Robin Roberts Wigless

The New York Post's Michael Starr writes about Robin Roberts' shedding her wig on yesterday's "Good Morning America." Roberts, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last fall and has completed chemotherapy and radiation, walked the runway without her wig in February as part of GMA's "I Dare You" series, but yesterday was the first time she took her wig off on the set. Starr writes:

For the past six months you've turned on your TV in the morning and have seen me wearing a wig," Roberts said, flanked by Diane Sawyer, Sam Champion and Chris Cuomo.

"I never wanted my appearance to distract from my job of bringing you the news of the day," she said.

"But I knew when my chemo treatments ended in January, my hair would slowly start to grow back.

"I've taken my cue from people here and from viewers, especially [cancer] survivors . . . who said, 'When it's time to literally flip your wig, you'll know,' " Roberts said. "I am not my hair," she said, quoting from the song by India.Arie. "I am the soul that lies within and that's it - no more wig. That's it." Roberts will auction her wig to raise money for a charity that helps "those who don't have insurance and can't afford this."

Robin,
YOU GO, GIRL!!!
You are a shining star, inspirational, talented, and lovely beyond words.
I just shaved my hair because the medications I take had my hair falling out all over the place. Well, my husband gave me a haircut yesterday that any guy would be proud of.....he loves it, and so do I!!
It's not about hair, girlfriend. There are a lot more reasons than hair to continue to do what you do, and as well as you do it!
Count me as one of your bald-headed sisters.....

You can just tell by looking at her, hearing her and seeing her interactions with other people that she is top drawer. Truly a class act.

Robin,

I recently shaved my head as part of the greiving process over losing my wife of 23 years. I'm sorry that your reason for hair loss is so much more immediate and life threatening. I wish you speed and permanence in your recovery. What you are doing is very brave, and makes you all the more attractive. If you'd like to rub bald heads together sometime, the invite is always open.
