Friends of the Earth Action, a national environmental group based in Washington, D.C., announced today that it is endorsing Senator Barack Obama to be the nation's next president.

"We endorse Senator Obama because we believe he is the best candidate for the environment," said Friends of the Earth Action President Brent Blackwelder. "The 'gas tax holiday' debate is a defining moment in the presidential race. The two other candidates responded with sham solutions that won't ease pain at the pump, but Senator Obama refused to play that typical Washington game. Instead, Obama called for real solutions that would make transportation more affordable and curb global warming. He showed the courage and candor we expect from a president."

From the teamsters to any other group that endorses Obama.......it's all about jobs in our country! I don't care if it's the Girl Scouts of America; if they are helping to clean up the environment or rebuild the infrastructure of this country whether it be with their investments, time, ideas, technology, etc., they are IMPORTANT! Glad they are on our team!

On CNN Ballot Bowl today in a speech in Gastonia, N.C., I am quite sure I heard Hillary say that "you can say anything whether it is factorial or not in a campaign." CNN has the tape.

(I am quite sure I heard Hillary say that "you can say anything whether it is factorial or not in a campaign." )

Hillary did say that about LYING OBAMA. Her entire speeches are great. You should listen sometime.

Her speeches pander to the undereducated who she knows will not follow up on anything she says. Her speeches about the closing of Magnaquest are perfect examples of this.
I have listened to her speeches and Senator Clinton is a serial liar. Period.

I get a chuckle everytime a see a die hard HRC supporter call Obama a liar. After the Bosnian lie, I would suspect that is would be safer to avoid any talk of lying.

If anything gasoline is still too cheap. Too bad the extra profits the oil companies aren't going to repair our crumbling transportation infrastructure. It doesn't matter how cheap gas is if you don't have decent roads and bridges to drive on. I think a 50 cent tax increase per gallon would be a good start, maybe as much as a dollar. Then eliminate the income tax for anyone making less than $30,000 a year and repeal Bush's tax cuts for the rich.

So, I am assuming that you would want everyone but you to pay any tax at all?

I am so happy to see the great awakening of the Americans people.. I know not all people will support Obama, either because they see only his Black side of his heritage, the Pastor who is not running for office or will have nothing to do with the Candidate. Such Mo'rons that think small... They will never ever think big..

To think big is to THINK OBAMA 08'

Or the fact they WOMEN (ZOMBIES) are voting for Hillary with out KNOWING one damn thing about her extreme CROOKED PAST AND PRESENT..
She was raised Republican only to adorn the Democratic party but has the Republicans ethical and morals of selling her soul to the Rich, Lobbyist and Special Interest that is killing our country''s Healthcare, economy and Earth environment..

I am so Happy that there are people who are not duped to fall for more poltical BS that Hillary is spewing..

This is the most Fraudulant person in Politics.. Bill and Hillary just to need quit poltics and do something with their lives instead of pimping the PEOPLE OF AMERICA with more BS and Adultery in your face...

Eliot Spitzer the Gov of NY is the best friends of BILLARY.. Go figure...

Hillary followed Mccain with the tax Holiday,, That should tell you she has NO SOLUTIONS..

JUST BS, AND LOTS OF IT!!!!

Lying about the Clintons Clinton hater is never, ever going to get your liar, anti-American and racist into the WH.

I wonder when Wright is going to drop the bomb on Obama? All the dirt Obama has in his past and present. Larry Sinclair, Don Young, Rezko, Ayers, and on and on and on. Tick tock, tick tock Obama leaves the race.

sad part about this...is IF hillary gets the nomination...repubs will NOT have to make up swiftboating ads about the clintons. they can completely destroy the clintons based on his and her lies, corruption, greed and scandals. anyone who thinks obama's manufactured scandals will be more damning than clintons' REAL scandals is not a rational individual. Thankfully, there are more reasonable people in this country.

From the New York Times, Sept. 5, 2000

"The Friends of the Earth, an environmental group that had endorsed Bill Bradley in the Democratic primaries and seriously flirted with supporting Ralph Nader in the general election, has decided to endorse Vice President Al Gore, officials with the group said."

