Obama, Clinton Air Last Minute Ads In North Carolina And Indiana

The Indiana and North Carolina primaries are tomorrow, and the Democrats are running new ads right up the wire. The latest batch have come in just today, with Clinton attacking Obama over her gas tax proposal, and Obama attacking Clinton for attacking him (using the New York Times as a foil).

Clinton is running ads in both states, while Obama's newest ad is only in Indiana- a sign, perhaps, of confidence of his chances in the Tarheel state.

See the ads below along with their transcipts, and check out the links below for all the latest HuffPost coverage of tomorrow's contests.

Chris Cizzila weighs in on what the two ads say about the candidates:

Over the past two months or so some of that shine has worn off Obama as he has been beset by the ongoing controversy over Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his own comments about small town voters being "bitter" about their life circumstances.

The latest Clinton ad seeks to tie into that emerging narrative, asking "What happened to Barack Obama?" The more Clinton and her campaign can cast Obama as just another politician, the better the chance she has of making the case that she is the better choice for a general election....

As the campaign has developed, Clinton has seen the number of people who believe her to be honest and trustworthy plummet. Obama's ad is aimed at reinforcing that notion in voters' mind, asking them to ask themselves whether they can believe anything that Clinton says at this point. If Obama can convince voters that Clinton is a flawed messenger, her attacks on him -- no matter how pointed or on point -- will be ineffective.

Hillary's ad is all about her plan. Obama's ad is all about Hillary. It's pretty clear who has a plan and who doesn't.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:52 PM on 05/06/2008

Hillary's plan is about a policy choice that isn't supported by a single expert. But she's on a whole Bush phase of her political life, so who needs experts? She'd rather ponder to the working class morons than develop a solid plan.

And to clarify, not all working class people are morons. Only the people who buy into Hillary's BS are.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:09 PM on 05/06/2008

Actually, Hillary's ad is about a misleading promise for a plan that will never be.
Obama's ad is representative of what his platform is... ending the very kind of misleading promises Hillary relies on to sucker....eh... convince people to vote for her.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:56 PM on 05/06/2008

I find it interesting that HIllary has to resort to deceptive tactics to get ahead; that she has to get the votes from cross-voting republicans following Operation Chaos to stay in the race; that she has to resort to pandering to voters with promises that rely on their ignorance of the issue in order to get their votes.

And all that criticize Obama for 'outspending' her... he is competing with the Clinton 'Brand'... there are still Americans that 'believe' Obama is Muslim. He MUST spend that money to level the playing field and get his name out there to people that have never even heard of him, except from MSM coverage that happens to rely on "Wright/Lapel Pin/Patriotic" nonsense.

And I find it interesting that I hear more and more Hillary supporters use this as reasoning for supporting her... because of the cynical view that Americans are too ignorant to vote on merit and quality, and instead on superficial and petty nonsensical issues. Ya'll must be proud of yourselves and your fellow citizens, eh? ;)

The Anti-Obama, Anti-Wright, GOP Model Has Been Tested -- And It Failed
The Republican brand has been so badly damaged that if Republicans try to run an anti-Obama, anti- Reverend Wright, they are simply going to fail.

But the voters in all six states had adopted a simple position: "Not you." No matter what the GOP Senators attacked their opponents with, the voters shrugged off the attacks and returned to, "Not you."

The danger for House and Senate Republicans in 2008 is that the voters will say, "Not the Republicans."

Republicans Have Lost the Advantage on Every Single-Issue Poll
A February Washington Post poll shows that Republicans have lost the advantage to the Democrats on which party can handle an issue better -- on every single topic.

Americans now believe that Democrats can handle the deficit better (52 to 31), taxes better (48 to 40) and even terrorism better (44 to 37).

This is a catastrophic collapse of trust in Republicans built up over three generations on the deficit, two generations on taxes, and two generations on national security
OBAMA FOR PRESIDO,REPUBS DEAD

The Rep loss in the special election for Louisiana's Sixth Congressional District last Saturday IS AN EVIDENCE for Republicans:Congressional Republicans are going to suffer decisive losses this Nov.

The facts are clear .

Saturday's loss was in a district that President Bush carried by 19 percentage points in 2004 and that the Republicans have held since 1975.

