Pat Buchanan Tells Rachel Maddow To "Hold The Marxist Dialectic"

During MSNBC's coverage of the Pennsylvania primary results Tuesday, Pat Buchanan got into a debate with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow about the significance of Obama being unable to finish off Hillary Clinton. In the midst of their discussion, Maddow argued that there was no connection between Obama's ability to beat Hillary Clinton and his ability to beat John McCain. How did Buchanan respond? Rather nonsensically, in that he advised Maddow to "hold the Marxist dialectic."

These people dictate the obviously rightwing slant of the "news" coverage, from WHAT gets covered to HOW it gets covered.Try watching international news and you will see how badly we in this country are jipped out of real news, and given nothing but propaganda and distraction.The whole news cycle today is about REV. That is how patriotic he is.And thus we circle back to the fact that we only get to know what is beneficial to the right for us to know. Pat is a nice, well meaning, old man who has a set of bias that is well known. He's pretty far to the right and so he thinks all on the left are Marxist. I was surprised Rachel didn't come back on air. She's has her own bias. We all do. The point is we cannot all be either all wrong or all right. What we can do is listen to each other's views and really consder the other view by thinking on it. This country will sink deeper into despair if we don't listen. It's really too bad that there is no news company that can present both views and those views in the middle without being judgemental.

Usually, I very much agree with your approach--we all need to try to be more rational and show a lot more respect for each other's opinions. I've been campaigning for exactly the same thing in other threads.

But the problem is NOT Buchannan's irrascability--we could overlook that. The problem is that he is outwardly biggoted, homophobic, and disdainful of others. Those are not opinions or biases--they are forms of hate. And hatred is not WORTHY of respect--or even tolerance.

Otherwise, I totally agree with you--when someone states a heartfelt opion that is RESPECTFUL of others, it should be respected, as well--even if we RESPECTFULLY disagree. We all need to encourage more of that kind of interaction. But Buchannan has never been known for being respectful of others, so It just doesn't seem to apply in this case.
