelect that has wreaked havoc on this world. He will go down in the history books as the" worst president ever."
Anyway it would be a huge benefit for this country to have Gore back in a position of power and public service. How exciting

I think Gore would make a fine Postmaster General!

I would prefer Ron Paul as vice president for Obama, the corporatist Americans hate him, the military and many good, true conservative Americans love him, and the furthest left fear him.... Obama would be free to do the right thing for America without too much threat....like Bush has done against America protected by the Darth Vader as his replacement.

When is Gore going to tell china to go green and save the world from his power point slides?

Wow, and here I thought it was a chance at a dream team. Obama as president and Gore in the cabinet able to affect real change. I don't blame Gore for wanting little to do with politics and elections, but the opportunity to be in a position to make a difference would have to be too enticing! No one took him seriously as VP trying to open peoples eyes. This time we'd have a real chance!

Settle down and THINK!

And while you're thinking, anyone think there might be a chance of Obama/Edwards? That too would be a dream come true!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:28 PM on 04/03/2008

Agreed. It is the type of cabinet that would put the 'experience' issue to rest for good. Obama will surround himself with the best and brightest. I think Gore is soooo cautious because he knows how vindictive the Clintons are. But he will stand up and be heard at some point. Sooner rather than later would be nice though.

how revolutionary of Obama. anyone would want to hire Gore. but does Gore want to work for Obama is the question. i doubt it. thats not a diss on Obama. Gore seems to be very contented with life outside of Washington. and who can blame him after what the Bush crime family did to him in 2000.

Al Gore has given enough of himself to politics. i'd like to see Gore right more books. "the Assault of Reason" was one of the best books i ever read.

Why not. He invented the internet, right?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:52 AM on 04/03/2008

You are aware he never actually said that right? Something he said about a very important piece of legislation got blown out of proportion. Oddly even though it was a factor in him losing the election, he did receive awards (other than his Nobel) for his work on that legislation because it greatly helped us to have the internet as we know it today. Truth, what a silly concept in politics.

How did some of these posters go from Al Gore to Reverend Wright? It's a long stretch. People that want to keep harping on the Wright story should go post where it still being talked about. I'm sure Faux news or some other MSM outlet is still spinning this story. .....much to some unfortunate souls delight.

RIGHT- GORE DESERVES THE BIG CHAIR! Why would Gore want to be anything but President?
He would be the best canidate but he has too much sense to follow the Bush Disaster!! We already elected him. He will do more for the American People if he stays out of the beltway. Politics is not his gig, he is far beyond it.

So, Obama is going to offer Gore a job.
I think Al Gore is doing just fine without Obama. Thank you.

Uhm, wouldn't you want Al Gore to work with you on Global Warming? Yes, Obama would offer him a job in an Obama administration to help with this problem.

What about that is arrogant? You get the best people you can scientifically and politically to help deal with the big issues. What would you want, Obama to tap someone like Paul Bremer or Mike "you're doin a heck of a job brownie!" Brown? Or Harriet Miers?

I mean really now.

Wake up and smell the coffee... Grammy it's called intelligence not arrogance. Barack realizes that climate change is a serious problem...unlike the Republicans who refused to believe it was actually happening. That is until Al Gore won the Nobel prize for his efforts to stop global warming.

Actually Hillary Clinton is better on global warming and environment. At least she does not support liquid coal

For what it's worth, Obama doesn't support liquid coal either -- reconsidered his position on that earlier last summer.

http://www.environmental-action.org/blog/archives/2007/06/obama_moving_aw.html

This is the part where you call him a flip-flopper for deciding to agree with you.

And I guess I'll add that Obama was first on the wagon for auctioning 100% of cap-and-trade credits. Hillary caught her position up with his a few months later. Which is a good thing, but for my part, I see Obama as less likely to backpedal once the industry puts the pressure on.

The Global Warming Hoax will be laughed at in history. All this warming talk will only lead to huge tax increases as we devise ways to start useless programs just to take away the guilt people like Gore has put on us. I laughed at this past weekend when Google had a black web page for an hour. A joke....no less electricity was used. Or when news crews flew all over the place to film dark parties etc.....hypocritical when you consider extra fuel and electricity to accomplish those stories.

Happy green locusts have replaced dogs and cats as Americans' favourite pets. (Useful horses have long gone out of fashion.)

If this is to be thought positiive news, I can only imagine one reason why: Because it ultimately seals that the the 21st century will not be an American one. Russia, China, and who knows what underestimated parts of today's Third World will replace our corrupt, bored and now hallucinating system of Western world domination that projects its own cultural decay on an alleged climatic response of nature against the so-called "sins" of industrial civilization as such.