The lady is a sneak...what can you say about it. She gets away with just about every lie there is to be told. Can the media see through all this and report it how she is wrong for America? It is Shameful to see this lady in the same stage as Obama. She is so trashy I can't imagine why American cannot see through her. I used to say the same thing about Bush and now I am saying this about her. The only difference is that she will be out of this race very soon. We need someone who will unite America not slice it harder. Go Obama!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:02 AM on 05/06/2008

Hillary supporters honestly believe that what we need is a lying, delusional, manipulative bully that ignores experts. They want someone that will propose solutions (i.e. gas tax holiday) that have a 0% chance of occuring - but "feels good". They want a mass murdering psychopath that will destroy a nation (Iran) just to make voters feel good. In short, they want a pipe dream - a haze of opiate B.S. to cloud their reasoning while they slowly starve to death in a haze of pollution while working three jobs. If Hillary wins, I strongly suggest investing all your money in the military-industrial complex, that will be the only way to benefit.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:57 AM on 05/06/2008

On point .

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:37 PM on 05/06/2008

Funny how Obama outspends clinton by 300% and still Clinton wins.
That raises huge questions about Obama's electibility.
He's a fringe candidate with an extreme liberal following but he cannot unite America.
Clinton is a moderate candidate who can represent both sides of this country.

Obama and his racist Black Liberation Theology religion has alienated most Americans.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:16 AM on 05/06/2008

Funny how Obama raises all that money despite Bill Clinton being an ex-president. Funny how Hillary can't run a campaign without going bankrupt despite the fact that the Clintons are 10x as rich as the Obamas. Funny how Hillary can't even beat Obama despite the fact that she claims he is unelectable.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:12 PM on 05/06/2008

Guess what?

The racist line has gotten old.

Everyone realizes that Wright and Obama are two different people

two different ideas

two different lives

different views of the world.

It's only people like you who can't let it go. And fortunately, you are NOT "most Americans"

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:41 PM on 05/06/2008

The only question it raises is: Are there really that many stupid people out there? If you think electing someone, who like Bush, doesn't need to listen to experts and lies without blinking day in and day out, then you deserve to live in a country that's getting worse every year.

He has run a stellar campaign and is winning by every metric against Hillary, the favorite to win, who thought she'd have the nomination wrapped up by Super Tuesday. She didn't care about everyone voting back then, including Michigan and Florida. Funny that 88 superdelegates have endorsed Obama since Feb. 5th. Only 13 have endorsed Clinton. (see 5-5-08 msnbc first read delegate update) Hmmm. Interesting since Hillary herself said that the only ones that truly know the candidates are the superdelegates.

Obama has had no campaign staff turnover; no changing of the slogan every couple of months; no loaning money to his own campaign and not paying the bills; no lying about being under sniper fire and insulting our troops who are facing sniper fire everyday; no lying about a gas tax holiday which will do nothing and forgetting to tell people that .05 cents of that .18 cents they'll save was a gas tax her husband put in place as President; no saying that he would obliterate Iran if it attacked Israel with nuclear weapons and failing to mention that Israel has its own nuclear deterrent (about 200 of them); no fear-mongering; no taking the low road and bringing up her baggage, including the $2.3 billion in earmarks she's requested for New York in 2009....

Stop the Drama, Vote Obama!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:54 PM on 05/06/2008

hmmm...yeah...most of the midwest is really a liberal, fringe conspiracy?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:47 PM on 05/06/2008

"And still Clinton wins?" Are you from Bizarro world? This campaign is like Jets-Colts Super Bowl III. The man shouldn't even be on the same field with her, but he came out of nowhere and has cleaned her clock. And what's wrong about Black Liberation? Blacks liberating themselves is racist? Nobody makes a peep abut Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholicism, Anglican Church, etc., but put a black in there and suddenly it's racist? Clinton a "moderate"? Only if "moderate" means "liar." "Electability" regarding Obama means "he's black." What kind of idiot are you? I know--a racist one.

I'm an Obama supporter, but Hllary's ad is far more effective.
NOTHING matters as much as gas prices. Look at every survey.
Hate to say it, but Obama should try the same dumb trick himself (and I don't drive a car - I just want him to win).

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:23 AM on 05/06/2008

It's sad, but I think you're right. Although I also think that "HadEnoughCrap" is also right about losing rather than losing integrity.

