Rape Victim Goes On YouTube To Ask For Help (VIDEO)

CNN reports on the wrenching video of a crying 16-year-old girl who turned to YouTube to plead for help in prosecuting her alleged 23-year-old rapist.

The teen, whom CNN interviewed but is not identifying by her last name, is among dozens of young people who are turning to social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace to talk about sexual assault.

For an online generation, the Web offers what traditional counseling does not. It's a chance to communicate without having to face someone or fear their judgment. Some people are seeking legal advice and medical information, and many younger victims believe they can warn others about their accused attacker, counselors say.

The girl says she was told by the lawyers to "go find other rape victims" -- and that kind of brush off sounds TYPICAL! They sure as hell aren't gonna investigate it -- routine rapes just aren't worth the man hours.

I have total faith that something horrible happen to this girl and the lawyers all concluded she's a "poor slut" and refused to investigate a damn thing because, c'mon, why should they waste all the money. In their mind the guy was going to jail for other crimes so, nope, they aren't gonna waste any time on the rape portion. So I'm sure they're confused as to why she's upset. In their mind justice was done -- so what if he doesn't go to jail for rape and so what if she never gets to face her attacker in court? That's how these people think.

She was raped and the bored DA decided it was too much trouble to go for a rape conviction so they blew her off.

Hell no they didn't think it was worth the time, money or detective man hours to invesigate a routine rape.

If the case goes to trial, the defense will use this video to try to discredit the complainant. I advise anyone in a similar situation not to make such a recording.

Judging this in a light most favorable to the man, he is still seven + years older than this girl and had sexual contact with her when she was below the age of consent. From the CNN article, I understand he is being prosecuted for lewd and lascivious contact. He had no business putting his hands on her, and prosecution is warranted. I'd give him jail time and sexual offender status.

This girl needs some parenting and counseling, and get the computer out of the bedroom.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of this. Might be real, might be a staged recitation of a real event, might be lying for some reason, might be an outright hoax, I just can't say. Not enough information.

Most local district attorneys have a private complaint process for people to use when the DA will not file charges. I suggest she explore that process.

At some point, she says she resisted.
The guy says otherwise.
Court should figure it out.

That is legal in most states. 16 is the age of consent regardless of the age of the other. Only 12 states are older than 16. Many states the law is 16 as long as the older person is a person in authority, foster parent, step parent, teacher, police officer, boss, ect.

in my state (PA), it's 16 is the age of consent but only with someone up to 4 years older than you are, until you hit 18

so 16 +4 = 20
17+4= 21
18= anyone

That's one hell raiser... her tears look fake, but if she's underage and the guy an adult, he definitely ought to get his @$$ hauled downtown for a while, regardless of whether she's kicking a fuss or not, he should know better. She definitely look like a kid.
I feel for the girl, but I'm reserved about this. I've dated a drama queens, and I had to attend teary scenes over stuff that wasn't worth it, I've seen more nastiness of thought than anything else.

Well put Pleidian. I am surrounded my those who believe in the modern superstitions. However, my parents never depended on religion to keep my dating habits rather sedate by today's standards. I think it is asking too much for the courts to get involved in personal relations. The courts would do well just to enforce restraining orders effectively, which is what that girl needs now if she is so frightened. Also when I was in high school and college decades ago, the FAST GUYS were well known on the feminine grape vine. Has that disappeared? Maybe it has. A really fast guy came after me in church a couple years ago and no one said a thing until I started asking around. Then they fessed up. Meanwhile everyone just watched that predator without saying a thing. I have noticed a general lack of community in my suburb. I guess we are all isolated in our cars and when we get home we watch TV instead of interacting.

No matter what, she needs help. What kind I am not sure. Maybe because she looks so much like Drew Barrymore people think she is acting. The computer and camera may not be hers, it does nothing to disprove her that she is on good equipment. If she is telling the truth I just hope she gets the help she needs, if this is a prank it does a terrible disservice to young girls who are really going through this type of situation. But I would give her the benifit of the doubt for now, more women have been raped than have lied about it.
