Richard Belzer will fill Randi Rhodes' 3pm-6pm time slot on Air America all next week, the Huffington Post has learned. Belzer is perhaps best known for his role on "Law & Order," where he plays Det. John Munch, but he is also a stand-up comedian as well as a Huffington Post blogger.

So, how long before Belzer calls Hillary a f***ing whore? I give him 3 weeks on the job before Air America fires him, too.

It's absurd for Air America to have Richard Belzer host for Randi Rhodes.

Those liberals among us who aren't stone freaking cold stupid have been hoping that Air America really make a strong showing, by replacing Randi with an edgy, take-no-prisoners advocate for Progressive Causes.

No offense to Belzer (I'm a huge fan) but he is NOT an appropriate substitute.

Mark Green, you have really screwed up, big-time.

While there is more than enough room for multiple liberal franchises, it is your job to supply one that is compelling and entertaining.

What is your goal, besides getting invited to some decent parties?

For shame!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:25 PM on 04/14/2008

Richard Belzer is NOT a host for Randi Rhodes. Richard Belzer is the guest host for Air America, and a darn good host at that. Do yourself the favour and listen to his show. Are you saying; AAR should stoop to the levels of O'Reilly and Limbaugh?
Yes, there is more than enough room for multiple liberal franchises. It is, however, an impossible dream to think that a radio talk show can be everything to all the people. I guess that's why some smart person invented the radio dial.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:37 PM on 04/16/2008

So he is Henry Winkler's relative and a Hillary Clinton lover, that won't make us want to listen anymore to Air America. We can hear Randi now on Nova M which many, many stations will carry in that timeslot.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:38 AM on 04/13/2008

I'm still a truthseeker. Welcome aboard Richard.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:10 PM on 04/12/2008

I'll miss you Randi, but best of luck with your new ventures... I think Belzer will do a decent job but I miss the days of Al, Jerry, Randi, & Rachel...I still don't know what the big deal was...it's called freedom of speech. I've heard Hillary called far worse. I have always felt that Bill Clinton was the best "Republican" president we had. He never acted like a real Democrat and certainly not a liberal one at that. I don't expect Hillary to be much different if she were elected.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:11 PM on 04/12/2008

Just as many people will NOT listen as didn't listen to Randi Rhodes.

Garbage in, garbage out.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:24 PM on 04/12/2008

I hope Belzer does some of the conspiracy stuff he is so good at.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:50 AM on 04/12/2008

I like Beltzer's writing, but am iffy on him as a comic.

I would actually prefer that AAR keep Seder, get him a slighlty more dynamic sidekick/co-host, and give him a whack at that timeslot.

Used to love the Majority Report - maybe they could recreate that in some way?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:10 PM on 04/11/2008

Belzer is going to have some stiff competition with Randi Rhodes on Nova M and Cenk Uygur on The Young Turks in the same time slot. I'm interested in hearing how he'll handle a radio show, but even if I like him, chances are I'll listen via podcast.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:44 PM on 04/11/2008

Cenk Uygur?

I thought Turks was a metaphor?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:52 AM on 04/12/2008

This guy is f***** horrible. Ever see him on BIll Maher's show?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:38 PM on 04/11/2008

I didn't think they wanted a stand-up comic.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:34 PM on 04/11/2008

He's still alive? Barely, it appears.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:21 PM on 04/11/2008

Grow up, Adult. He's looked like that for fifteen years now.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:31 PM on 04/11/2008

I do thoroughly enjoy Randi's show and her provocative nature. that being said I look forward to Belz. I can see both AAR's and Randi's points in this. Obviously the new management did not live up to Randi's expectations, and equally the new management had expectations of Randi she didn't match up with. So what's the big deal? simply promotion. As long as this stays in the spotlight, both Randi and AAR get attention....which is good.

Enjoy the commotion folks, I sure do.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:24 AM on 04/11/2008

Fuck AAR. The only person who should replace Randi Rhodes is Sam Seder, the best progressive talker out there.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:31 AM on 04/11/2008

I love Sam, too. He's too outspoken for the management. Not unlike others who are no longer at AAR. I think Sam will eventually end up at Nova M, just like Randi and Mike Malloy.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:42 PM on 04/11/2008

We need a replacement for Johnny Carson.
Should it be Letterman?
Maybe Jay Leno?

No only one guy can replace Johnny, Ed McMahon.

Seder could not even support Jeanine Garafalo.

Seder is second rate

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:46 AM on 04/12/2008

Belzer will thump for Israel - Randy did not. Clear channel is an Israeli front station. THAT is what's behind this. The good part is that traitorous organizations like Clear Channel are going to be replaced by freedom of speech on the web broadcasts..... and once that catches on Americans will be free of the Israeli propaganda in radio content.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:27 AM on 04/11/2008

huh. Randy is on her way back to a Clear Channel Station. Air America isn't owned by Clear Channel. I don't think you read the article

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:15 AM on 04/11/2008

Randi is as Jewish as the Belz,
no guarantee either will support
the nation state of Israel.

