The Carpetbagger Report:

With this in mind, it came as a bit of a surprise when CNN reported yesterday, "The McCain campaign said Wednesday the Arizona senator's medical records will no longer be released by April 15. They now say the new timetable is 'sometime in May.'"

My hunch is that there's probably nothing to this. If McCain had a serious medical problem that would interfere with his campaign or his ability to serve, it'd be insane for him to try to conceal it now.

But why, then, play these games?

whatever his faults, mccain is a man who, if he orderd a nuclear strike on moscow by mistake, would be man enough to go as close to moscow as radiation levels would permit, apoligize, and take full responsibility. i don't know what else you could ask him to do.

Maybe they finally found that Communist implant in McCain's brain during his Hanoi Hotel stay that will be activated as soon as he becomes POTUS.

he's 72 years old and his immune system, by virtue of his age and the human condition, is going down the drain. he's had melanoma, which is questionably on of the most deadly cancers there is. he spent how many years in a pow camp? that's bound to whack out the best of people.

i think it's valid to want to have some information on these things. had many americans known that bush was certifiably batsh#t crazy i doubt we'd be in the mess we're in today.

that being said, if there is even a HINT of a questionable psychological assessment after his incarceration, no matter how long ago, he's toast. i can understand him being nervous about it.

Who cares!

Even if McCain has a disease that will kill him 2 days after becoming president, why should that be a reason not to vote for him? Shouldn't we care more about substantive issues, like that he badly wants a win in Iraq to make up for Vietnam to the point that he's willing to ignore all reason.

Let's talk issues:
Why did Obama vote in 2005 for the CHENEY energy bill?
Why does McCain continue to support a failed occupation?
How can Clinton claim to champion gay rights when she is going to comprimise (you don't comprimise when it comes to civil rights)?

Who cares about their health? Who cares about their tax return (that's an issue for the IRS and FBI)?
Let's talk about issues, and here no candidate is better than the others, they all have deep, deep flaws.
To state otherwise is to be ignorant of reality.

There's probably a psychiatric evaluation that's not exactly positive.

mainstream media and the corporate world are comprised of old white men who, for the most part, are uncomfortable with doing things differently, also known as gravity sinking in. this means that they are going to support mccain, while trying to appear fair. how will obama cope with this problem? all of hillary's destructive statements about him will be played repetitively by republican ad campaign people.

The pattern continues: Hillary has huge leads in states until the voting draws near, Obama campaigns, voters hear and see candidates up close, and the gap closes to a very tight race. Then, if Hillary squeaks out a victory, she claims to be the ''comeback kid," when actually voters are deserting her. The more familiar voters come with Hillary's policies, peronsality, dishonesty and dirty campaign tactics, and the more Old Bill Clinton vents red faced and finger wagging, the more support Obama picks up.

The vast majority of this nation does not want Bill and Hillary back in the White House and more of the Bush-Clinton corporate serving, warmongering, mean-spiritied, politically divisive status quo.

Maybe, Pennsylvanians will sense their responsibility, step up, vote for the future, and send Bill and Hillary packing.

Hey, get this! I just heard on NPR this morning that John McCain has REFUSED all Secret Service protection. That proves he is unfit to command, unfit to serve, and lacks the basic COMMON SENSE to be a President! He was picked to lose from the start. I pray that Obama is the spoiler and not just another tool of the Conspiracy.

Why is this news?

Has Hillary released HER medical records?

Her husband never did. In fact, he enacted HIPPA, so everyones medical records are sealed by law.

Bill also wasn't in his 70s and wasn't going senile before our very eyes, not to mention that growth on McCain's face.

Call it ageism if you so desire, but it is a fact that as you get older, you are at higher risk of health problems and failure.

Jeez Timmy, can't you do better than that? There's an 11 year gap between McPain & Shillary, so that kinda shoots your argument in the foot, don't ya think?

The guy is 71 years old; the average human being doesn't live that long and not have health problems, and it's no big leap to suggest that such might very well be the reason McCain is hesitant to release those records.

All of that is true for an average, mostly healthy American who has never gone through the sort of deep trauma that McPain went through in the Hanoi Hilton; do ya think maybe his body is in worse than average shape because of all of that?

Sure you do, if you think about ...and really, even if a miracle happens and your guy gets elected, do we want a president who is likely to drop dead in the oval office and leave us with whatever yahoo he picks for a running mate?

No thanks there Timmy...you can back to thinking up GOP-counter attacks to HuffPo commenters now, I'm done with you.

Actually, I don't think that years of extended torture qualifies one to lead our country. I would much prefer intelligence, self-control, and analytical thinking, none of which McCain has. If anything, his experiences in Viet Nam disqualify him...his body and mind may be damaged in ways we don't know about until it's too late.

"I'm done with you."

Got to love Democrats. You always claim to be the Party of open minds, but when someone tries to engage you in a spirited debate, you run away. And Like Al Gore, you claim simply: "The Debate Is Over."

It seems to me that equal protection under the law requires, that if one candidate needs to release his records, ALL candidates need to. And if one President never did, there is no reason for any candidate to do so.

Age is only one factor. There are many serious diseases that are not age dependent. And life expectancy for a man who has reached 71 is 84. (roughly the same as a woman of 60)

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/STATS/table4c6.html

And you are wrong to assume that McCain is my candidate. Right now I'm hoping that he picks a real conservative running mate (in which case, a serious medical condition might be a reason to vote FOR him).

Maybe waiting on results of tests.

Lets just give the man a chance. Ones health cannot be hidden like bad acne. If he is sick it damn well will show up and doom every elderly candidate from here on.

I doubt if John McCain wants that as his legacy.

It is possible he may have some medical problems, but medical records really should be private. The truth is, he wouldn't have to release them. We shouldn't judge that so quickly.

Then again, how do we know there might not be some plan afoot by the republicans to replace McCain at the last minute by someone else? Given the way these guys operate, anything is possible.
