Rev. Sharpton: Clinton Doesn't Know The Show Is Over

In an interview on NY1's "Inside City Hall," the Rev. Al Sharpton says Hillary Clinton should drop out of the Democratic presidential race.

"There is no possible scenario that I see without the total destruction of the Democratic Party for Hillary Clinton to become the nominee," Sharpton tells NY1 political anchor Dominic Carter.

"As you know, I've been in the ministry of civil rights all my life, but had dealings with entertainers because of James Brown. The worst thing in the world is when an entertainer doesn't know when the show is over. The audience is gone, the lights are down, you're getting ready to cut the mics off and you are still on the stage singing. It's over, it's all right, it's over. Come sing another day, but this show is over Senator Clinton."

I like how all of these politicians dismiss the rest of the country who have not voted yet. I guess ALL of the American people don't count? You just decide arbitrarily that the race is over? How come we aren't hearing some outrage from these other states?

Oh Al. Pay your 1.5 million in back taxes....then you will be allowed to babble.

No, I think Jessie Jackson Jr. is up there with them in playing the race card after Hillary won NH by saying " I wouldn't put any stock in Hillary's tears, she didn't cry for the victims of Katrina. And they the so called 'neutral' Rep. Clyburn, who came out and said Bill Clinton was using the race card before the SC primary and again before the NC. primary...........he is as dependable as anyone to put race baiting on the Clintons before significant primaries. He has done it again (remember he pretends to be neutral and only interested in the welfare of the Democratic party) by speaking out this week, and per usual before primaries............this time WV, Kentucky, Oregon and Puerto RIco. I guess he feels that if Obama is not wiped out in those states, Obama will win the nomination.
Rep. Clyburn is truly deceptive and phony because he insists he is neutral............neutral my arse, just like Donna Brazille is neutral.. Both of them say they are neutral to make their statements appear more valid.

I have been an Obama supporter since well before he announced his candidacy.
I am beyond elated that he will be our next president.

That said, why does anyone still care what this attention addicted gasbag Sharpton has to say?

Maybe because after a two day news cycle, Sean Bell's brutal murder was going to be just a memory in the minds of America, with the murdrers going unpunished, in this unjust justice system.
Days later, another case of police brutality was caught on film in PA. If not taped, we probably would not even know about it. It happens in urban areas everyday.
People accuse him of grandstanding, but he stands up to speak for those in America whose voice is not heard.
On TV, the NY protests seemed to be majorty black people. It should have been a multiracial, unified voice of outrage. Even his grieving parents were arrested.

Thank you for saying this. I love Rev. Al. Listen to his show everyday, and you are correct. Sean Bell, Genarlow Wilson, and many others would never have been heard of if not for him. He is always on the road, going from place to place, when families call him for help. He rarely gets to spend time with his family or rest his head on his own pillow, and receives frequent death threats, but still goes on. He has his weaknesses as we all do, but he is a blessing.

I live in nyc and will go on the record right now. I will vote for Al Sharpton for Hillary's seat when her term expires. Although I don't often agree with Mr. Sharpton, he has far more integrity. And what they hey, we'll have a half black president by then!!!

Look for the nighttime talk shows, Leno, Letterman, SNL to make her concession speech for her.

LOL Al has the most humorous analogies ..."The audience is gone, the lights are down, you're getting ready to cut the mics off and you are still on the stage singing. It's over, it's all right, it's over. Come sing another day, but this show is over Senator Clinton."

This very racist man ... should take that advice for his own ....... Where in the hell has he been hiding ..... and here he comes !!! Look for Jessie Jackson to be the next with flippant comments..... Forget it we will see McCain president before we see Obama !!!!

I've lived in NY for 10 years. Al is a political poser, but I have to give it to him, he has done a lot for black folks, and I have yet to hear any white person here call him racist.
He hasn't been hiding, he was busy leading a peaceful Civil Rights protest blocking traffic from the boroughs to Manhattan, to protest the whole Sean Bell NYPD and justice debacle.

What evidence do you have that he's racist? Many called MLK racist too, while he was living. Their reasons? Because he fought for the rights of those who were oppressed and discriminated against. I suspect that is your basis as well.

Please Hillary.... your concession speech can't possibly be as humiliating as it was for Al Gore when the election was stolen from him in 2000 with a 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court. Why are you holding out. Could it be for more of the "root of all evil."

I think Lawrence O'Donnell gave an insightful interview on how Hillary Clinton was staying in to make sure the final states had a say--and the massive new voter registration is a good thing for Democrats from the local to the national levels--and to aid in the positive transition of her supporters to Obama. This is why calls for her to quit aren't coming from the Obama camp despite how noisy some of his surrogates (Dodd comes to mind) have been in the past. It's an interesting analysis. Some pundits, however, have consistently underestimated the passionate commitment of her supporters, so we'll see...probably in November.

