Okay, I just listened again - AND IT'S WORSE THE SECOND TIME! LOSE THE WHINER!
I voted for this one, among two or three others I liked. One bad thing though - ditch the wimpy little college-boy voice at the end! It RUINS the effectiveness of the piece. It's like the perennial fast-food worker teen from The Simpsons saying "You want fries with that?" WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!? Why can't they get James Earl Jones!
I'm not joking. They have to lose that voice. It's whiny and high-pitched and effete and it screams LIBERAL WIMP! They need a deep, resonant, strong voice. This is just simple Advertising 101 - how stupid can MoveOn be?
Is this a plea for bipartisanship? Sure sounds like it to me. I am no longer interested in appeasing any entity that has any lingering affection for Bush/Cheney and their criminal proclivities. Bush/Cheney and their enablers are killing this nation. Throw them under the bus.
I think one of the strength of this ad over some others - is that it has a career military man in it. McCain's biggest claim in this whole election is his "war hero" status - and yet, he refused to support the Webb GI bill. The impression is out there that the military voters would automatically support McCain based on his past service, and yet it is Obama who is speaking out more for services for returning veterans-mental health services, medical services, educational services.
I agree. The guy LOOKS LIKE the typical Hillary stereotype voter, unpretentious, down to earth, beer-guzzling, gun-toting, confederate flag-waving, pick-up truck driving, tattoo-wearing, no-nonsense, hard-working American, white person. I wouldn't get tired of watching or hearing the ad over and over. I take pride in his medals each time I see them. Love the voice. Love the sincerity. Love the message.
I think this was a good choice. I watched and voted for hundreds of the entries - and was so impressed by all the people submitting entries. There is an amazing pool of talent out there! There were some others that I really loved and hope that they are able to be seen again. But I agree with the people who ultimately decided that this ad covered a lot of the points for Obama. Congratulations. To the ads that didn't win - I want to tell you that your messages well so inspiring, and really encouraging. You should all be proud of yourselves.
Strong ad undermined by the anemic and unprofessional voice over tag.
Would be better as part of a series. Seems a bit thin if the goal is to get some Independents to vote for Obama since it's thin on persuasion.
I liked it when I saw it earlier. I still like it a lot. It has a personal feel and it isn't sentimental unlike some of the others
I like all the ads, to be honest with y'all. I know many conservatives who will vote for Obama because I've signed up a bunch of them. They are more pissed off at the Republicans than I am. I find it hard to believe the MSM is saying the election could hinge on West Virginia. I just don't think Americans are that stupid to buy it any more. I guess they're trying to prolong the drama to sell ad time.
What a lame ad. It said nothing about any of the issues, and gave absolutely NO reason to vote for Obama. You could substitute any other candidate's name for Obama's, and what that guy said would be as strong of an argument to vote for them.
Why can't MoveOn come up with something that condenses a little SUBSTANCE into 30 seconds?
Yeah... I wasn't keen on a lot of the ads for the same reason. Take out Obama's name and insert any name whatsoever. No one would know the difference.
As I've said elsewhere, I like the Lincoln ad a great deal. It doesn't necessarily get at the issues, but it does defuse the biggest attack that has been and will be brought against Obama. That ad would be a field leveler so that the debate could be about issues.
Because, unfortunately, most people aren't as issues oriented as those who frequent HuffPo. They go on their gut feelings. A few may consider the candidate's stand on one or two big issues (e.g., war, taxes) and if that's OK they go with their feelings. They want to feel comfortable with their choice.
Agreed.
The winning Obama in 30 seconds ad was done by David Law and Lance Mungia and entitled "Obamacan."
My favorite was the following:

This ad is harder hitting and a little more edgy. For the Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Texas voters.
I think that one was better, but too many compliments for the republicans......they haven't made anyone safer only fanned the flames of anti-americanism and send young men to their death for a war that has nothing to do with terrorism and everything to do with a drilling contract. .
Eh... doesn't look genuine. Too scripted.
I like that one too. There were several extremely good ones - its too bad that they can't have several different ads run.
Powerful, straight-forward. No attack. I like it! (I'm curious, who is this guy and will he be available for comment, when the MSM wants to interview him? And others like him?!)
This was my pick http://obamain30seconds.org/pc/?ad_id=620 -- but again the one that was chosen has more bang for the buck.
Wasn't the one I had hoped for but then I'm already a supporter. This is an effect ad when you think it's a two-fer, a reminder of the Iraq war which is being over shadowed by the economy and a wink to disenchanted republicans.
It could be tweaked a wee bit but overall I think it's powerful.
Great ad. Works just the way it should. Obama can unite this country, forge a new coalition. This is just what we need.
J
Who needs to advertize toay........look outside your window, look at your bills, look at your wages, look at the poverty. If you don't think we need change, your to blind to see what reality is. Enough said.
i wasn't too impressed until i realised that the ad is not targeted at me, or you, or most people in america still possessed of the ability to reason ---
There you go. It's for the ones who don't get it and vote against their economic interest.
GREAT AD. Period.
This ad is better:

Yes, i think that one is much more powerful....especially since Lincoln was a Republican...(a TRUE Republican by the way).
That was my pick by far. it disarms the only argument they have against him and it's clever. And, it's an ad people would remember.
The one that got the nod is all right, but no one will remember it. If it was a guy who had gotten injured in Iraq or someone whose life was turned upside down by it, then I could see the ad being memorable. Otherwise, the ad that got picked is not particularly effective or original. There will be any number of versions of the exact same ad saying the opposite thing.
Yup, and what irony that they are both from Illinois.
And don't forget, Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN. No doubt that the Republican party was a much different animal back then, but Republicans like to bring up Lincoln all the time, because they have to go back to the Civil War to find a great Republican president.
It would be hard for them to have a rebuttal to this ad because it would then sort of rob them of one of the few truly great Republican heroes in history.
My favorite too, but the one they picked was a very close second. It should be very effective.
Only problem is it's effectiveness is totally pinned on the guy not changing his mind and switching his support to McCain. While that wouldn't become a HUGE story, it would get a lot of airtime and probably wipe out any good the ad did.
Of course, it's hard to understand why anyone would switch to McCain, but a lifelong Republican just might before this is over.
I LOVE this ad too!
Agreed; that's an amazingly powerful ad.
I agree, very good ad. Ironically, it was the founding of the Republican party.
Ok, I'll send $25 so they can run both.
Out of the finalists, that was my favorite one too.
Mystery954.....I love that ad also.....I watched the one with the kids in red and blue shirts and got misty eyed....
I had my hopes for the one with the little girl watching the broken pieces form a world and it being placed in her hand by an arm that appears to be Sen .Obama's hand. Gave me chills. Oh well this is an excellent one as well - and as someone said above it's not to target his all ready supporters but disenchanted republicans.
The broken world ad was my favorite, too. However, bringing open-minded republicans into the fold is more important electorally.
I agree -- great ad.
This is THE ad. I believe he will be able to win over some of the more honest, decent ones among "those people" for sure with this ad. Simple. Forceful. Direct. Nothing there to question.
I just contributed my little sum. Hope MoveOn can collect the millions it needs to promote their ads soon - especially in W Va and Ky.
