Miley Cyrus To Skip First Public Appearance Since Vanity Fair Photo

ORLANDO, Fla. — Miley Cyrus made an appearance at Disney World, but won't be sticking around long enough for the media to join her.

Cyrus will not be attending Friday's red carpet event at the resort as planned, Walt Disney World spokesman Gary Buchanan said Thursday. It would have been her first public event since Vanity Fair published photos this week that have thrown her status as a role model for young girls into question.

For weeks she'd been scheduled to appear at the media party, along with dozens of other Disney Channel stars in town to film the "Disney Channel Games," a charity competition. Buchanan did not elaborate on why Cyrus is no longer expected.

The 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana" did spend some time at the resort on Thursday, however, signing autographs for children and taking photos with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, images Disney provided to The Associated Press show. Cyrus was dressed in a modified sports jersey, rolled-up cutoff jeans and yellow sneakers.

The Vanity Fair photos, showing Cyrus' bare shoulders and back, were taken by renowned celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. She and the magazine defended the pictures, saying the singer, her parents and her handlers approved of the images during the shoot.

Cyrus said earlier this week that she was "embarrassed" by the pictures and apologized to fans.

I can't think much of him either... absolutely stupid. (and most of those defending her are of her age group and haven't a clue, or an inkling to understand other points of view and WHY the photo shoot would be deemed unacceptable. )

The photographs and video of she and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, to were much more disturbing than the portrait. Their posing didn't do much for the "daddy's girl" image that BRC tries to sell to the public. Daddy doesn't treat their little girls like he did in the video and the daughter doesn't gaze at daddy like he is her boyfriend.
And why was he even in the photographs and video? Trying to be the big man? Yuck and double yuck.

There is, in fact, a huge range of potions between "a long procession of hooded, penitent monks," and an adult society that sends its children the message that looking like pedophile bait is cool. If Miley and her buds had taken those photos, I'd be amused. For her father and a major magazine to pimp her like that is far to reminscient of the Britney Spears virginity sweepstakes for my taste.

I really hope that Miley takes her millions and takes a sabbatical for a while from Disney and especially her father Billy Ray , who is pushing her to have the career he couldnt have. She still has a chance of being a normal human being, but not if she gets totally destroyed by Disney and Daddy. Then she will turn into another Britney, Lohan , Olsen twins, or worse. She has a great voice, a lot of talent. She could make it without being used like this.
