In addition to the wounded Iraq journalists Kimberly Dozier and Bob Woodruff, "The Colbert Report" won a Peabody Award yesterday. In a statement released yesterday, Colbert said, "I proudly accept this award and begrudgingly forgive the Peabody Committee for taking three years to recognize greatness. On a personal note, I'd like to say that I've long been a fan of Mr. Peabody, as well as his boy Sherman."

Last night on his show, Colbert gloated and tried to rub the award in the face of fellow Comedy Central host Jon Stewart.

Does Stephen have any idea how many women are completely, and utterly, head over heels, punch drunk in love with him? Watching John Legend and Stephen Colbert sing together recently was not only thrilling to watch, (heart be still,) but it bordered on a religious experience for his female fans.

The Grady School of Journalism here at the University of Georgia is a shabby complex (that they share with Psychology, called the PJ ~ psych/journalism) with this weird half-roof, half-walkway thing that is painted puke pink. I think it must have been built in the late 60s. They make up for their sad accommodations by having EXCELLENT taste. From the other side of Athenstown, I salute you Grady!

Colbert is too funny. I loved his interview with Geraldo a few weeks ago. Next to Frontline, he has the best news show on television. A sad commentary on Anderson Cooper and American "journalism".

Just like reality TV, talking heads are just way cheaper than the real thing.

Stewart and Colbert, more credibility than all Main Stream Media put together.

The Fourth Estate has been bought.

Maybe Colbert will be nice and invite O'Reilly on his show to let him hold the award ... nah.

Stephen wasn't "laughing in Jon Stewart's face"; Stewart wasn't even there!

Besides, he is very proud of the other two Peabody's from The Daily Show; they live on his fireplace mantel on the show.

Jon OWNS Stephen's show--success for Stephen is success for Jon. If anything, Stephen has been working very hard to distinguish his show as being a compliment to, but not a repeat of, The Daily Show.

When my husband and I watched it last night, we were both delighted for Stephen, and while yes, he will rub in the Peabody award, I'm glad to see The Colbert Report be recognized by University of Georgia's Peabody program, since most of the other award shows have tended to dismiss the program.

As one of the more successful alums from TDS, I think that he has accomplished a lot in the 2-plus years he has had the show.

Uh, the laughing in Jon's face is a comic gimic they do together. Yes, we all know in reality they are friends.

I agree with NC4Obama. He wasn't rubbing it in Stewarts face. Although, I'm sure he will. I love both those shows. I wonder if Jon Stewart will be having McCain on any time soon?

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are opposite sides of the same coin. They helped me keep my sanity for the last 7 1/2 years.
I'm sure Stephen won't shut up about it for a month or two.

Congratulations Stephen!! Well deserved !!!

And the Smithsonian changed its mind on Stephen's portrait. Between all this and REM on his show, I don't know what was better. All of it was pretty cool.

Luv ya, Stephen, luv ya Jon.

I don't get it how was he gloating to Stewart or laughing at him. I think this headline/post is quite off.

Is this the same PEABODY that oreilly falsely claimed to have won???
The MOCKING of oreilly is a great mantra.
Now we know that the award committee has some good taste in their awards.

The Colbert Report is the most brilliant comedy show on television. Since Jon Stewart exec produces it, I'm sure he's as happy as anyone.

So deserved. Now...an Emmy (finally)?