KMKY:

Obama has just begun a mass voter registration drive in all fifty states so he doesn't need her to help him with that.

Also how does her staying in the race and saying the clearly racial remarks she made yesterday help Obama or the Democratic party? Your "we'll see in November" remark sounds like the rest of the rabid Hillbots who say they will never vote for Obama.

While she wants to play the race card saying he can't get the white vote, she clearly is showing that she is not staying in merely to let the last states have their say . You would have to be a complete idiot not to see that she is only further trying to divide the Democratic party. She seems to want to forget that no Democrat will ever win the White house without the black vote.

If she and hubby had not run such a racist campaign, and had she been the winner fair and square then I know that she would have gotten the African American vote, but instead she has lost them forever, so if her plan is to damage Obama enough that he loses and she can run again in 2012 it shows what a total psycho she is, to believe she would get their vote ever again now.

She has not only damaged Obama and the Democratic party, but herself as well. She would never be taken seriously as a candidate again.

I think it's funny that Obama can't get the public support of a prominent black leader for fear of white America associating the two.

Sad but true. Whites get upset at Sharpton for pointing out white racism, so they see him as an "agitator" as if blacks should be quite happy having their civil rights violated. Same psychology with Wright.

I think the superdelegates don't want to make the final states irrelevant. I understand why they are holding back, because they don't want anyone to claim to be "disenfranchised". I predict a landslide of superdelegates on June 4th.

I think you are right. The DNC is already on notice for their abyssmal failure to come to some agreement over Michigan and Florida. And with increased voter turnout in every state, why not get the same results in these final states as well? It'll make the job easier for grass-roots efforts to get local and state level Democrats elected if the DNC has shown an interest in these states at the national level.

I sincerely hope it works out that way and only if Bill and HRC will not make matters worse by injecting racial divide within the Democratic party by their utterances. As an independent waiting to vote Democratic in the general, I am beginning to be frustrated with the current racial intones rearing its ugly head in the party. I have voted for white Democratic candidates without any reservations in the past but after this election, with what the Clintons and their supporters have injected into this race, IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:51 AM on 05/09/2008

It reads to me like you are the person injecting race as an issue but honestly, most democrats have already voted for Black candidates in their local elections. There still is a racial issue but it's very difficult to define because most people will not willingly label themselves as racist even if they are. America is schizo when it comes to racism. This melting pot we live in is an unnatural construction, we haven't learned how to control ourselves, yet.

There are superdelegates, who are elected officials from districts that went for 70% (Hillary) to 30% (for Obama) as many districts in NC, Indiana, OH, PA and even in VA, where Obama won.

For those delegates, the "will of the people" whom they represent is Hillary not Obama. I'm sure those delegates are not very anxious to cross their constituents.

Once the SDs commit to a candidate they are no longer the center of attention. That's the only reason they haven't committed yet. It has nothing to do with Hillary or Obama, it's all about the attention and the gifts and the trips. They love it, you would too. Why should they give it up any sooner than they need to?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:31 AM on 05/09/2008

SUPERDELEGATES QUIT COVERING YOUR BEHIND AND VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:25 AM on 05/09/2008

Even in NC, where Obama won by a large margin, there are districts that went for Hillary by even larger margins. For example, in Ashe County, NC, the voters went for Hillary by a margy of 75% to 22% for Obama. Avery County , NC, the voters went for Hillary 62% to 36% for Obama. That's the story in many districts in all states, even in the states won by Obama.

You have to assume that a superdelegate, who is an elected official from such a district is not really anxious to come out for Obama. For such superdelegates, the will of their constituents is not Obama but Hillary.

Just look at Mass. Hillary won the state; so one would think that Gov. Duval, Sens Kerry and Kennedy would go to Hillary, and other Reps in districts she won... If you carried out the Obama campaign, the Obama supporting MSM, and Obama supporting SDs that the
will of the people should should be honored, then Govs and Senators of the states Hillary won plus the congressional districts in those states that Hillary won should pledge to her to honor the will of the people. That means Ca, NJ, NM, Mi, Fl, etc Govs and Senators should pledge to Hillary................if you are following the will of the people. Unfortunately, Obama's campaign and the MSM select the rules that benefit Obama and dismiss the rules that don't. Same old politics while pretending to bring a new politics to DC...........Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Obama, if he gets the nomination is going to owe a lot of people. Forget all the blacks and the small contributors, he is going to owe corporations and political hacks...........BIG time. Just look at the oil industries that bundled support for him because it is illegal for corps to donate...........

LOL if they did that they would vote for Hilary Clinton ...... This is the beginning of some big issues this country will face ....

I'm not so sure about that. I tend to think they are reluctant only because they owe favors to the Clintons.
