Afghan Base

New York Times:

The Pentagon is moving forward with plans to build a new, 40-acre detention complex on the main American military base in Afghanistan, officials said, in a stark acknowledgment that the United States is likely to continue to hold prisoners overseas for years to come.

The proposed detention center would replace the cavernous, makeshift American prison on the Bagram military base north of Kabul, which is now typically packed with about 630 prisoners, compared with the 270 held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

The construction of a new prison is only further proof this is an OCCUPATION, not a war. No one has ever "won" an occupation. Ask the British.

Nations don't "go" to war. They are dragged into war by their "leaders". Nations don't build prisons in foreign countries, they pay for the prisons their "leaders" decide to build. At some point, nations need to declare war on their "leaders" and put THEM in prison.

And here is more relating to the "great progress" being realized in the Mid-East Campaign for the Oil being touted by The Puppet, de jure president, and Chickenhawk Cheney, de facto president and puppeteer:

Building new prisons gives the impression that all we know how to do is fight wars and put people into prison. The only major country without universal health care, college education available only to the wealthiest, and the highest percentage of citizens behind bars of any major country. What is wrong with this picture?

I heard a shocking statistic the other day. One out of every hundred Americans are behind bars. WTF?

With privatizing the prisons and making it a big business expect this to grow. Our corporate beasts must be fed at all cost!

If America has the funds to pay for this, don't you think that the money would be better
spent on weaning farmers off the growing of poppy fields, which are killing so many
of the citizens around the globe. I remember a documentary last year where the reason
for the increase in growing of opium, was discussed. It seems that many countries which
promised aid to Afghanistan at the beginning of the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban,
still have not payed the promised amount. Afghanistan is a poor country and can't afford
to offer these poor farmers an alternative for their opium producing crops. I thought
after all the years of war this country had endured, that finally there would be a real
chance of international help. What a drag being an optimist these days, where promises
are blown away in fickle gusts of wind.

I really have not taken much interest in the government of America until about a year
ago, I had my own problems in another country but if this is the case, then there have
been both Republican and Democratic Presidents in the WH. Who is responsible for
the actions of the CIA?
Links please, and not just some conspiracy site please. Are you talking about a few
"rogue" members or government sponsored.

Government sponsored, how do you think the Taliban and Al Queda paid for the munitions? Same way the Columbians do, give Uncle Sam the drugs. Your DEA isn't trying to stop drugs, it's trying to control who moves them.

Stalin called them "gulags."

Now comes the question: what do you really want -your- United States of America to be?

If "impeachment is off the table (because I said so)," this is what you get: this, and infinitely worse.

"By their fruits shall ye know them." It's a Biblical adage but also a good litmus-test of human nature. Here are the fruits; now you know.

"Those who live by the sword shall die by it," another Biblical adage and also true. But what does history tell us happens to the nations led by such tyranny? For these men and women ARE tyrants.

One of our predecessors thundered, "Forbid it, almighty God!"

I like that.
