Barack Obama has picked up another superdelegate endorsement, this one from New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman. It is Obama's 14th nod from a fellow senator, meaning he has slightly edged past Hillary Clinton for those endorsements.

According to the roster kept by The Hill, that gives Obama puts him ahead of Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's 13 fellow senators.

Obama is catching up to Clinton in the number of endorsements from House members as well, according to The Hill's list. She has 84 on her side. He has 79.

Here's the Obama campaign statement on Bingaman:

Today, United States Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) endorsed Barack Obama for president, citing his ability to rise above the issues that divide us, end the war in Iraq, bring universal health care, and make America energy independent.

Senator Bingaman said, "Today, I am announcing my support for Barack Obama for president and declaring my intention to vote for him at the Democratic convention.

"Our nation faces a daunting number of critical challenges: reasserting America's leadership in the world, meeting our needs for energy independence, addressing global warming, making healthcare accessible and affordable, positioning our economy to effectively compete globally, and extricating ourselves from the war in Iraq, to name a few.

"To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction.

"I strongly believe Barack Obama is best positioned to lead the nation in that new direction."

Senator Obama said, "I'm grateful today to have Senator Bingaman's support. Senator Bingaman has been speaking out in the United States Senate on some of the most pressing issues of our time - saving our environment, fighting global warming, and making America energy independent. Senator Bingaman has been an important advocate in the energy debate, and has served the people of New Mexico for decades, giving voice to the issues that matter to families across the state. We are proud to have his support as we fight to bring about real change for families in New Mexico and across the country."

Senator Jeff Bingaman is the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He has served in the United State Senate since 1982, and previously served as New Mexico Attorney General.

Hi I'm new to this sight and I want to say that there are alot of insightful people on here and I really enjoy reading all the input.

I just heard that Chandler of (KY) (My home state) and (MA) Paul Kirk (DNC) will be endorsing Obama today.

I wonder, though, if NC's gov supports push polling and manipulative press events staged by the Clintons?

OMG! REV. WRIGHT WAS SET UP BY CLINTON SUPPORTER! OBAMA IS NOT DONE, STU-PID. The majority of the Superdelegates are getting sick and tired of the Clintons dirty politics! Hillary will be put out of her misery soon enough!

http://digg.com/politics/Hillary_Supporter_ORGANIZED_Rev_Wright_at_Press_Club

Should have know the Clintons were behind this! They obviously tried to sabotage the Obama campaign once again by propping up the Reverend once again into the media.

What won't these people do to get elected? Screw the average working class? Oh I forgot, they already did with NAFTA and banking deregulation! Now the working class they hoodwinked not only lost jobs to China and India, they are losing their homes as well. Oh and they're not done yet...they're very busy promoting CAFTA with the Colombians. Thank you, Bill and Hillary!

By the way, there's another article out there: the Canadian government lied about what the Obama surrogate told them about NAFTA, all along it was the Clinton surrogate who assured them NAFTA wouldn't be touched after GE. Someone in the Canadian press has been researching this story. Turns out a dirty Canadian government official conspired with the Clintons to switch the story with the press! So the Clintons did screw blue collar workers in PA AND in Ohio afterall! HAAAAA!

That's what you get for continuing to trust the Clintons!

A question for HuffPo:
Why does a headline that Hillary won an endorsement have Obama's picture above it and lead to this article about him? Sheesh!

Thank you Senator Bingaman for choosing Obama, we can use many more, to stop the negative he has been receiving these past weeks, Obama has taken a beating from all sides, you will be blessed for your effort.

Thanks to the Gov. and Senator from New Mexico-apparently they have backbones and minds of thier own down there-or at the very least they don't require confirmation that thier endorsement will result in payback when the final votes are counted . There is something very admirable about someone who stands up to be counted when the outlook is unclear and they are faced with the wrath of the Clinton Machine! Take notice super delegates-you too could grow some dignity.

Greg, I appreciate your sentiment, but I don't think your organization's name is in the spirit of the kind of campaign that Senator Obama is trying to run. What would we say if there was a support group called "Whites for Obama?" People would rightfully upset. I put this in the same category with that race-baiter Nutter filiming the "I know you're wondering why I'm endorsing Hillary" commercial. Let's be for Obama or Clinton as Americans, not any one particular ethnic group.

YES, I check this link daily and UNFORTUNATELY Obama's polls have gone down all across....

Fickle Americans, it doesn't take much to change our minds....

As of NOW, OBAMA is the only one who can help us turn around, if we stay the course...McCain, Clinton, we are DOOMED!!!!! Preacher Wright or not!

TIME TO BECOME PROGRESSIVE like the YOUNG and INTELLECTUALS who support OBAMA, in other words those who get IT and truly care about the FUTURE.
IT IS PAST TIME TO WAKE UP

Even with all the media bias and bigotry against Obama.....he will rise to the top!...He's a good man and deserves to be given a chance to try to get America back on its feet again. It's so sad to see all the frenzy the media is creating with this Rev. Wright issue, and people say that he's was the media darling.....wrong ! He never was and never will be .it was a smoke screen created by the media to fool ignorant people and to divide us.

Do you really want Americans to base their votes on what any group in a foreign country says? Really? You want us to be vulnerable to that kind of manipulation? The correct response to this endorsement, if that's what you want to call it, is SO WHAT?

Deb,

Good to see another Marylander for Obama. I recently made a matching donation to the Obama campaign with someone named Debbie from MD -- would that be you, per chance?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:11 PM on 04/28/2008

Yep. I can see it now, more right wing talking points about how Senator Clinton won New Mexico, so all supers have to go for her. If that were the case, Obama should get some of her supers from Wisconsin, Missouri and Minnesota. You don't see that happening. The supers will make their decisions accordingly.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:11 PM on 04/28/2008

Aren't superdelegates supposed to vote as their states went? Last time I checked, Clinton won...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:07 PM on 04/28/2008

I'm sure some of that first 100 that endorsed her wide load without even a single vote being cast are from some of SEnator Obama's states that he won. Now what

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:09 PM on 04/28/2008

EyeWantOneNation is right: superdelegates can vote for whomever they want.

The superdelegate system is one that "we the people" need to get rid of over the next four years. There are those that claim that since they are elected by the people, they should also be entrusted to respect the will of the voters. Uh-uh... they were put into place to distinctly override the will of the people if they(we) were to elect a candidate the party didn't feel had a chance to win in Nov.

As much as we all want to win, is this truly democratic? We only support superdelegates when their votes go our way. Let's consider getting rid of the electoral college as well, and go by the popular vote. This will allow a wider range of candidates to run for office.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:50 PM on 04/28/2008

No - not at all. Super delegates are allowed to vote for the candidate of their choice. They do not have to follow any state of district requirements.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:22 PM on 04/28/2008

New Mexico split. Hillary did win but by less than 1%, so he and Bill Richardson are following the will of the people. As of right now, some of the other Supers from here are very pro Clinton so they will both get super delegates from here. That is a reflection of the votes cast.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:16 PM on 04/28/2008

They are supposed to vote for the best candidate and there is no rule about voting for their state. Clinton also has superdelegates from states won by Obama.