Maybe he could have dressed up by taking a swig of beer...nevermind.

The only people who like Hillary's gas plan are people who don't read.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:13 PM on 05/06/2008

I hope Obama would rather lose then to play that game. I would. If pandering and lying is the way to get elected in this country then that's all this country deserves.
The whole process and politics are so dmaged by the Bush, Cheney, Rove machine I'm not sure it will ever recover.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:12 PM on 05/06/2008

That's the great thing about Obama. He doesn't lie to attain his personal goals. He's honest and intelligent and doesn't disrespect the intelligence of the voters.

Hillary can't make that gas tax break happen and even if she could, it would end up costing middle America more in the long run. It's a joke and any informed person knows it.

Whats Wrong With Hil-LIAR-Y Clinton ? Answer : PLENTY !

She refuses to tell You that She Cannot Authorize a Gas Tax Holiday , She Forgets to Mention that the Windfall Tax will be Vetoed by the Chimpanzee currently in Office & She Never mentions that the Oil Companies will just Continue Raising the Price of Gas in Order to make-up the Difference !

Tell Me What Is Wrong With Hil-LIAR-Y , Wasn't She a Democrat ?

You summed it up - she is proposing something that will never be passed and she knows it - in fact, Tim Russert slipped and mentioned that her people are telling the 'elite' press the same this morning. She wants to fight - we know she fights, but what does she get done?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:33 AM on 05/06/2008

She's not fighting for the American people, she's fighting to take down Barack Obama. She wants to make sure he doesn't beat McCain so that she can try again in four years.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:26 PM on 05/06/2008

This childish tit for tat democratic presidential election is crippling the democratic side. Meanwhile, McCain is sitting across town smoking his cigars, patiently waiting to strike when whoever ends victorious - between the democrats- is fatigued beyond recognition. What everybody said would be a landslide democratic victory all of a sudden looks like a tough race between progressive liberals and backward conservatives. It seems like regardless of starting position, the democrats always find a way to botch the elections. We need to think republican in terms of election politics but act democratic in terms of ideology.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:52 AM on 05/06/2008

The problem is that this is not a 2 way race, it's a three way race between conservatives, liberals and the so-called "progressive" fringe. It's Gore/Bush/Nader all over again, only this time, the Nader Herd have bullied and initmidated their way through the caucuses to try and push their fringe candidate inside the dem party.

For crying out loud - prior to the election she was LEADING by over 20 points - if she had momentum she should have won by anything above 20.

Obama came from behind, and despite all Hilary's negativity he still cut her lead by half.

If Obama can't win his own backyard, Indiana, by at least double digits, where the majority of the population are pretty much Chicago suburbanites, he pretty much proves without a shadow of a dou bt that (a) he cannot win primaries, and (b) he cannot win any red states.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:44 AM on 05/06/2008

Ein, look at the Congressional District that comprises much of the west and southwest of IA - uber Republican. And if they are partisan, than they want Hil-Liar-y, for she is THE DEVIL to the right - not justifiably so, but simply so. Though the west and soutwest constituency get Chicago tv they are by no means a typical "own backyard" suburban Chicago constituency. Unless your own backyard is very hostile. And in terms of red states: hell man, look at the states he's won - lotta red, my friend. Lots of it. By your logic, she wouldn't have a prayer in these. Also, primaries? I'm sorry, who has won more primaries (by a virtually 2:1 margin!)? Oh that's right. That would be your man, Obama.

You're a Great American, my friend.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:21 PM on 05/06/2008

Indiana is not his backyard - it is a border state with interesting demographics. He will win in the usual democratic strongholds and she will win in places where dems don't traditionally do as well. That state will be SO red in November, very unlike his home state of IL. The demographics are similar, but Chicago is a more democratic city than Indianapolis and that makes the difference.

Except for the 14 PRIMARIES won by Sen. Obama in South Carolina, Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Utah, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia, Wisconsin, Vermont, and Mississippi. No wait, since HRC didn't win those PRIMARIES, they don't count. Or, is it because primaries held in states that will probably go to Republicans, don't count. No wait, that would mean that HRC can't count her wins in Texas, Okalahoma, Arizona, Tennessee,
This attempt to spin for HRC is really HARD!!!
