Obama's Lapel Pin Returns
As a reader noticed, Obama was sporting the much-debated flag pin for his speech to veterans today.

I hope Obama, after last night's debate especially, will now wear two American flag pins to symbolize and signal that he is twice as patriotic as everyone else in the country. No one wears two pins. Obama could win the "Most Patriotic" award hands down. "Why look Mabel, that man is wearing two flag pins...what a strong patriot he must be."
This story should not be on here it's not news and the media has a responsibility to not fan and spread lies and innuendo. The entirety of this story should have been put in the headlines, "Obama wears a pin given to him by a Vet." That represents the reality of this story and I'm sure when its presented like this we can all easily see how this is not really national news. It's careless, lazy reporting like this, when we know half the people in this country don't read past the headlines, that allows so many American's to walk around ignorant of factual information and instead only end up knowing catchy headlines full of half truths.
I agree with Obama that wearing an American flag pin does not automatically make you patriotic or humane.
Bush and Cheney would never been seen without their flag pin, yet they are the most unpatriotic and despicable characters ever to occupy the white house, they got us into an unjustified war, suspended habeas corpus, did illegal wiretapping, tortured prisoners and killed a lot of innocent civilians, destroying the good name that America once enjoyed throughout the world.
It would be helpful if the good people of The Huffington Post would make a reference in their short note that Obama was handed this pin by a disabled veteran prior to the speach. Because half of the people babbling on this blog are either unwiling or unable to read a complete article before commenting on it. No wonder Bush got releected...
The real problem, I think, is that the people who are unwilling to read the article wouldn't be moved by the facts even if they saw them. They're either mired in flawed conservative doctrine that has more to do with macho posturing than anything else, or, in the case of Hillary's supporters, they're just too angry about the whole thing to see straight. Both groups would rather believe what they already believe - the facts are irrelevant.
More H Y P O C R I S Y from Obama.
Its called pandering....like he was doing in San Fran.
Idiot. A disabled veteran handed it to him.
Is that what it took? He has to be forced to wear it or be embarrassed? LOL.
The why didnt Saint Obama hand it back and say "I think wearing this is hypocritial" as he is said in the past???
Oboma refused to wear the flag pin because all the war mongers insisted it meant you were patriotic, and he felt the war was unpatriotic...
I have to say the dead Iraqis in body bags with torture marks, and the one on the floor with his knees bashed and bleeding with smiling US soldiers posing above them is pretty unpatriotic.
But someone who said he was a returned wounded veteran gave him the pin, and he put it on saying it meant something coming from the vet.
MSNBC jumped all over him about going back on all he had said about the pin's shallowness..
until one of the pundits pointed out that no human being would refuse a gift from a vet and hand it to staff...
Can someone here post the link to the picture with the Iraqi streteched out on the floor in a pool of blood with his knees bashed in?
I want to send it to members of Congress.
Presumably since the Iraqis did not have WMD, and were not associated with Bin Laden or the 9/11 terrorist attack, our soldiers tortured innocents and Bush has now admitted he signed off on it.
I think that ranch in Crawford will be shunned as soon as he gets back there.
I still don't get it. What is the big deal about flag lapel pins. I don't know anyone who wears one. Wearing a pin signifies nothing.
Exactly, I wear the Jewish Star because it is a beautiful piece of jewelry but has no meaning for
me otherwise than decoration. I also wear the christian cross for the same reason though I
am an atheist. Too bad people think if you wear a lapel pin or attach pink ribbons to the trunk
or fly 2 flags in the car windows you are PATRIOTIC! What nonsense!
Jeezus, the pin matches his goddam tie! Leave the man alone, this isn't a fashion show.
The real story here is that the pin on Barack's lapel is actually the definition of Patriotism - - Given to him by a disabled vet who wears the flag pin out of love, pride & undeniable sacrifice for the United States of America. The US flag pin worn by Barack Obama was paid for in blood by someone who's earned the right to be called a true patriot, it holds a much heavier weight than say...politicians who obtain theirs at the White House gift shop.
This isn't a brand identifier or corporate logo people, please quit pretending it is.
No, but that remark makes you twice as idiotic.
No it doesn't and stop being rude...Frankly I think BO should come out tonight wearing the American flag, and officially change his name to Luvin America!
read the whole article... it was given to him at the event by a veteran... and he was speaking to veterans
I would like to add that it was a "disabled American veteran" who gave him the flag pin, and out of respect to that veteran and the price he paid for our freedom, Barack put the pin on to honor that veteran's service to his country. I agree with Barack that just wearing a lapel pin doesn't prove a person is patriotic, but when given this gift the whole symbolism changed. Barack always says that we can work together to resolve our differences, and in this case that's exactly what he did. When you see him wearing that flag, you'll know that he's thinking of that DAV. I also notice he's still wearing the bracelet given to him by the mother of a fallen soldier a few weeks back.
but according to the out of touch in the media you are not supposed to realize the difference between wearing a pin to honor the sacrifice of that soldiers and others and wearing a pin as a substitute for real patriotism .
True. And imagine the uproar if he had NOT put the pin on. For god's sake, they crucified him for supposedly not having his hand over his heart in some spontaneous photo snapped. A pin from a vet? He would have been dead meat if he had handed it off to an aide.
Obama says often he is not an ideologue, the philosophy of the 21st century is called "common sense", thats what is winning in this election.
OMG people really, if Obama would have taken the pin from the disabled vet and thanked him and put it in his pocket everyone would have said he's UN-American, CNN and FAUX news plus ABC would have labeled him as against the military, and Hillary would have worn a Flag embleshed pants suit while opining that Obama took that poor vets pin and snubbed him. So, he did the right thing, he thanked the veteran for his service to the country and told him he would be honored to wear it. I cannot believe the pettiness of the American public during this campaign. Maybe some of you should just realize that you will never vote for Obama irregardless of what he does and quit posting or watching anything with him doing anything, then you can rally around dear Hillary while she wears her guns and shoots down boilermakers!
You just gave me a visual of Hillary showing up at her next campaign event, wearing a red white and blue suit like Evel Knievel--with the cape and cane, also. If she thought it would win her the election, she'd hop on a Harley and jump it over 22 school buses.
lol Hillary supporters should realize it makes significantly more sense for it to be a Clinton or McCain plant than an Obama one. By having the veteran offer him the pin he was put in a position where he is either accepts the pin and is attacked for flip flopping or refuses the pin and is attacked for not being patriotic. Neither is exactly the position you would have your own campaign plant put you into.
Here is a link to a quote/article and the video from today:
http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/04/15/flag-flap-behind-him-obama-pins-old-glory-to-lapel/
At the time, Obama said patriotism was more than just a pin. "I"m less concerned about what you are wearing on your lapel than what"s in your heart," he said. "You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those ones who served."
The quote I posted above was from the PAST.
The video was from this morning with his words from today.
Perfectly put, he never said he would never wear a pin, and now those who mistreat veterans or claim homeless veterans dont exist can state their patriotic stand.