"Brent Blackwelder, president of Friends of the Earth, said in an interview on Sunday that the organization's political action committee had agonized over whether to support Mr. Nader, the Green Party candidate for president, because he shared their views on trade and many other major issues. By comparison, the group said in a statement, it ''knows the environmental disappointments with Gore.''

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
The burning question now is, "Who does Earth First support?"

I know this is a little off topic, but I feel it needs to be said. I'm tired of all the snipes from both sides. I'm a neo-con as you folks on The Huffington Post like to call me , don't mind that, sort of like it, but what I do not like is all the people calling other people racist, nazi, Idiot, and the language on here is a lot of times terrible. I know politics just like religion can make some people livid. Most of the bad language, and name calling is not needed to get your point across. I know what I'm saying will go in one ear and out the other to some of you on here, but I just felt I had to say something. All this bad language, and name calling does, is to show how trivial some peoples lives are. I think we all need to agree to disagree, and quit all this other garbage, and thats all it is. is garbage.

For 35 years we have been told BIG corp. tax breaks were so they could invest in refiners and new tek.
And how much good has the Alaskan oil pipe line done us? All the oil goes to Japan and make big oil more $$$$. And how much good will more drilling do if BIG OIL can sell it for more to Asia and make more$$$$$.

Try this math, Bye less -Pay less

How interesting. Hillary actually has a better environmental record than Barack. But Friends of Earth must have looked at this Gas Tax thing and decided Hillary wasn't concentrating on the long-term strategy. They must think she will be vulnerable to oil company pressure if she gets into office.

I don't know whether I believe that or not, but I'm glad support for the Gas Tax Holiday has repercussions. It's a terrible idea.

NELLIE says- "Hillary actually has a better environmental record than Barack".

Besides Friends of the Earth- the League of Conservation Voters, the American Wilderness Coalition, the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund and the American Wind Energy Association all rate members of congress annually. Both candidates rate well, but it is Obama who is rated higher.

Stop repeating what you hear on FOX and read on bumperstickers and do the research.

Putting a little cash in the pocket? It's like gramma giving you enough for an icecream cone when you really need a new energy-efficient freezer!

I got a new fridge last year. My annual energy consumption went down by 800kWh. For an average energy mix that makes 800lbs less carbon dioxide a year and maybe some 6 tons less over the lifetime of the freezer.

Little steps go a long, long way.

Yes we can!

thr problem with your metaphor is the same as the problem with Obama's argument. This isn't an either / or proposition. You can do BOTH and that is what Clinton proposes.

Obama claims the dollars saved will be minimal, but then claims the dollars saved will cause people to drive more. You can't have it both ways. If the savings are big enough to make people drive more, then the savings aren't minimal.

It is my belief that the people who NEED these savings will be using them to help pay for food, not to buy MORE gas. And, anyone who doesn't need the savings wouldn't increase their use of gas based on this tax.

Thank you for a sane and rational endorsement.

On Gore: He and the groups and individuals who work with him, have brought a real horror story to the attention of those of us who almost always prefer sound bites to the kind of in-depth coverage that global warming has received. One of the main reasons that he has been able to achieve successful issue recognition in such a relatively short time, has been his non-partisan, all-inclusive approach to presenting the issue.

The fact that he has been able to achieve tremendous headway in the face of strong opposition from an administration that is totally corrupted by big oil, should give us an indication of the strides that can be made with an administration that is actually willing to sit down, listen to the evidence and tackle the associated problems. It's going to take a concerted effort to affect positive change. This is a huge problem that faces much opposition from those corporations who have the most to lose.

As such, I think it best that we give Gore some "endorsement" space. He is working towards a just cause, and it will need consensus and support from whoever wins. I believe we should respect his decision to wait. Al Gore should be heading a fully government supported and substantially funded effort to solve this problem in short order, no matter who wins. Give him some slack.

You forgot in your "sit down, listen to the evidence and tackle the associated problems" sentence to add "roll up your sleeves" and "get to work". But as I heard on a videotape of a Hillary water bearer, Obama can't "roll up his sleeves" cause of all the needle marks. And when was the last time you saw someone "like him" "get to work"? Just in jest folks, but I wouldn't put anything past her. Oh, oh wait a minute, we're suppose to be past this acrimony. I see Lucy holding the football, I'm going for a field goal.
