Today, Time debuts its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The list is broken down into five categories: Leaders & Revolutionaries, Heroes & Pioneers, Scientists & Thinkers, Artists & Entertainers, and Builders & Titans.

The usual suspects — Bush, Clinton, Obama, McCain, Dalai Lama, Putin — are all on the list, as well as some surprises. The full list can be accessed here, but the media personalities named among the world's most influential include:

The winners will be honored at a gala in New York next week.

This one is really interesting - the head of the Eastern Orthodox Church says that healing the environment is a spiritual imperative:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,28804,1733748_1733757_1735535,00.html

"This brave and visionary pastor has given a completely new sense to the ancient honorific; his work puts squarely on our agenda the question of how we express spiritual responsibility for the world we live in."

Time is so full of itself. This list and the 'Person of the Year' are just marketing ploys, nothing more. In fact, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition is a better idea and a better value if you want to purchase it. Time has a 'paint by numbers' quality to the magazine, just fill in the blanks and print it.

Let me see now , Suze Orman is one of Time Magazines's 100 most influential persons but Maria Bartiromo isn't.

What stupidity and it shows the list to be an absolute total joke.

Wait till Jon Stewarts gets wind of it and puts in is proper perspective.

Bartiromo will give you more "influential" financial information in ten minutes than all the Orman books combined .

I remember years ago watching Orman on the local Washington, D.C. PBS station and her advice to those considering a comfortable retirement , they should save as much money as they can while they are young.

DUH!!!!!

It must pain Jeremiah Wright that he's been left off the list. Maybe Barack's situation will give him an opportunity for next year.

It pains me that I'm not on the list.

Oh never mind... I just found my name.

in a related development, obama is the only one of the 100 most influential to also be included on the list of 100 most apologetic people in the world. not only is he the first to be on both lists at the same time- (nixon made both lists, but in different years)- but he is also the first nonanglo on the list of 100 most apologetic people in the world. joining barack on this year's list of 100 most apologetic: andrew sullivan, larry craig, david schuster, john edwards, and special late edition miley cyrus.

WINDBAG RUSSERT!
Were Russert so substantive he would have asked his Pope, “why do Vatican officials and the Pope call the catholic pedophilia priest problem, ‘the American problem’?" Rather than acknowledging well documented, widespread, cases of worldwide pedophilia priests within the Catholic Church.
Russert said “he met the Pope but couldn’t think of anything to ask him.” How about “why is the Pope sheltering Bernard Law?”
Russert, Scarborough, Matthews, every catholic journalist and catholic in politics must be asked “why are they still members of the Catholic Church; when the Catholic Church shelters pedophiles?"
Are Rev. Wright’s comments worse than an institution that protects pedophilia priests and, calls the depravation, "the American problem," while ignoring the problem in other countries?
Teens from polygamist sects called “lost boys” feel the abuse they endured is worse than all of the angry words of Wright. Meanwhile, child brides suffer rape without any of the outrage that has surrounded Wright.
Which is worse; the ranting of Wright or, the scarred lives of children harmed by adults who are sheltered by religious institutions?
Russert has not called McCain out as the hypocrite he is, and don’t air nonstop comments made by Hagee and other "agents of intolerance."
Russert and McCain's MSM buddies sold who America lies about the war don't care that McCain will continue Bush/Cheney policies; their sons and daughters are not fighting in the war and their standard of living is not being affected by the economy.

Tim Russert influential?? Jeez, how low can TIME go?! If their list was for the 100 most over-rated, overpaid, conceited, pompous windbags, THEN Timmy-boy's name would be rightly listed therein.

What I love is on the main page, they've got a "Let us know who's on your list!" link. I think of all the sad idiots who go there not realizing how little Time (or anyone else) cares what they think.
