PHOENIX — DMX was arrested after speed-enforcement cameras captured him in his bright yellow 1966 Chevrolet going 114 mph on a suburban Phoenix freeway.

The rapper/actor was taken into custody Tuesday at his north Phoenix home without incident, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Wednesday. He posted bond and was released.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was booked on charges of criminal speeding, public endangerment, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

Electronically activated cameras placed along the Loop 101 freeway in Scottsdale captured him three times on Jan. 21 in his Nova II with a large "DMX" decal on the windshield. He was driving at 100, 101 and 114 mph.

The speed limit on the stretch of roadway is 65 mph.

The 37-year-old's lawyer, Murray Richman, said he had no comment.

114? Not bad for a Chevy Nova.

People who are surprised that a Chevy Nova could do 114 don't know much about cars. It's the classic choice for drag racing. Fast, cheap, and easy to work on.

I'll take a '72 Nova over anything Chevy makes these days (for racing, anyways), except maybe a Corvette.

I had a GTO and a Chrysler 300 that would go faster than that. I'm just assuming it wasn't your garden variety 283/2-barrel/powerglide 1966 Nova.

He's actually a really nice guy. Not too bright but a nice guy. I got to say "Have a good one" to him back when I worked at a Best Buy in Paradise Valley here in Phoenix. And the arresting officer told me that DMX showed up to the door in sweats and said "Man, I figured when I put these clothes on this morning - I'd probably be goin to jail today."

I wonder how clueless some of these folks are I don't even live in Phoenix and I heard about this stretch of freeway that is heavily camera-ed, (and I'm sure well signed that it is) for that very reason it' was a spot that lotsa drivers speeded on. I mean really can this guy read?