Pathetic, ridiculous, but hopeful exactly because it is already settled that history will pass over self-mulitators. The "Third World" will not accept your Wall-Street-parasitic "Cap-and-Trade" system, and God be praised for it.

Rather you believe Gore or not-----------our weather is more violent and our Polar caps are melting. That tells you some thing is wrong with the earths balance. It's only to reason if you gooble up the worlds resources, with out replaceing them you will run out of resources. I'm not saying it's that disperate now, but in our grandchildren or great kids it could be desperate times. So, yes I believe we must invest for further scientific studies to find out the trueth of it all, and stop political izeing it for personal gain! So I'm sstill not sure about Gore's views. I'd feel better if scientist were behind the investigations into this problem. Than have them present thier findings in a Nato kind of setting with all country's present for the meeting. But I think Gore could help a lot to push it-----if it is true. He has a lot of pull, and Obama would be smart to use his resources to come to the trueth of it all, and than set up programs.

(Part II, continuation)

Lesser manipulations at one valve (carbon dioxide) will only result in a little bias on what natural (meteorologic) reaction the global weather machine will apply over the randomized data. It will not lead to any global warming, at all, in my opinion.

(Perhaps, changes in weather patterns, yes, but how much and in what dirction, I don't know, and I don't believe anybody knows.)

You may believe, I am careless, but actually I am quite the contrary of it. I don't believe, however, that the matter will be settled, before western science will lose its position of global domination, for I see this issue too one area where the total cultural corruption of western civiliization becomes apparent.

I doubt that "the polar caps are melting".

The north pole seems to be in historical phase of retreating glaciated area. That is that anyone can say. And as to the antarctic ice, all I regularly hear from the global warming faction are documentations from the western antartic region, near the antarctic pensinsula. Here, we have a climate trend towards warming, indeed. A fact which I know already from the reports of acquaintances I have in souther Chile. But this, prima facie, is a regional trend, just as we have in Western Europe (where I live), with the famous corollory of melting Alpine glaciers, incessantly cited, - and believed by a lot of credulous people -, as "proof" of all the dangers the IPCC daunts us with.

The easy news is, - and I tried to hint at this with my postings "Posted 05:22 AM on 04/03/2008", the natural greenhouse effect is real, but it is no linear effect (therefore no simple correlation "more greenhouse gases, more warming" holds true. Indeed, you may call me what you like, after weighing a lot of pros and cons me, personally, am all but convinced that it is rather plainly visible that the natural grenhouse effect is not even non-linear, but, indeed, essentially exhausted, by the earth's natural endowment of greenhouse gases, the (vast) majority of which being water vapor.

(To be continued; Part I)

And for all those nurturing doubts that I am sincere and of good intent, e.g., check out this page:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/03/09/do0902.xml&CMP=ILC-mostviewedbox

The Chinese will know better than to cripple their economic growth by signing on our follies since they just experienced a record cold winter. They is no more significant global warming since the about 1998. But, ah, I forgot, of course everyone knows that "Global Warming" can show itself through record colds just as much as through everything. A woman trialled for witchcraft proved herself guilty by denial just as by confession as well, after all.

Gore's "science" is flawed, that is the simple knews. The IPCC as well. And here comes the good one: YOU CAN CHECK IT OUR YOURSELVES, it requires only some patience, some readiness to consider an opposing view starting from a clean sheet without prejudice and some moderate foundations in physics:

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 PM on 04/05/2008

I am not "recommending" Steven Milloy, as a person, in any way. On the contrary, there obviously is polemic in his article.

But, nevertheless, said article will give you some of the basics, understandable too a broad public by easy mental processes, which plainly contradict the the idea of any self-evidency in the official line, that, obviously, element absorbing radiative energy, need heat the climate.

This is too simple a logic. This is a suggestive argument, just as is the thoughtless use of the word "greenhouse effect", as such (which, by the way, is generally known, look up wikipedia). Nevertheless, the public debate relies on this suggestive effect of the generally used concepts.

And Steven Milloy in this article, for all you may legitimately hold against him, gives a simple presentation of the reasons why it may well be very different from the genral line. - There is competition for the available (long-wave radiative) energy, the "atmospheric window" for radiative energy is very small, a lot of said window is completely unavailable for carbon dioxide, on reasons of basic physics, and the idea of a (catastrophic) positive feedback via water vapor is not proven and, indeed, positively contrived, to say the least.

I find THIS line of reasoning, and this line only, VERY convincing. Think for your own, all who read it. The motives for obfuscation are there, from all sides. So, POTENTIALLY, I am as guilty as the other side.
