Senator Debbie Stabenow's Husband Admits To Sex With Alleged Prostitute Alycia Martin

AP reports:

The husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow told police he paid a prostitute $150 for sex at a hotel, according to a police report.

Thomas Athans, 46, co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network, was stopped by police who were investigating prostitution at the hotel, according to a police report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press under the state Freedom of Information Act.

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News first reported on the case.

Stabenow, D-Mich., said in a statement it was "very disturbing and serious. Obviously it's a deeply difficult and personal matter..."

...Stabenow and Athans married in 2003. He started TalkUSA Radio in 2006 after leading programming at Air America, the liberal network that declared bankruptcy that year.

Police said they arrested Alycia Martin, 20, of Westland in the hotel room on a charge of prostitution. She was arraigned March 12 and freed on $100 bail pending a hearing on April 22. There is no telephone listing for her in Westland and she did not have an attorney of record to speak for her Wednesday.

LOL, I once worked with a devout Lutheran from Germany. She was matter-of-fact about prostitution being legal back home, and didn't seem to mind so much. I asked her if she would be bothered if her fiancee back home (long distance relationship) went to a prostitute to tide him over while she was overseas, and she almost strangled me.

Governor Spitzer fought crime and corruption with every breath he took. He married a lawyer who supports him, believes this is a set up, and insisted he keep his job and fight. Together they raised three well-adjusted high achieving daughters.

Frivolous federal prosecution and indiscreet press coverage is the source of trauma for his family, not his misdemeanor indiscretions. He obviously went to great length AND EXPENSE to insulate his family. The irony is that if he had had an affair, far more dangerous to his marriage, he would not have had to resign. This is a harmless, victim-less crime, NEVER prosecuted federally, but most posters seem to have NO SENSE OF PROPORTION. If his wife had discovered this herself, they could have handled it privately, saving his family the humiliation. BUT NO!
