People! Stop buying houses (and anything else) you can't afford.

You can't afford a Macmansion on Wal-Mart wages, no matter what your freindly neighborhood real estate broker says.

I just e-mailed Pelosi, I'm e-mailing Reid next. If they do this, it is death to a democratically controlled congress and house in November. Forget getting a super majority, because to the typical american citizen, we will be no different than the republicans. This is some kind of set up, did a republican add this to the bill to aid the cities. Everyone now, goggle your senators and representives, call and e-mail them and tell them no way on the builders welfare. Corporate Welfare is a republican thing, not a democratic thing.

This is absolute insanity - let's pay more interest on more debt- how many did they overbuild that won't sell. Surely, when several hundred weren't selling they stopped building. If the dems vote for this, it could mean no majority in both houses, they will be seen as the republicans equal and will squash any chance at separating them from us.

This is precisely the kind of horseshit legislation one should expect from a GOP led Senate so why is it coming from one led by Democrats? Actually, the answer is fairly simple if you're as cynical about the two major parties as I am. I'm sure I'm not the only one reading this post who owns a home. Anyone care to venture a guess what a neighborhood full of rentals will do to home value? It certainly won't help maintain value and if history is any lesson, rentals substantial lower values. And wow, a $7,000. tax credit for those buying foreclosed homes...as if buying homes at fire sale prices wasn't enough incentive? Not only does this legislation help the wrong people and penalize homeowners in mortgage trouble but it screws people not currently in trouble. The fact that this legislation made it to the floor of the Senate serves testimony to who establishes policy in DC (hint: It isn't the politicians).

Here's an idea. Take the $4 billion worth of grants for cities and towns to buy and maintain foreclosed properties and give it to those who are losing their homes. Add in the $100 million for financial counseling. The powers that be are blaming the wrong people here. Giving tax breaks to those who buy vacant homes is giving the wrong people a break. They aren't the ones in trouble. This would only enrich the rich. The lenders would be in jeapardy if morgage rates were frozen? They are the idiots who created this mess and we are going to feel sorry for them? Yikes, the world is on its head! The CEO of Countrywide cashed in for $57 million! WTF!!!! You know, sooner or later the American people are going to take to the streets. How about cutting some of the money we give to other countries, which invariably goes into the ruling elite's pockets for gold faucets in their mansions, and giving it to OUR OWN PEOPLE! It is so damn obvious that our leaders WANT the demise of this country. Traitors, treasous traitors whose day will come.

MrC, where are you? Please come back. I miss you somethin' dreadful.

The Democrats should just shelve this bill .... And let the chips fall where they may.

My wife warned me, "this country needs to hit bottom before anything will change." And she looks to be right. Every chance of ending this housing mess is being milked to benefit the 'perps' who started it and promoted it.

Do you think it's too late to reclaim our government? Is there any way to recall each and every Congress person? Seems we'd be better off with NO ONE in Washington than the representatives that are there now. Regular citizens would be able to step in until we figure out how to proceed. The things that are happening right now are beyond scary--I feel like we're borderline Twilight Zone. The voters need to take action---it's time for these bought politicians to be dethroned.

I'm almost certain that Bush - a man of the people - will veto this ridiulous bill. The people will win!

Another disgrace for the U.S., this country is a joke. How about mentioning that in mid-February the NAHB announced that they would no longer make political contributions (in 2006 they were the 3rd highest contributing PAC) So i guess for a few million those elected officials gave them billions of our money.. Bribery anyone? DISGUSTING!!!!!!!

OK... Let's see the hands... Who here is shocked...SHOCKED! to have the Senate side with big business?
