AP Chief Asks Barack About "Obama bin Laden"

Sen. Barack Obama quickly corrected a slipup about his name Monday at the Associated Press' annual luncheon in Washington, DC.

Dean Singleton, board chair of the Associated Press and a longtime newspaper executive, asked Obama about the possibility of shifting troops into Afghanistan to fight against the al Qaeda leader, calling him "Obama bin Laden," he said.

I am an supporter and contributor to Obama‘s campaign. I was shocked to see this topic here. I read it and also read the link from where it came: ABC News. I just finished listening to the entire luncheon talk in which the question was asked. In context, there was absolutely nothing sinister about the question. It was an honest slip of the tongue made by a man who was nervous. During the talk Mr. Singleton remarked several times that today was the first time they had ever sold out seats and thanked Mr. Obama for that. I surmise that even he was nervous. Obama remained calm. Mr. Singleton was nervous and he misread several words in the questioning part. He was nervous because even he knew that he was in the presence of a very likely next president. He made a simple slip.

Arianna, I have come to read your site a lot lately. But please stop the trashy sensationalism. You are contributing to the debasement of the discourse at this site. You very often use very inflammatory and misleading headlines. Here is the headline for this slip by ABC:

Once again stupidity passes for political discourse in the USA.

Dean Singleton is th bastard who is destroying what used to be a pretty decent newspaper, the Denver Post. It was sad to see it reduced to a shadow of a newspaper.

He is also the fool who over ruled his editorial Board to endorse Bush in 2004.

And put in an unprecedented and wildly hysterical front page editorial bashing unions after the newly elected Democratic Governor made a mildly pro union decision.

The man is despicable.

It didn't appear to me that it was intentional. It was an unfortunate slip. I call Obama Osama too many times to count so I know it is possible to do without meaning to offend.

From one person who thinks Obama is the "political messiah", this appeares like a slip up since the journalist stumbled over most of the question - appeared flustered and intimidated by the event. I will not add him to the others who do it inttionally. Of course we have seen such slip-ups happen far to many times that we are suspicous of these incidents

I do support Barack Obama. He has his falts. But Hillary has falts too. I used to respect the Clintons a great deal. But, with all of the lies and Penn still working for her, Bill making so much money from his overseas clients. And now the hate that spews from her mouth. I can't respect her anymore. My daughter had a signed photo of her from when she was first lady. She is 29 now and was so upset at what Hillary has done and said that she tore it up and droped it in the trash can. I have no real choice here. If she does get the nomatition We will not be voting this November. I can not vote MCain with the way he is on the war. I can not vote for a person so full of hate. Something has got to give. Enough already. I do not say this with hate towards anyone. I just wish we could all pull together for the good of our country.
