Sue Simmons

In a teaser for the 11pm news during the season finale of "Medium" Monday night, viewers of New York's WNBC were treated to the following outburst from local news anchor Sue Simmons: "At eleven, paying more at the grocer but getting less. We'll tell you how to get the most. What the fuck are you doing?"

Watch below:

Sue from News 4 Cursing

Sue Simmons apologized for cursing on air in a web post after her broadcast:

We need to acknowledge an unfortunate mistake that I made in one of the teases we bring to you before this program.

While we were live just after 10 p.m., I said a word that many people find offensive.

I am truly sorry. It was a mistake on my part and I sincerely apologize.

I, personally, prefer the profanity over the inanity of the news. Bring it on, Sue Simmons!

I smelled a rat last Saturday/Sunday morning with the BillO video (that was nearly 20 yrs old). I suspected that the HuffPo spin doctors were up to something. Turns out that I believe it was to blunt the wave of catcalls for this on air blunder from the NBC anchor.

Who cares. Impeach Bush.

Like a journalist accidentally going off like a sailor on a live mike is news?

Good Lord, I remember Linda Ellerbee going off on some intern one night in a rant on the original Headline News Channel (pre CNN-HN) that would do a drill sargeant proud.

As a sailor who'd made an art form out of stringing f-bomb-punctuated epithets to describe my supervisors and my ship's CO, even I was impressed.

This is amatuer stuff.

If Dick Cheney can tell a fellow Senator to go fuck himself in the hallowed Chambers of the Senate and if any 8-year-old can go to You-Tube and watch video of Bush shooting the finger at the camera, and if John McCain can call his wife a cunt in front of reporters, why is anyone wigged out by a local newsperson saying the word "fuck"?

Give me a fucking break.

Sue is one of the best newscasters in the NYC area and I've been watching her for years. In the words of that Britney guy.....LEAVE SUE ALOOOONE!!!

Actually Sue's always been kind of surrealistic for an anchor. Not taking the whole thing seriously at all - save for her wonderful, annual groundhog imitation. Doesn't matter. Wish her another 28 years on the air, at least - at which point she'll still look better than anchors half her age. She's not a legend, she's a goddess.

Looks like she uses her face to stop cars.

Why are comments open for this but closed for Bill O'Reilly??
07:02 PM on 05/15/2008
O'reilly incident was 13 years ago and he was not a new anchor. He was a reporter on a tabloid show...BIG DIFFERENCE.

Oh, and his was not on LIVE television either...

I once heard live parrot in a taxidermy shop say, "Quit that shit!" The taxidermist apologized, saying that the parrot had learned it from him. Anybody over the age of consent who has not heard the "F" phrase must have been living in a cave in Outer Mongolia. But she was right to apologize because the public airwaves are there for those under the age of consent, as well. It's done. It's over. End of story.

So McCain can call his wife a cunt in public and tell her to shut up, and nobody minds that. But Sue Simmons drops a fuckword (and I thought she sounded more amused than pissed off) and the heavens fall. Sometimes "Fuck:" is the only possible response to a situation...

I'll say this: If you're going to fire off the F-bomb, that's the way to do it.

Tell the truth...the way she ripped that off, your first thought was "what ARE they doing?"

Don't you think you (Huffington) have beaten this story to death...enough from people who behave as if they never make a mistake...whose the stuipd editor who keeps pushing this story?

It wasn't in the middle of a news broadcast, it was a teaser for the news. Sue Simmons has been a great anchor for over 25 years. I'm sure she'f have no problem paying the fine and I'm sure she was sorry the word slipped out. It happens. I guess someone in the tape room screwed up and she didn't realize her mic was going out live.

Ms. Simmons is trying to lead a live newscast in the biggest media market in the US.

Something frustrates or distrubs her off camera in this pressure-packed environment where every second counts, right in the middle of the broadcast.

She uses a bad word.

She apologizes a few minutes later.

So what's the big deal?

If it was a man and heaven forbid, a moderate or conservative, everybody would be calling for his firing. But she's a woman and liberal so its seen as no big deal.
11:04 AM on 05/14/2008
oh, please. it was no big deal, and it was pretty funny. get over it.

It's happened to male anchors before. They use to show bloopers all the time on Dick Clarks Bloopers and Practical jokes show. These people are human, sh*t happens. :D

JJK thanks for pointing this out. It no doubt explains the "O'Reilly Vintage Meltdown" too. No big deal. Unfortunate that Sue's was broadcast on the air. She's a great news anchor, and I have alway's enjoyed watching her.