I think Fran Drescher. should replace Randi
the audience is used to a Brooklyn accent

This is off-topic, but: Anybody remember that movie "The Bone Collector"? About the embittered paraplegic solving crimes? Denzel Washington never EVER should have been cast for that....Richard Belzer was born to play Lincoln Rhyme.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:16 AM on 04/11/2008

If you want to truly get fanboy on THE BONE COLLECTOR's casting, howzabout how Angelina Jolie doesn't fit the physical description of Amelia in it: a 5'9" blue-eyed redhead like Jamie Luner or Emily Deschanel.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:19 PM on 04/11/2008

Oh, perfect ! I love Richard Belzer and his acid wit is always thought-provoking. They've had some real turkeys in that time slot lately...gabby men saying not much of anything, bland as can be.

I miss Randi.

But Richard? I'll go with that.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:13 AM on 04/11/2008

I can't wait for Mr. Belzer to eviscerate McCain and shred the tarnished and pitted republican / conservative brand. Eight years of their ruinous control has destroyed any credibilty these criminals may have thought they had in foreign policy, national security, ecomonic policy, all domestic policy...draining the treasury seems to be the guiding light in this adminstration. Good Luck Belzer!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:54 AM on 04/11/2008

I don't know what to think about Belzer subbing on AAR. On the one hand, he works for NBC Universal (which is owned by GE). Mark Green is tight with MSNBC/NBC. On the other, if he does sign a contract with them, I'll never watch him again.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:42 AM on 04/11/2008

Richard Belzer is an Obama supporter. So is Charlie Kireker, the new principal owner of Air America. The "new owners" that Randi blamed for her departure are Kireker and friends (not the Greens, who sold their controlling stake to Kireker).

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:58 PM on 04/11/2008

I'm leaving with Randi. You folks who criticize her have never listened to her program. You also don't believe, that during a stand-up act she should have freedom of speech. To bad. Another right denied. Meanwhile, maybe you have a better name for someone who will sell out her country, lie and cheat, share responsibility for the death of a million, share the responsibility for a million lost jobs, do all sorts of underhanded things behind closed doors, and then expect to be paid - as much as 110 million dollars. I think Randi hit it right on the head.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:42 AM on 04/11/2008

FreedomloverX,

You should reread the 1st amendment. It states Congress shall make no law....Tell me excalty how Ms. Rhodes right to free speech was infringed upon? There is no right for your employer to not infringe upon your free speech expcet in the case of whistle blowing.

But to folow your "logic" Imus should not have been canned. Opie & Anthony should not have been canned. There should be no FCC, no restricitons on movie viewing, signing a non disclousre agreement, standard pracitice in exit interviews etc.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:20 AM on 04/11/2008

People that condone such remarks like the ones Randi made are just losers. She got what she deserved.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:04 AM on 04/11/2008

"How DARE you say bad yucky words about that nice lady running for President!" you say.

THINK ABOUT what you are saying! The next time you say "Bush is a goddamn bastard" or "McCain is so fucked up" you better watch your back! I thought this country was all about being able to say what you want to.

And don't tell me this isn't about free speech. Yes, Randi was hired for her voice, her words... it is her job... but what if she had said "Hillary is a bitch" or "Hillary is a big, fat liar" or "Hillary stinks" or "Hillary is a shill for corporate America"??? Where do you draw the line?

And she said the oh-so-terrible word "whore" refering to selling out, not gender. And she said it in a drinking establishment to a small crowd. Think about it.

McCain called his wife a cunt, in public. Maybe he should apologize to his wife.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:10 PM on 04/11/2008

I do not believe for a second she quit. The w h o r e got fired and what she deserved.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:16 AM on 04/11/2008

Randi, the dirty whore got fired? If she can dish it, she can take it as well.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:15 AM on 04/11/2008

Last night on Mike Malloy's program (Mark Maron - once of Air America's "Unfiltered" - guest hosting) Randi explained that with a year left on her contract the new management at Air America sought to renegotiate terms not to hteir liking.

She pretty much stated outright that the whole controversy was actually started by the new owners of Air America to weaken her negotiating position. (The video of the San Francisco event had been posted on Green 960's web site for a week or more with nary a shudder from the blogosphere.) She said they told her they'd see how she handled the scorn and criticism of the public square. As they looked over new results of their research they found that her program was their number one dollar valued property and wanted to reinstate her with her contract without amendment IF she issued a formal apology for her remarks. As if she would ever do that.

Earlier this week Malloy used his show to talk about Randi's story and essentially invite her to join his network, which it seems she's now done. She'll resume her broadcast on Monday from her previous home base of West Palm Beach, Florida.

"It's Friday, ya b*st*rds!"

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:51 PM on 04/11/2008

Maron was on Morning Sedition, but other than that, your post is perfect.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:47 PM on 04/11/2008

Welcome, Richard Belzer. I always liked you and wish you well! But I like Sam too!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:11 AM on 04/11/2008

Belzer is top notch. Give him the permanent Air America slot, if he wants it. I read "UFOs, JFK and Elvis" - a terrific read. He uses good old common sense when making his arguments which is so often lacking in people with an agenda.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:54 PM on 04/10/2008

So we get to hear about UFO"s??? This program won't last long. Maybe the guided tour company of area 51 can sponsor the show

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:16 AM on 04/11/2008

Randi of course is now going to do the same time slot as before on Nova M. She has a silly story about how Air American released the video of her standup routine in order to somehow persuade her to change her contract, so she quit rather than meet their terms. I hope Air America hires someone good enough, in other words Sam Seder, to fill her time slot and compete with her.
